Champion Build Guide

Olaf Top Guide / Build/ Runes SEASON 13

By Olaugh
Introduction
Hi guys
I have some experience with Olaf so I would like to share it with you.
I really recommend you trying out this champion because, when you get into him, he becomes really funny to play. And you will never get bored.
I personally like him because he fits my play style and he is almost unbeatable in 1 v 1, also amazing in 1 v 2 sometimes even 3. You are just keep throwing those axes and chasing enemies down , even under their turret, without any problem. The best part is your ultimate where you can`t be disabled for 6 seconds Ragnarok
Pros / Cons
Pros : 1) Incredibly early/mid game.
2) Decent poke and trades.
3) When ganked, high 1v2 potential.
4) Solid roaming potential too
5) Strong front line.
6) Overall very powerful tank that cannot be cc`d. Ragnarok

Cons : 1) Falls hard lately on.
2) Very hard to come back in game.
3) Vulnerable to gap closer enemies, since Olaf isn't mobile.
Team Composition
Synergies well with : 1) Lulu -Her R makes u stronger when going into whole enemy team for ad carry. It provides you health, size and gives you slow on basic attacks. It makes you even stronger to peel of, while u are getting focused in attempt to kill enemy ad carry.
2) Leona, Amumu and Braum , they are all decent picks to have on your team, when they pop their ultimate, they give you time to go all in and to focus the target(ad carry-99%).
3) Kled is actually pretty nice to have on your team as, his r drastically increases your movement speed which makes a job even harder for enemy team to get you off off their ad carry, which is already almost impossible to do.
So any champion that provides you time to go for enemy ad carry is good for you, especially those up there. Whichever champion can do like almost the same job as you can do is good.I mean on champions who can prepare you a situation. That can be Malzahar or Lissandra. Those champions can Flash and activate their ultimate, and your job is already done, u just have to do quick combo while the target is impaired by any kind of cc. But don't rely on your team that much, focus on what you are doing currently and on what you are made for, and that is killing enemy ad carry. So don't rely a lot and don't take your job as peace of cake.

FOR THE ADC'S Champions that you should avoid are : 1) The champions that cannot do enough damage while you are peeling for enemy ad carry, what I mean here is: while you are killing enemy ad carry, you are basically giving your team time to take enemy front line and whoever is near or out of position.Enemy team will try to do to their best to take you down, while you are attempting to kill their ad carry, which provides enough time for your team to do a decent job(damage in fight). Until you kill enemy ad carry fight should basically be over until next 5-15 seconds. Enemy team has no serious damage, so they are easy to kill and dive as well. But as I mentioned if your team can't do this then you are in trouble, so here are some champions that you should avoid:
As the 1) we have Kog'Maw, he is scaling really well so of course, he is late game champion, and you are early/mid game champion, so when you combine them, it just doesn't make any sense, so considering the fact that you are early/mid game champ, you are going to close the game between 15-28 minutes. So you need ad carry who has early on some serious damage just like Draven, his early aggression extremely fits your play style as well as having team fights early on. His early damage is enormous just like Miss Fortune, but only if she does her E R combo which makes the fights end in like 5 seconds. So we can say that MF is nice pick with Olaf . But now let's return where we started, so it will be ideal when you could avoid all late game scaling adc's which are : Kai'Sa, Vayne and Kog'Maw, which I already mentioned.

-So ideal would be Draven, { Jhin, Caitlyn, Jinx } with some early advantage will be acceptable too.

-But champions like Kai'Sa, Kog'Maw, Vayne , even Ezreal and Sivir would be ideal to avoid.

FOR THE SUPPORTS The champions that you should avoid :
1) There are no useless supports, most of them has some type of shield, crowd control and as most important heal, think about your W.
But the supports that you wouldn't really be happy to have on your team are: Anivia, Nautilus, even Zyra, Tahm Kench and Lux.
Those aren't the shiniest picks for you, but they are still useful, just not that much as : Leona , Zilean , Lulu, Taric and Rakan.Nami is solid pick too, her r has decent effect in fights, Morgana and the champions that has pulls like Blitzcrank, Pykeand Threshare always useful to pick up early kills, to do invade which will all finally result as early advantage, and you are early champion so...The point is to snowball the game early.

