JHIN [11.13] - STOP USING GALEFORCE

By Boast
Eclipse > Galeforce
For those who care, I will explain here why Eclipse is a better choice in most situations moving forward.

Background

In the particular state of LoL, especially in higher ELO, we are seeing some of the fastest kill timers in the history of the game. This means that players will require an intense amount of practice to get used to this, especially if you are a dynamic League player or returning player.

Reasons?

This game state is generally seen as unhealthy and balance teams are frequently changing damage numbers and ratios to help slow down the game. The increased pace to the game state has left ADC in a weird spot where they are either pushing steady DPS or just dead within the first 0.0512896734 milliseconds of every skirmish. Galeforce has 100% helped the role with survivability and the ability to gap close or provide extra damage. The biggest issue with this item is the lack of damage you are setting yourself up with when you build it. When new items are introduced, the "WOW" factor is still present which means that the smaller details are usually neglected. We are 3 months into the season and we have been playing with these items for about 5 months if you count preseason and PBE testing. Many changes have gone through but the same outcome has persisted. Galeforce is really strong, some might say too strong. It has even reached the point where other champs outside the marksman role have started building it. ( Yasuo, Yone, and junglers like Graves or Kindred) This is totally fine, but it just adds to the fact the item is really strong. Now moving forward with the finite details, we cant expect the item to stay this strong forever and there is already a way to build other items to increase DPS. Also, Galeforce does provide some mobility and can be used VS some comps but if you are looking to do the most damage, opt into building Eclipse.

Mechanics

Most players are confident with their mechanics but when playing ADC, positioning becomes your best and only friend. One small misstep and it's over and you are left with a grey screen and 7 "?" pings over your dead body. If you find yourself in this position, do not take Eclipse, start thinking about where you are pathing, what summs you have, and what kill threats are in the game. Constantly assess your situation until you know what you can and can't do. This comes with practice and a lot of deaths. Galeforce provides you with that small dash if you ever find yourself in a weird spot or for when you gotta get outta the way from a full tank Malphite that will still one-shot you if his ult lands. Not to mention the 2% movement speed for every Legendary item built. This will lead me to my main argument. When buying Galeforce, and assuming you are playing a normal lengthed game, you will probably only reach Mythic + 3 Legendary items before the game is over. (+6% Movement Speed). As mentioned in the build paths, Jhin is unique to where he can opt into buying boots early and usually turns those boots into Boots of Swiftness. These give +15 more MS than other boots meaning Jhin will be on par with any other ADC's Movement Speed if they went Galeforce + any other boot option. (Beside Mobility Boots ofc). In comparison to Eclipse, you lose the small dash + missiles, but activating the passive gives your attacks and abilities physical damage converted into 6% max HP , 15% movement speed, and shield that scales with bonus AD. This already seems like a stat overload but it does have more. Its Mythic Passive gives an additional 4% Armor Penetration per legendary item. If we compare this to the usual game length it comes down to either getting 6% Movement Speed OR 12% Armor Penetration. If you compare build paths and how much lethality you gain from items + crit. You are almost doing x2 the damage you would be doing if you chose Galeforce. The utility is always nice when chosen correctly but choosing it blindly every game will cost you, if you see that Eclipse is an okay option, try it out. It might surprise you!
