<Grandmaster> LostFish - Lucian: The Guide

By LostFishEU
Work in Progress!

This guide is still work in progress, I update it almost daily. Make sure to check back next day for new changes

About me
I go by the name LostFish online and I have been playing League of Legends since season 3. I come from a MOBA background and used to play games such as Warcraft 3 DOTA and Heroes of Newerth. My first ranked season was season 4 and hit Platinum playing casually, then the next season I tried harder and got to Diamond. After that I played League of Legends more casually with friends and maintained Diamond. I started ranking again in Season 9 and hit Master within 2 weeks. I started Season 10 and got Grandmaster by playing Vayne. Now I am looking to achive Challenger.

I plan to make guides for other ADC's such as Draven Caitlyn Lucian and Twitch I will post the other champion guides below once they are done!

Twitch

I stream almost everyday on Twitch.TV 5 PM to 1 AM CET. I try to commentate my decisions and why I do certain actions or plays so you can learn from it also.

Coaching:

I also do coaching for ADC on Twitch, the coaching session is about 1,5 hour long and goes through your OP.gg, champion pool, live game and review. I have done hundreds of coaching sessions with great ratings afterwards. If you are interested in a coaching session with me, feel free to reach out to me on Discord

The Basic

If you are totally new to Lucian, I recommand going through the basic. If you have the basic knowledge of Lucian skip the basic by clicking Here

Lightslinger (Passive)

RANGE: 500
COST: 0 mana
COOLDOWN: Non
After using an ability, Lucian's next basic attack within 3 seconds shoots twice, the second shot dealing 50 / 55 / 60% (based on level) AD Attack damage physical damage, increased to 100% AD against Minion icon minions.

The second shot applies on-hits and on-attack effects at full effect and can Critical strike icon critically strike for 100% bonus physical damage.

If Lucian's primary target is killed before the second shot can go off, Lucian automatically shoots another enemy in range.

Piercing Light (Q)
RANGE: 500
COST: 50/60/70/80/90 Mana
COOLDOWN: 9/8/7/6/5
After a 0.4 − 0.25 (based on level)-second delay, Lucian fires a laser in the direction of the target enemy, dealing physical damage to all enemies in a line dealing 85 /120 /155 /190 /225 (+ 60% / 75% / 90% / 105% / 120% bonus AD)

Ardent Blaze

RANGE: 900
COST: 70 Mana
COOLDOWN: 14/13/12/11/10
Active: After a 0.25-second delay, Lucian fires a shot that explodes in a cross pattern upon hitting an enemy or reaching the end of its path, dealing Magic damage 75 / 110 / 145 / 180 / 215 (+ 90% AP) magic damage and Sight icon revealing the area for 1 second.

Enemies hit are marked for 6 seconds and Lucian gains Movement speed for 1 second if he or allied champions damage a marked target.

Relentless Pursuit

RANGE: 425
COST: 40/30/20/10/0 Mana
COOLDOWN: 22/20/18/16/14
Active: Lucian Dash dashes in the target direction. Passive: Relentless Pursuit's cooldown is reduced by 1 second for each Lightslinger shot landed, doubled to 2 seconds against enemy champions.

Relentless Pursuit resets Lucian's basic attack timer.

Relentless Pursuit can be cast during The Culling The Culling and other abilities can be cast during Relentless Pursuit.

The Culling

RANGE: 1200
COST: 100 mana
COOLDOWN: 110 / 100 / 90
Lucian rapidly fires shots in the target direction for 3 seconds, dealing 20 / 40 / 60 (+ 25% AD) (+ 10% AP) physical damage to the first enemy they collide with. The damage is doubled against enemy Minion icon minions.

Lucian can use Relentless Pursuit while channeling The Culling

While using The Culling, Lucian always faces in the casted direction and is Ghosted for the duration.
Recasting ends Lucian The Culling early.

