Full control of the vision of the bot lane.
Lot of CC and good fight engagement abilities.
High HP regeneration you don’t need HP potion.
Good protector and secure kills
Very tanky late game
Slow movement depending on his Sapling Toss or ultimate Nature's Grasp to run away
Weak against range champions early
Gets out of mana very quickly
Deals low damage late game
Flash is the most important summoner spell which is an indispensable, you cannot not take it, you can use it to save your life or to protect someone on receiving damage, or also to engage a fight.
Exhaust is used against the player that deal huge damage most are adc to slow their attack speed, attack damage and movement speed.
Ignite its a good summoner spell to pick it when your bot lane enemy are healers such as or or also if you want to reduce the incoming heal to the ADC they mostly pick Heal and use it in the fight when their HP is going nearly to Half.
I've taken the Aftershock because maokai here is a support and you have lot of CC with the Aftershock you gonna have passive of immobilisation of the target enemy and increase your armor and magic resistance instead of Grasp of the Undying its optional to pick Grasp of the Undying which it deals damage and restaur some of your HP.
Font of Life
Font of Life is the best for you because the 2 other abilities are not important for Maokai which it gives to you heal rather than Demolish a damage against turret or Shield Bash because you're none of your abilities is giving you shields.
Maokai is a tanky champion late game and the Conditioning will give you more armor and magic resistance but Second Wind sustain is better to regenerate your Health after being hit by an enemy champion
every rune that its giving to you heal is the best for maokai while his passive is working for it the Revitalize Heals and shields are 5% stronger and increased by an additional 10% on low health targets, you dont need the Overgrowth because the items build you gonna do are all giving you high HP more than enough and Unflinching also will be covered from your items build.
Nimbus Cloak Passive is very good to use it after your ultimate you can go forward to chase the enemy before your ultimate reach him because your ultimate Twisted Advance is slow and they can skip it so with Nimbus Cloakyou can use your ultimate Nature's Grasp to boost your movement speed then you can catch the target enemy with your Twisted Advance.
TranscendencePassive: Gain 10% Cooldown reduction at level 10, yes this will help you more to get your ultimate ready faster because your ultimate is reason to engage all fights.
Passive : Sap Magic Each time Maokai casts an ability or is struck by an enemy's ability, Sap Magic's cooldown is reduced by 4 seconds.
Periodically, Maokai 's next basic attack, after a 0.25-seconds delay, against a non-structure heals him for 5 − 65 (based on level) (+ 6% − 13% (based on level) maximum health).
Sap Magic will not activate if Maokai is above 95% maximum health.
• Maokai can gain stacks from nearby enemy champions he has no sight of.
• The enhaced attack will apply other on-hit effects and can critically strike as normal.
• Sap Magic can be dodged and/or miss if Maokai is blinded (but will not be consumed) but cannot be parried or blocked (the enhanced attack will be).
• The empowered attack cannot be cancelled.
• Sap Magiccannot be used against turrets , wards , inhibitors or the Nexus.
• If Maokai posses a Spell Shield and it consumes an enemy ability he still receives the cooldown reduction.
ACTIVE: After a 0.35-seconds delay, Maokai releases an arcane shockwave that travels forth in a line, dealing magic damage to all enemies it passes through and slowing them by 99% for 0.25 seconds.
Enemies near Maokai are also knocked back up to 300 units based on their proximity to him.
ACTIVE: near Maokai dashes to the target enemy, becoming untargetable for the duration, dealing magic damage on arrival and briefly rooting them.
• Twisted Advance will cancel mid-dash if Maokai's target dies or becomes untargetable.
• Maokai will continue to chase his target even if he loses sight of them (if he does, sometimes a visual bug will occur where Maokai freezes mid-dash, but he will still reach them and root them)
• Maokai will follow any dash or blink except global Blink or Dash ( Recall, Teleport, Paranoia, Gate, Stand United,...).
• Becoming untargetable during Twisted Advance will prevent Maokai from being hit by non-targeted abilities ( Flame Chompers!, Requiem) as well as stop turrets and non-champion units from targeting him.
• POSSIBLE BUG: Maokai can interact with Dark Passage while untargetable, allowing him to root targets near Thresh.
ACTIVE: Maokai flings a Sapling Toss to the target location, remaining there for 30 seconds and granting sight around itself.
tether to nearby enemies, chasing them for up to 2.5 seconds, exploding upon impact or at the end of its duration, dealing magic damage to all nearby enemies upon detonation, capped at 300 against non-champions, and slowing them by 35% for 2 seconds.
Sapling Toss placed in bush instead have 30 (+ 2.5% bonus health) duration and deals double damage over 2 seconds to all enemies hit, capped at 600 against non-champions.