For Mid, Top and Jungle decent picks are : 1) Kled - run with 1000 movement speed .
2) Amumu - gives with his r a bunch of time to do a decent job in fights
3) Lissandra - her r just makes your job even easier to do, because the target is already impaired, so you haven't a lot of job to do.
4) Malzahar - amazing pick as mid laner, so as support, his r is insanely useful in any situations.
5) Camille, Jarvan IV- they are all good for picking up early kills with their ultimates.

So after all just make sure that your team can deal some serious damage to enemies while you are killing enemy ad carry or whoever is the prioritized target.
Runes
So on Olaf, plenty of runes have been tested , and the Conqueror has shown as the best one to work with Olaf
Conqueror contains : First line is made of
1) Overheal
2) Triumph
3) Presence of Mind
This runes are all good on Olaf, but the most effective one is second Triumph
It returns you nice amount of HP when you kill enemy,so the pros are : A) You can survive the clutch fight even with being ignited. B) You can fight 1 v 2 because when you kill first, Triumph will return you some HP which will enable you to finish the second enemy just by picking up axes- Undertow, healing up with your W- Tough It Out and finishing him/them with your E- Reckless Swing.
Other 2 runes from first line are: Overheal and Presence of Mind which give's you some mana restoration on champion take down and a bit of extra shield which will be made from healing your self on full hp, it will probably be done with Tough It Out, the problem of the rune is that the shield is so small , it can't even block like the incoming poke from enemy, it cannot absorb the half of incoming enemy ability in lane(Poke). They just aren't that useful for now.

For the second line in conqueror we have Legend: Alacrity, Legend: Bloodline and Legend: Tenacity. Here, the best rune to take is the first one, because it provides you attack speed which is best for you as Olaf. Legend: Bloodline is solid now too, but Legend: Tenacity just isn't enough good to be compared with Legend: Alacrity or Legend: Bloodline.

For the third and last line we have Coup de Grace, Last Stand, AND Cut Down, all of these runes received some buffs recently, but still the best one that works and makes sense is Last Stand , the same word tells you everything, just thing about your HP, the lowest you are, the strongest you are , and that's exactly how this rune is working.Think about Berserker Rage - your's passive and then we are up to our Tough It Out as well as Ragnarok. When you combine those together you will become incredibly strong.
In general that's all about primary rune page.
Now about secondary runes we have Domination, Sorcery, Inspiration and Resolve. So all of these runes will be used as your secondary rune page. Every situation is different so it pretty much depends on your natch-up.
Runes will be listed by the numbers in order by their power in the game

1) Inspiration the point of this rune is to have better sustain and poke ability in laning phase,so you should take potion for sustain- Biscuit Delivery + Cosmic Insight which gives you extra cool down reduction, which allows you to poke and trade more often as well as consuming your items effects, and summoner spells a bit faster then usually. In this rune page you have other more situational options like Magical Footwear, Perfect Timing and Approach Velocity-which got buff last patch and it give's you nice movement speed towards enemy which is good for diving ,but I don't highly recommend this to you, because Biscuit Delivery and Cosmic Insight seems like the best option and has best functionality on Olaf.

2) Resolve - This rune make's you more tanky and even provides some healing too, just like Inspiration , so if you aren't feeling well with Inspiration, take this as your secondary rune page.

Resolve INCLUDES this mini runes : Demolish and Bone Plating, this two are made for pushing towers and taking reduced damage while trading, it will mostly help you vs Renekton and Darius , those champions who has nice combo on level 3 , your rune Bone Plating will decrease their combo-damage,which allows you to win trades, which will result in zoning them as well as being pushed under tower, and you will have advantage in your lane because you are controlling the wave and poking them so they wouldn't be in able to do ****, but all of this can be done in order to use your poke properly and to play decently in lane, otherwise it's not op as it sounds.

SECOND MINI RUNES OF Resolve that you can go with for increased healing and sustain are Revitalize + Second Wind, these two will bring your HP back when you hurt enemies for example with your q Undertow or e Reckless Swing, and will increase heal too, that's the job from Revitalize, it will increase your healing effects more drastically the more low you are,so basically you will heal a lot with your w- Tough It Out , and if you buy Spirit Visage ...