Items
Blade of the Ruined King is one of the core items for Lucian It grants Physical Damage and Attack Speed which are both great stats, but the important is the passive and life steal from Blade of the Ruined King The passive grants Lucian a huge damage boost combined with his passive Lightslinger and the life steal from Blade of the Ruined King makes Lucian laning much easier. The active is a crucial part of Blade of the Ruined King The active deals 100 Magic Damage to an enemy champion and steals 25% Movement Speed from the target for 3 seconds. The movement speed helps him in skirmishes and 1v1s vs melees by kiting and also grants her a higher chance to dodge certain abilities which gives an edge in the skirmish. The raw Magic Damage from the active is not too bad either, even when you are vs a range and nothing to dodge, it could still be useful as it is an instant cast.
Essence Reaver fits Lucian kit great. Essence Reaver gains a huge Attack Damage boost and Crit Chance as well, which are the 2 most important stats early game. The Cooldown Reduction on Essence Reaver increases Lucian utility with more Relentless Pursuit and also makes him cast his spells more often which activates Lightslinger Essence Reaver unique passive opens Lucian ability to hard push faster with spells and increases his overall speed clear and poke potential.
Not too much to say about Berserker's Greaves It grants a huge amount of attack speed for 1100 gold, even more Attack Speed than Phantom Dancer for 2600 gold. They are the only damage increase for basic attack boots in the game, which makes them a go to item. You could also built Mercury's Treads or Ninja Tabi against heavy damage dealers (More info about them below)
Infinity Edge fits Lucian kit well because of the huge Attack Damage on it and Crit Chance as well, making your Piercing Light Damage massive. It is important that you build Infinity Edge after you built one of the Zeal items, either Phantom Dancer or Statikk Shiv (More info about them below)
This is a great item vs any nuker. The unique passive stores 30% of all Phyiscal and Magic Damage received and is taken as damage over time true damage instead is huge, and can be a life saver vs someone who can normally one-shot you. I recommand this item vs any nuker if any of the other items doesn't fit your build.
Mortal Reminder is a great item vs champions that rely on healing the 40% healing reduce from Grievous Wounds make a world of difference. I recommand to buy this item only if they have fed champions on opposite team such as: Vladimir Darius Soraka Warwick Volibear and Dr. Mundo. Even though the armor penetration is a nice damage boost, as Vayne you already have the anti-tank kit built in already, therefore it is not needed for anti-tank
Lord Dominik's Regards Will only be built If their team is really heavy armor reliant, such as Ezreal Iceborn Gauntlet ADC, Tank support, tanky Jungler and tanky Top laner, Lord Dominik's Regards could grow to be useful. On top of that it grants a great 45 pure Attack Damage boost.

PHANTOM DANCER
VS

STATIIK SHIV
Phantom Dancer makes it so you can pass through units and also gives you a movement speed which makes you get into a good position much easier. The unique passive: Lifeline, could save your life from the assassins in the enemy team.

I recommand Phantom Dancer if you are vs heavy nuke damage such as Veigar, Syndra, Zed and plan to teamfight a lot.
Statikk Shiv is the best item to get back into the game from a rough lane.
Statikk Shiv makes wonder for farming and speed clearing camps.

I recommand Statikk Shiv if you feel like you are behind and also if your team are missing minion clearing.

Spirit Visage is a great item because with this you will gain bonus healing from your Blade of the Ruined King and also your runes. Another thing to note is that the passive increases ALL healing. This means that the healing supports will also heal you more. I recommand this item vs heavy poke or AP heavy champions that kills you more slowly such as: Morgana Fiddlesticks Karthus Anivia and Teemo
Is a really good item vs AD assassins. Guardian Angel has pure AD that boost your damage and also gain a huge amount of armor. The unique passive is one of the most powerful item passive in the game. After the assassin used their ultimate on you they will need to kill you again but this time without it. By the time you get back to life their Assassin might be dead already. I recommand this item vs: Rengar Kha'Zix Kayn Vi and Nocturne
This item is great vs heavy Magic damage nukers while also gaining a lot of AD to your damage pool. One thing to note is that Phantom Dancer and Maw of Malmortius does not work together! They share an unique passive called "Lifeline" I recommand this item vs heavy AP nukers such as Lux, Syndra Zoe Veigar, Evelynn and Annie

-OR-

Ninja Tabi > ARMOR
This is the most powerful tank item in the game. It gives 20 flat armor resist and on top of that it gives a huge defensive passive "Blocks 12% of the damage from basic attacks." for 1100 gold, this is an insane vaule. If you are vs heavy Physical Damage in the enermy team, i highly recommand buying a pair of these.

Mercury's Treads > TENACITY
These ones are not as powerful as Ninja Tabi but still very strong. It gives a great boost of flat Magic Resist by 25, and reduce the durations of Crowd Control by 30% This is great vs Champions such as Morgana and Leona etc.

AKA Quicksilver Sash is great vs champions that rely heavy crowd control such as Ashe Enchanted Crystal Arrow, Morgana Dark Binding, Lux Light Binding , Sejuani Glacial Prison, Elise Cocoon, Skarner Impale, Malzahar Nether Grasp, Another thing to note is that quicksilver works against Mordekaiser Realm of Death It also has a decent Attack Damage, Life Steal and Magic Resistance.
Trinity Force is an interesting item for Lucian. It gains him Attack Damage, Cooldown Reduction, Mobility, and also a Sheen activation. However, the Attack Damage is quite low and he does not scale with the item well because of the lack of Crit Chance. But don't think it is a bad item, just that there are better choices for him that scales better such as Infinity Edge Essence Reaver