• Sapling Toss have a base movement speed of 400, increased based on Maokai 's boots:
o Boots: 425
o Berserker's Greaves, Ionian Boots of Lucidity, Mercury's Treads, Ninja Tabi and Sorcerer's Shoes: 445
o Boots of Swiftness and Mobility Boots: 460
Sapling Tossgrants sight of the target location even while the Sapling Toss is in flight.
• Unlike Volatile Spiderling the Sapling Toss will continue to chase their target even if they lose sight of them (but they do not prioritize champions so they will chase the first target they encounter)
• Sapling Toss will appear on the map as minions despite being untargetable and invulnerable.
• Sapling Toss will stop before Wind Wall and Unbreakable when Maokai is throwing.
o However, the Sapling Toss can chase enemies through Wind Wall and the damage will be blocked / reduced by Unbreakable
• Sapling Toss cannot stack on top of each other (they will move a short distance away from one another if they are aimed at the same location)
ACTIVE: Maokai summons a colossal wall of 5 thorny brambles that slowly advances forward, each stopping at the first enemy champion they collide with.
Each thorny bramble deals magic damage and roots for 0.6 − 2.4 (based on distance traveled) seconds.
• Enemy champion can be rooted and damaged multiple times by the ability if they manage to "follow" the ability.
Abyssal Mask This item provide you more mana, HP, Magic resistance and 10% cool down reduction which is also very important for you because ~ Maokai suffer a lot of losing mana Early because of his pokes E.
Frozen Heart This item is also great for Maokai support, to reduce the enemy adc attack speed and provide you a lot of mana and good armor defense, with 20% cool down reduction with this items you can easily reach the cool down reduction that it can be gotten in game items 40%.
Dead Man's Plate its known as an heavy tank item which it provide to you huge HP and more armor with its passive stack move speed and convert it to magic damage and move speed is a need for.
Spirit Visage Prove to you magic resistance, HP regeneration, HP and Cool down reduction its a known and most used item in all games and it works perfectly with Maokai passive.
Banshee's Veil is an alternative item if you want to build high magic resistance with more ability power and cool down reduction add its passive that block first ability attack or CC.
Sunfire Aegis its an alternative to use it or the deadman plat provide to you high HP and armor and aoe damage its good for split pushing also works with Maokai Passive and boost his HP regeneration.
Randuin's Omen if you're playing against a heavy AD team, randiun is the best pick
Thornmail also a known tanky item as tornmail, provide to you huge Armor and reflect 10% of your total armor as magic damage, also reduce the attack speed of your enemy by 15% for 1sec, this will help you a lot to survive and deal more damage when you receive Damage from your enemy.
Locket of the Iron Solari this is an optional pick, if the enemy team has 3 AP champions, this item will provide to your team some magic resistance
Zhonya's Hourglass if you want to enjoy your damage you can build zhonya, you get 2 in 1 armor, cool down redcution and ability power, its a good pick if you play against karthus while he can use his ulti when he is dead in a the end of a team fight your left hp is an easy kill for him.
Mercury's Treads if you want to get some magic resistance and reduce the duration of the crowd control on you use it.
Sorcerer's Shoesif you want to one combo kill your enemy teams adc this is a good boots if you build some AP items with it.
Ninja Tabi if you want to build some armor and block 12% of the enemy damage
With maokai you gonna secure the kill and feed your ADC easy as also his abilities can save him from ganks and the enemy engagement.
With the Sapling Toss you can use it such a ward in the bush, you can also use it to poke your enemy ADC or to damage the enemy support whom need to hide in the bush to engage on your ADC such Blitzcrank, Leona, Thresh etc...
With the Sapling Toss you gonna force the support to stay in the vision of your eyes and your adc can farm quite safe without doubt and your eyes will be focused only on the river and the ganks.
With the Sapling Toss your wards will be more used to ward the River and Dragon and this is a good advantage for you because you will control the bot lane to mid river and jungle.
How to engage the fight?
Once you hit Lv.6 you will unlock the ultimate Nature's Grasp, generally Maokai players use the Nature's Grasp to engage the fight because it will root all the enemy team in its passage, but for a bot lane 2v2 you can engage with the Sapling Toss if you're sure it will hit the ADC, because if the Sapling Toss hit the adc it will slow the movement speed then you can cast your ultimate Nature's Grasp as we know its slow so you gonna get the Nimbus Cloak bonus movement speed to boot you and you can catch the enemy ADC with your Twisted Advance if you wanna fight without to start with the Sapling Toss you gotta sacrifice your Flash if the enemy ADC is out of your range, then the ultimate will arrive to root the enemy champions there and the ADC then you can use your Bramble Smash to knock the enemy adc after that use your summoner spell Exhaust or Ignite depend which one you took then your Sapling Toss will be ready to use again to deal more damage and slow the movement speed, your ADC has only to hit basic damage and use ability damage and get the kill with full HP 0 damage on them.
Have fun and enjoy the Mokujin Maokai.
