Hey guys I am Malkavian and this is my Rammus Guide for Top Lane and Jungle.

If you are planning to play Rammus please check out jungle routes first.

General Jungle Guide

Terms you might see while reading my guide:

AS: Attack Speed

This guide is for jungling. First of all you have 2 choice to begin with. Blue side or Red Side. Each side has several benefits so I will try to explain as much as I can.

1- Blue Side Start: Route should be Gromp-> Blue Golems->Wolves->Gank mid/top -> If you have enough HP go get red (if your enemy has a jungler who can steal your red)

Benefits: It allows you to get Gromp buff which means faster jungle clearance for tanky junglers ( ie. Rammus,Zac) It allows you to get blue buff which means free ganks and more skill spam. Especially good for Evelyn, Amumu, Diana, Fiddlesticks since they need blue buff more than anything in jungle

Down Sides: Makes you lose HP more, you cant kill crab that easy (he is slippery and fast :) ) ganks will be weak without red buff, bad for sustain, makes you lose extra pot if you are not using a Lifesteal/shield champion

2- Red Side Start: I personally try to start from red side no matter what.
Route Golems(smite)->Birds (kill small ones first)->Crab (for sustain/cooldowns)->Red Buff (smite)->gank mid/bot lane

Benefits: With golem start you get stun buff for every 5 attacks which is great for AS junglers. After you get red buff ganks will be easier and easier to force your enemies to flash. Red Side Start allows you to punish early agressive enemy bot laners (almost none of them wards river in first 4 mins)

Down Sides: If you are mana based champion like Fiddlesticks you have to return base, If you have no aoe damage it takes slightly more time than clearing Blue side jungle.

How to be a Better Jungler:

As a jungler your most important job is being awere of map! Means you gotta keep track of enemy cooldowns (flash/ulti/TP) You gotta know when Dragon/Baron Spawns ( Easy with new patch you always see the cooldown but you gotta remind your teammates when Dragon or Baron will spawn cause they are busy with dealing farming/enemy harrass/ jungler ganks)

Always ping as soon as you decided to gank a lane. If you pinged a lane to gank dont try to abandon it unless you see a good opportunitiy.

Always buy pink ward and place it between top and mid. (yes that is yoru job!) So your top and mid laner might save themselves from 1-2 enemy jungler ganks which is good for you. Enemy jungler will lose time and buy sweeper (if you want to Counter Jungle) Always try to smite Birds for the vision buff and clear the wards around the map

Always choose a jungle path which gives you gank opportunities faster. For example: If you feel like enemy top laner will push ( Riven, Irelia, Vlad always pushes lanes :) ) then start with wolves go for gromp then take blue and you can good to gank top lane when it is pushed. But if you start gromp then go blue then you try to kill wolves you lose time to walk back to top lane.

Be efficient with you time. Do not waste time walking mid lane if your mid lane is pushed. Go farm mobs when all lanes are pushed. Also ganking top lane is always tricky after lvl 6 , DO not camp top unless you see neemy jungler close to their top lane, cause if you camp top enemy jungler can easily take drag.

Try to help lanes that has disadvantage in lane (Irelia vs Ryze/Vlad) ranged vs melee match ups are tough. So help your poor Irelia :) Dont forget that your team as strong as your weakest lane.

General Top Lane Guide

As a top laner your main goal is to win your lane / destroy your opponents turret and maintaining map control.

To do that you need to pick Teleport. I know some top laners like Renek/Fiora/Trynd/Riven players starts with ignite. That is WRONG! It is more like saying ' Hey guys I am gonna play to win my lane and you guys will be 4v5 in all mid/late game teamfights!' ' Ah btw also if I split push and if tf starts I can be there aproximately 1 min after tf starts!' 'Ah btw if enemy top laner has tp and if he is smart and if he split push i need to go over there to face him but if he tp to teamfight when i jsut get there gg wp enemy team will win.'

SO as a toplaner stop being selfish and pick TELEPORT (If you are not againist swain or vlad etc. But in that situation ask your midlaner to take tp.)

