Purpose of the build and the items choice
Welcome to my guide of Katarina.
The purpose of this build is to get maximal damage output as fast as possible. Which I'll get with mejai and occult that works really good together since katarinas ulti and knife are hybrids. After that, I get some health and combine it with some more ability power + slow effect. All 3 very useful to katarina. After that, she is still little bit weak that is why I add both armor + magic resist = guardian angel. Which gives me a revive each 5min too really good. At the last spot i prefer to get more ability power = deathcap.
Thats the purpose of the build, now a little bit about runes and masteries ;)
The runes are picked by these reasons:
Magic penetration: Works well with some abilitypower and strikes through the hard enemies
Dodge: Because you are squishy in beginning and can need some dodge while u have made a shunpo move or doing youre ulti. Also helps to trigger your "Nimbleness" from masteries better.
Ability Power: To increase your damage in beginning and the entire game, but really helps out in beginning.
The thought about how I build my masteries is a little bit of offense, to get the magic penetration and cooldown reduction. Then I go 21 skills in defense. It's a real good choice to reduce the damage you take once u have shunpo an enemy and he strikes back on you and also of course to take less damage while "spinning crazy" with your ulti.
First choice, Flash.
Excellent spell to get away with, or closer to an enemy. Works well if you sometime tower dive with your shunpo and easily flash out if needed.
Second choice, Ignite.
An overall good "finishing off" spell and also good for first blood sometimes. But a real good purpose of choosing ignite is to prevent an enemy from regening health, like Dr.Mundos ulti or fiddlesticks annoying drain. Both good for yourself and for the whole team.
Try harass in beginning with your knives. Don't be too aggressive and play smart. You are squishy in beginning have that in mind. Later on, just work with the flow of your team and try not to "waste" your ulti. Wait for the right moments and maybe sometimes wait for a stun/supress to be wasted from the enemys before u doing your ulti, all for preventing them to interrupt you.
Pros / Cons
- Very good damage output and good ultimate
- Good escaping/following with shunpo if you can jump onto some mobs
- No mana issues due to not a mana user
- Not so long cooldowns
- Squishy (preventing it as much as possible with this build tho)
- Often main target