THE THIRD AND LAST WAY : you can go with these runes, it doesn't make much sense because Olaf is not some hard scaling champion but it's cool if you take it.
1) Overgrowth and Conditioning, they will give you a higher amount of magic resist and armor as the game goes, and it will permanently increase your health points , so while going all in, it isn't that bad , but be mindful that you have much better runes to take.

3) Sorcery CONSIDERS THIS RUNES : 1) first way is going with Manaflow Band + Scorch, this runes provides you more mana and damage which allows you to poke more frequently and chase enemy down very quickly.
Second way of going is to take runes for more movement speed and better 1 v 1:
Celerity + Nimbus Cloak, they will help you to stick to the target and even if they flash they will be easy to catch, but again you need to know that there is much powerful secondary runes to take.

4) Domination You will almost never use this runes but in case you are going to use them let me show you what is the best option to take.
Ravenous Hunter + Taste of Blood , they will significantly heal you while landing a poke on enemy and your w Tough It Out is going to increase that heal again, which means that from this runes you can really get a lot of healing, but again remember that this is not the rune page you want to use, you can only take it
when enemy has a lot of poke, so you need to sustain and stay longer in lane.
SECOND WAY of using Domination is to take Cheap Shot to hunt enemy down, this will give you armor penetration if you impair enemy's movement. It's good for level 1 all in situations. If you want to play more safe you can go with Zombie Ward or Ghost Poro which will gift you a ward for solid 1 and half minute. That can save you from gank and also gives some extra vision-which is not bad at all.
In last line of Domination we have Ultimate Hunter + Relentless Hunter + Ingenious Hunter
First one provides you nice extra cool-down on your ultimate- Ragnarok
Second provides you extra movement speed and last one provides you cool down reduction on active items.

So lets conclude, the best option for secondary runes is Inspiration , 2) Resolve, 3. Domination and the last one Sorcery.
However as I said, everything is 99% situational, depends on versus who are you playing and also depends on your play style.

I hope i helped you a bit with runes. :)
Summoners spells
As a primary summoner spells you should take
Teleport + Flash
- TP allows you to return in lane faster and not to lose much experience, minions, and lane pressure, when you buy your power spike item Kindlegem ( you should be in able to buy it until 6 minutes and then tp back in the lane , you will start bullying your enemy, I will say more about that in items...
Flash allows you to escape ganks, even if a lot of players are replacing it with Ghost which I absolutely support, because I was Teleport + Ghost player , now I started to use Flash more frequently. Flash is also good to flash in their team and go for ad carry , it can be properly done if your team has vision, so you can sneak somewhere in their jungle and flash in, to delete enemy ad carry, or just normally be used in fights to from nothing just flash + Undertow + Ragnarok onto enemy ad carry, to make a fight for enemy team unwinnable.

You can go with Teleport + Ghost too , you have better follow up in fights, I personally learnt to escape ganks much easier with Ghost then with flash , you probably feel me right now if you are playing Olaf with Ghost , it's also very good to catch enemy who just flashed away especially if u take for secondary rune page, as I listed Sorcery - Nimbus Cloak + Celerity which will make you run with 1000 movement speed into enemy and walking through units.
If you ask me Flash or Ghost I would say it depends on your play style just like the champion pool you have.

You can go without Teleport , with Ignite if the enemy is easy to kill, which means he is squishy and immobile or you are simply countering him which means that you are already ahead.

You can add to your ignite Flash or again Ghost
It's more safe to take Flash , but with Ghost you will most likely go all in on level 1,2,3 and smash your enemy , but if you decide to go that risky be mindful of ganks , if you fall behind, it's not easy to come back-generally, and especially with Olaf.
I personally take Ghost + Ignite when I find [QUINN]] as enemy top laner, because she is very squishy and my Undertow deals like half her HP let's just say, so it's very easy to all in her on level 1,2 especially 3, you just need to have lane pushed towards your side, so you have enough space to chase and follow her.
Starter Items
STARTER ITEMS

As the first one and the most effective we have Corrupting Potion.