Black Cleaver works wonders with The Culling and Lightslinger making it really easy to stack up Black Cleaver's unique passive. As I stated about the Essence Reaver Cooldown Redcution works well with Lucian's spells and also the Health makes him survival easier because Lucian is a close combat Champion. Build this only if you are vs a tanky team.
Pros and Cons
Runes and Whys

PRECISION
Press the Attack: This rune fits Lucian perfectly. It activates after 3 consercutive basic attacks then deals 40-180 bonus adaptive damage. Not only does it deal damage after 3 basic attacks, it also activates vulnerability on the target. When the target is Vulnerable, they take 8-12% more damage from all sources. One thing to note is that your support will also deal x% amount of damage on the target, making it easier for AP supports to nuke the target. This also synergize well with
Lucian's Lightslinger which makes it really easy to get the Press the Attack after using auto attack into any of Lucian's abilies ( Piercing Light for example] into Lightslinger

The other runes doesn't really scream a Lucian rune. Lucian doesn't benefit from high attack speed so Lethal Tempo is out of the window. Fleet Footwork is not strong enough. Conqueror isn't terrible because you stack it so quickly but after using your ablities, your "steriod" effect falls off because lack of spells and rely on auto attacks, and Lucian works better with that extra burst you get from Press the Attack

Triumph This is the go to rune for most ADCs. This gives a massive heal on takedowns and grants also additional 20 gold, which could stack up quite quickly. Your goal as an ADC is to survival as long as you can in a teamfight, and gaining a 12% heal make a world of difference in terms of survivaling in a teamfight. Also on the botlane you will be against 2 players, that makes it after you kill one of them, you will gain the massive heal before you start fighting the remaining one, making it even more important to have.

Presence of Mind is the goto rune if you are going for the Manamune build. Presence of Mind gives you more maximum mana, which benefits Manamune unique passive "Gain Attack Damage equal to 2% of your maximum Mana."

Legend: Alacrity When debating which rune you should go out of these two, you have to think about your build before entering the rift. If you are going Blade of the Ruined King first item, then pick Legend: Alacrity because you will already have the sustain from Blade of the Ruined King These stacks increases everytime you takedown a Champion or simply kill minions, the more stacks you have, the more attack speed. One thing to note is that Legend: Alacrity is the easiest to stakc out of these 2.
Legend: Alacrity has a max stacks of 10 and starts with 3% Attack Speed even without any stacks!

Legend: Bloodline If you are not going Blade of the Ruined King or any life steal item early game, then I recommand Legend: Bloodline This allows you to go an item path that doesn't bring any life steal (Example Essence Reaver
into Infinity Edge

Coup de Grace This one is simple. Last Stand increases when you are low which you never want to be as an ADC, also your life steal will counteract this. Cut Down could be interesting by skipping Doran's Blade and going Cull instead to skip out of the health in order to benefit from Cut Down. As an ADC you also want to take the kills in order to carry late game, and Coup de Grace Makes it easier for that to happen.

SORCERY

Nimbus Cloak Works really well with ADCs. It gives a short burst of speed when you use your summoners which makes it easier to position yourself. You can also activate Heal to gain the benefit of both Heal movement speed effect and Nimbus Cloak to grant you a massive burst of speed and outrun the jungle gank.

Gathering Storm synergies well with the ADC role because of the late game carry fantasy.

First will be the Offense shards
Adaptive Attack Speed and Ability Haste Because Vayne scales really well with Attack speed, the Attack Speed rune will always be the superior choice.

In the middle we have the Flex shards
Adaptive Shield Tenacity and Slow Resist Because we are playing the ADC role, we want to put out as much damage as we can, and Adaptive is the only damage choice on this row, therefore we will go with the Adaptive

The last row is a bit more interesting, it will be the Defense shards
Flat Health Shield and Tenacity and Slow Resist to choice between. In 70% of the scenarios I would recommand the Shield because the damage will be Physical Damage from the ADC in most of the cases. However! There are cases when the support actually deals more damage than the ADC in laning, therefore, going with Tenacity and Slow Resist might not be a bad idea. Flat Health Could also benefit Vayne because it scales as you level, and as Vayne you become really powerful later into the game. Another thing to note is if you are vs heavy Physical Damage or Magic Damage team, you can swap to Shield or Tenacity and Slow Resist depending on their team composition

Conclusion
This cover up the basic knowledge you need to know about Vayne to climb with her. Hopefully this will take you to your desired rank! Of course there is hours of more content I could write about and go through every single detail, but I want the readers to come out from this guide not too overwhelmed but at the same time an indepth look into Vayne as a Champion. I hope you got the knowledge you were looking for and I will do more Vayne guides and guides on ADCs in the future on both YouTube and in writing format.