If you are not losing your lane hard. Do not use your Teleport to get into your lane all the time. You can use the first TP cooldown to get back in lane but use rest to get some objectives. It is just as bad as picking another summoner if you use Teleport to get back in lane all the time. Stop being selfish and use your abilities and resources to help teammates.

To play top lane you need be expert about champions. Not just all the top lane champions you need to know about junglers too. If you lack knowledge about your opponents skillset you will lose 1v1 most likely. Without knowing when you can deal spike damage and when you should deal damage do not play a solo lane. It is important to know which champion has advantage on what level.

For example Renekton is weak in 1-2 levels, Akali q+aa have insane 1st level damage, Riven has the most dmg output in lvl 1 with his q and aa combo, Vlad is a strong champion but in level 1-2 you can outdps a Vlad easily, Garen is good at level 2 and he doesnt use mana so be careful and dont let him liferegen so attack him once in a while to not proc his hp regen, Maokai is strong in every 5th spell etc.

So without knowing your enemy skillset and when your enemy can win trades do not play 1v1 lanes.

What you should do as a TOP LANER?

-Always try to be first in lane and kill first 2-3 melee mobs earlier than your opponent without taking damage.
-If you manage to kill enemy melee minions always trade with your enemy since your minions can deal more than you in 1st level.
-After using your omba fall back to lsoe enemy minion aggro. Minions deal tons of damage in first 1-3 level range so mind them.
-Always ward your river bush in 3-4 min mark. Most of the junglers gank top lane first when their jungle rotation is done. Depending on the champion they gank mostly in 3:30 min
-If you feel like losing trades, give up on some mobs stay close enough to get exp and farm under your turret.
-Btw learn how to farm under turret if you cant do it! (If you lose more than 2 minions under your turret that means you need training)
-Always build items to counter your opponents. If enemy has ad champs build armor if enemy has ap top laner build Magic resist.
-Keep an eye on bot lane side after lvl 6 and if your teammates deep wards bot lane ( means the wards on their lane side bush which is perfect for tp) always seek for gank opportunities ( if you enemies pushing lane and if they pass the deep ward)
-Try to be close to objectives. If you jungler pings rift herald be there.
-Do not leave your lane without pushing it. Top lane is a long lane so if you push lane and recall you can get back to lane without losing mobs to your turret.
-Do not push your lane unless you are very confident about dodging skills. Focus point of most junglers are top and mid lane.
-Try to kill crab in river to maintain more vision in your spare time.
-If you are sure enemy jungler is nor near and if your enemy leaves lane try to farm even the packs on your enemies 2nd turret (Proxy farm)
-In first 10 min build to win your lane but after that try to analyse enemy team and prepare yourself to teamfights. For example if your enemy is Vlad and if you already killed him 2-3 times. And if you game has a 4 kill Lucian on enemy team. Stop building MR items and build armor/hp items instead. See the bigger picture and win the game.
-If match is goin easy for you and if you think you can win trades easily on 1v1 When you see enemy jungler in bot lane without a red buff on him. Go for his jungle and try to steal red buff
-Always change your yellow trinket with the blue one after level 9. It gives more vision range and you can spam it as long as wards not seen. It is OP trust me.

Itemization is the most important part of playing Rammus. So lets talk about it. Rammus gets great damage output by building armor and some ap. As we all know stacking armor on Rammus is very useful since he gets attack damage by his armor. His w also scaling with armor. But most ppl dont know that Rammus (Q) skill and (R) skill scales with ap. This is why i use Rylai in my build. Rylai gives you 5 man cc with your ultimate and since you slow them you can fully dps them with your ultimate. Do not underestimate the Rylai+Ultimate damage. :)

Sheen Most people dont even bother building this on Rammus but it gives great damage output also you can combine it with your shield (which resets your auto attack) so you can deal 3x damage in 1 second.

Boots of Swiftness Another underrated item. IF you are playing a champion which has slow this item gives you great advantage with green enchantment or red enchantment on it.

Spirit Visage Gives Rammus magic resist that he needs. We are already using scaling runes but this item also gives sustain (health regen) and synergises with mastery tree.