This item regenerates you mana and hp when you activate it( you can activate it up to 3 times until you recall), then it's recharged. It's very important during laning phase because you need to poke your enemy as well as regenerate your hp, because they will poke you too. In most of the time try to activate it while your Tough It Out is on, so you will receive increased healing , you will get more mana and hp. If you are going to push the wave and you throw your Undertow as well as activate your Tough It Out then activate your potion so while you are healing on w, your potion's healing effect is increased too. Try to use this mini strategy, it's like you have dark seal - Tough It Out and Health Potion which is Corrupting Potion in this example.

Doran's Shield
This item gives you ******ed hp regeneration after enemy pokes you or whatever.
It gives you 80 health points which is really solid, but the problem is you have to play a bit less aggressive because if you don't you will really quickly run out of mana and be forced to recall or you will get pushed under your tower because you haven't any source to push lane or to poke enemy.
It's good situational item, for example you can buy it when you are facing Vayne as enemy top laner. She is range which isn't good for you and she will probably bully you until you end under your tower and still she will be denying you form farming. So you are in big trouble since you can't really poke her because she has Tumble which is ideal for avoiding your Undertow. So here it's good starter item which will help you survive even the hardest match ups like Vayne.

Doran's Blade
This item is used when you want to play very aggressive and have more trades because it provides you 8 damage which will increase poke on your Undertow and damage while trading on your Reckless Swing. It also gives you 3 life steal which isn't huge but it help a little bit and you also get 80 hp which enables you to take longer trades and increases your all in situation because you have probably more hp then your enemy. Buy it when you are facing low threat so the lane is easy and you are already ahead, but some people are just always going with this item-it's not bad, but you have decreased poke ability( on which almost whole lane/lane pressure depends). So if you are reading this and you found your self, just go in the 1 normal game and give a chance to the Corrupting Potion. :)

So: Corrupting Potion, Doran's Shield and Doran's Blade are your starter items. So there is no like when should I pick Corrupting Potion,or when should I take Doran'Shield/Blade , you are simply Corrupting Potion, Doran's Shield or Doran's Blade player. Just like some people who are playing Olaf with Flash + Ghost or Teleport+ Ghost. That's simply your play style, your way of playing( are you playing aggressive/safe) or however. But so far the best one is Corrupting Potion for sure.

Long Sword + Health Potion OR Sapphire Crystal + Health Potion OR Cloth Armor + 4 Health Potion
This are less used strategies, some people would maybe first time hear it right now, but its really rarely used and its not that good, maybe in some situational match ups. Some players knows to buy Long Sword + 3 Health Potion as starter items as well as going with Cloth Armor + 4 Health Potion. They are usually going with it vs Pantheon so they can all in him on level 1 with Igniteor to play safe with armor and plenty of potions so they can farm without fear,so they will first hit level 6 and just smash him and then of course start playing aggressively. Some players knows to go with Sapphire Crystal + Health Potion as starter items because they want to poke enemy as much as possible and push the lane so they can bully them under their tower with Undertow, maybe even Reckless Swing if in range. That is good(bullying them) but going with Sapphire Crystal isn't that good.I personally tried it many times and yeah, you will really bully them and they wouldn't be in able to farm almost at all, but however it's not that effective and useful as it sounds, so I would recommend you to go with Corrupting Potion or Doran's Shield-if enemy is Vayne or even Quinn. Doran's Blade is good too when you want more bit more damage and health but as I already mentioned it also depends on your play style even if you should ignore your logic and accept the facts, which I'm not doing too.
Just make sure that you can poke enemy, sustain, trade and you are okay.
Boots
BOOTS
We have
1) Ninja Tabi
ALWAYS GO NINJA TABI
reduces tower damage while diving !
reduces dmg from everyone's basic attack and makes it harder to burst you down
more tanky in lane/ harder to poke down/zone from fights/objects
lets you tank towers
less dmg from minions when trading or going bit too deep
You can get them early like in 5th min or in 15th min depends have you been destroyed/dived a lot or not, if so(being dived a lot) then you cant focus on your early game, you have to go tank and not die anymore and give your team time to scale and possible make comeback for you

If you are vs 4/5 ap then go resist boots but if there are 3 ap 1 ad carry and 1 tank STILL go tabis
Mini situational items
Situational items

So what about mini items?
They are: Hexdrinker , Bramble Vest and Executioner's Calling in general.

Doran's Blade
You can pick it up vs Fiora or some champion that fights a lot and you need more dueling power and extra ho to save you from ignite/popping all potions early ,thus making you vulnerable to ganks/roams

SITUATIONAL ITEMS
Executioner's Calling go for it when playing against champion that rely on heal just like you , for instance Darius , Vladimir , Illaoi , Aatrox , Jax , Yasuo , Dr. Mundo , Renekton , these are just few quick examples that you may or may not go with Executioner's Calling against , but should you , definitely yes, but if you are behind then focus on Black Cleaver in first place.
Tricks : Hit enemy with axe and Executioner's Calling will activate and reduce heal so when you see that enemy will lv up or will get hp back from Triumph or get hp from regular takedown or from ability just like Darius Decimate try to hit enemy with axe and use your item effectively . When enemy is going all in just like Samira who goes 1v5 hit her and activate Executioner's Calling and save your team from dying as well as prevent her from excess healing which makes her even harder to take down.

Bramble Vest go for it when you are bit behind or getting dived by hyper ad champs like Yasuo Master Yi or Fiora or if your playstle is different you can choose to somehow outplay/punish them and return game lead and turn situation in you favour by picking up Kindlegem instead of Executioner's Calling , your choice , look at your team and decide, calculate have they that much healing so you need it or your ally has an ignite so you can manage to deal against enemy without reducing heal and getting extra armor from Bramble Vest. Its the same as Executioner's Calling just providing armor instead of dmg with same effect.

Hexdrinker rare pick because of its weak side where you find yourself in bad spot if you buy it because t doesnt scale with Sterak's Gage and you lose one shield just like if you buy Trinity Force together with Black Cleaver and then you lose Phage because you cant get effect from 2 Phage , its more an item for adc's but you can buy it when you are not going for Sterak's Gage which is rare but still possible, buy it when enemy team has few light ap like Bard Lissandra someone not aggressive like Syndra Cassiopeia Katarina Akali so you dont need extra hp cause you wont get bursted but you need extra ad+cd to burst them

You may need boots early vs range champs or some mobile champs with lot of dashes like Yasuo Lucian Riven and so on , you get the point

After all we have Stopwatch
It's useful vs champions(just click R to win)
Just like Veigar , Pyke and Tryndamere, even Zed and Fizz.
So it's very good to avoid their ultimate or to wait until their ultimate expire.
It's smarter to take it from runes then to spend 600 gold but however just make sure that you have it if enemies are someone from up here.
Items/Build
Goredrinker is now new and best item on Olaf!
First mini Goredrinker item is Ironspike Whip and use it whenever you can to either clear waves or poke / trade with enemy or make enemy feel secure if he is behind his minion and then throw axe ativate Ironspike Whip and boom - no wave and you have clear all in . As for Goredrinker dont use it that often for poke ,wave clear, have it ready if enemy jg comes and dont waste it and try to use it when you are as low as possible on hp with ur Tough It Out on so heal is maximazed

So the best item on Olaf is Black Cleaver. (new season - not anymore)
This item gives you attack damage, which is important as well as health points, which this item provides too. But that's not all, it also provides cool down reduction, extra movement speed as well as armor penetration. So overall it's the best item on Olaf in game currently. Some players also knows to exchange it with Trinity Force, which I was doing too. They just want more dueling power which is completely fine. Olaf is really good fighter so it's really enjoyable to play with Trinity Force.
It has its benefits though,it provides you attack speed which Black Cleaver doesn't. It also provides mana which is important on Olaf because you are literally winning the lane with mana(poking enemies with Undertow ). But on the other side Trinity Force doesn't provide you 400 health points as well as armor penetration. So you are a bit easier to kill with Trinity Force. However I recommend you to go with Trinity Force when the lane is easy, and you are ahead, also if you need more dueling power it's not bad option. But for now stick to the Black Cleaver

There is a lot of options to go with as second item, so if enemy has damage more than average and also has some escape ability, your eyes should be on Turbo Chemtank, this items also provides mana! I already talked about mana, so it' really nice item to have on Olaf. Turbo Chemtank also provides cool down reduction as well as burst movement speed while walking towards enemy champion which is really good for diving. Of course it provides armor. So overall it's pretty decent item since Olaf can quiet easily rush into enemy team and get that ad carry very fast.