Dead Man's Plate Rammus (Q) skill makes him go faster in seconds and Dead Man's gets stacks by moving. No need to talk further :)

Iceborn Gauntlet Rammus got knock back and taunt why dont you add him a bit of slow too?

Liandry's Torment We all know that Liandry deals % dmg to your targets and it doubles damage to cced targets. Guess what you have CC! So use this item and enjoy the double % damage while you are using your ordinary combo and your ultimate

Sterak's Gage I personally prefer this item because it gives great amount of hp and when you take critical damage you get extra shield that baits enemies most of the times. Imo this is one of the best items for tank champions.

Sunfire Cape Gives you better farm opportunity in top lane. Use this item if your opponent is heavy ad champion. Rammus struggles while farming in early game. With this item you dont worry about farming that much. Just proxy all the time with your (W)

Thornmail If enemy team has a fed adc, master freaking yi , trynd em all, zed, yasuo etc just build this item and cc the f out of them. If your hp/armor eneough you can watch em die by just hitting you :)

Skill Sequence

If you are fast enough jsut walk up to your enemies and (W)+(E) them and start auto attacking while your (R) is on and aa as much as you can. When enemy starts to run away use your q and hit em more.

If you are not fast enough use your (Q) first careful to not hit any mobs etc and when you contact with enemy (W)+(E)+(R) and start auto attacking.

In teamfights enemy team will be guarding their adc and before you reach their adc you have many champions that can ruin your (Q) so You can use (Q)+Flash+(W)+(E) combo to reach adc better. Tauntin adc with flas totally worths and gives no chance to enemy team than focusing you. Which is exactly the teamfight you want.

Rammus gains additional damage as his shell becomes reinforced, converting 25% of his Armor into Attack Damage.

Cost: 60/65/70/75/80 Mana
Range: 300
Rammus accelerates in a ball towards his enemies, dealing damage and slowing targets affected by the impact.
Rammus accelerates in a ball over 7 seconds towards his enemies, dealing 100/150/200/250/300 (+100% Ability Power) magic damage to nearby enemies on impact, knocking them back, and slowing them by 20/25/30/35/40% for 2 seconds.Activating Defensive Ball Curl will remove this effect after 1 second.

Defensive Ball Curl
Cost: 40 Mana
Range: 300
Rammus goes into a defensive formation, vastly increasing his Armor and Magic Resist, while returning damage to attacks.
Rammus goes into a defensive formation for 6 seconds, increasing his Armor and Magic Resist by 40/60/80/100/120 and returning 25/35/45/55/65 (+10% Armor) magic damage to attackers.This ability gains damage equal to 10% of Armor.Activating Powerball will remove this effect after 1 second.

Puncturing Taunt
Cost: 50 Mana
Range: 325
Rammus taunts an enemy champion or monster into a reckless assault against Rammus' hard shell, reducing Armor temporarily.
Rammus taunts the enemy champion or monster into a reckless assault, reducing their Armor by 5/10/15/20/25 and forcing them to attack Rammus for 1.25/1.5/1.75/2/2.25 second(s).

Cost: 100 Mana
Range: 375
Rammus creates waves of destruction pulsing through the ground, causing damage to units and structures near him.
Rammus creates tremors beneath him, dealing 65/130/195 (+30% Ability Power) magic damage every second to nearby units and structures for 8 seconds.

Creeping / Jungling

So Rammus jungling route is actually pretty simple. I personally always start with the buff closest to my bottom lane for a better leash and protection from invades plus I like working my way up to top lane for a level 3 gank. One important thing that you need to know when jungling in general is that most top laners don't buy early wards, so it's normally an easy lane to gank. With that in mind, this is something that experienced junglers know so it's always good to go there anyway to countergank as well. So route is : bottom buff -> top buff -> gank. That's basically all you need to know when it comes to his route.

Ganking Tips:

If you enemy is not a gap closer jsut walk to him and hit it with your aa with red buff then use your taunt and shield and when he tries to run with flash or by running use your q. dont waste your gap closing ability at start.