Second item can also be Sterak's Gage. It provides health, damage but as most important huge shield-actually shield depends on your bonus health points. It will usually be activated after 4,5 seconds during fight, where is also your R going to start slowly expiring,so it grants you tenacity just on time. You will also become a bit bigger, but that's not that important. However it's really nice items in Olaf since you can survive 1 v 2 quiet easily as well as diving enemies with that shield which will for enemy be activated in unexpected moment. It gives you some damage too, it's very useful item. You can go with it as second or third item.

Spirit Visage can also be your second item if you are vs hard ap and you need more heal to survive all poke coming up from enemy, really good item and synergies well with Olaf Tough It Out but nowdays DD is more meta ( Death's Dance

Ravenous Hydra is optimal item on Olaf,it provides you huge amount of attack damage as well as life steal. It's very useful for wave clearing and split pushing.
It also opens a 1 v 2 high potential situations with its life steal. You should take it when ahead, sometimes players knows to buy only Tiamat, that's because they don't really need full item( a bunch of damage and life steal). probably they only want to clear a waves bit faster so they can maybe look for other lanes to roam or to teleport(again thats someone playstyle who likes to roam a lot so this is a tip for them in low elo of course only) bot while your enemy is clearing the wave which you just pushed with Tiamat. Some people likes to go with Death's Dance instead of Ravenous Hydra because again it provides powerful healing effects and it absorb some incoming damage. It gives you really strong dueling power so as Ravenous Hydra. So both items are actually pretty good, but still I would recommend you Death's Dance because its meta right now which for you means being more tanky and getting nice amount of AD as well as lifesteal, for the Ravenous Hydra when you are in 1 v 2 even 3 situation you are still attacking all of them at once because of Tiamat and it seems more effective from that aspect of looking while Death's Dance is much better vs mixed team in terms of ap and ad.
You cant really go DD if they have hyper carries who will burst you down in matter of second, but again if you are ahead , if you are carrying and comfortable and know your limits which requires lot of experience you can go for DD
SITUTIONAL ITEMS / FOLLOW UP ITEMS
Better follow up in fights.
Turbo Chemtank Gives you mana which is useful and essential for poking , engaging ,roaming , chasing diving... Gives you good amount of hp and bit less armour but makes up for it with its active effect which grants you huge movement speed burst towards enemy champion, overall its decent item on Olaf. Go for it when playing vs light ad , not some heavy which you will prefer to go like Thornmail against. Go for it as 1t item if you want , for instance you can buy it vs Riven if you are afraid and want feel more comfortable in laning phase, nothing wrong with having it as 1st item , you can somewhere while building it find space for Kindlegem , that one part of Black Cleaver will give you decent hp and cd which is important so you can keep throwing Undertow . So if you decide to go for it , buy Glacial Shroud first and Kindlegem and then finish Turbo Chemtank. With those 2 mini items as first buy , you have 20%cd some armor hp and still when you pop Ragnarok you get dmg so dont think dmg is crucial stat to get early on as Olaf

Dead Man's Plate It gives you decent amount of hp , somewhat more than previously listed Turbo Chemtank , gives more armor than Turbo Chemtank , has same effect as Turbo Chemtank just instead of being active its passive effect which always serves movement speed which helps you roam faster , join teamfights faster , catch enemy when Flashes away but only downside is that it doesnt provide mana for poking which forces you to recall more often and doesnt give that sudden and rapid burst of movm speed which is more useful for killing adc.
Great choice on Olaf , you can go for both Dead Man's Plate and Turbo Chemtank if enemy team has more ad champs and they have dashes like Lucian Tristana Vayne Kai'Sa who can turn invisible and so on... I would prefer Turbo Chemtank vs champion that has high potential for carry if gets early lead like Riven Darius ... and ignore Black Cleaver.
Dead Man's Plate is not good 1st item on you like Turbo Chemtank but its great second or third or even forth item on you which is best to buy against ad champs that dont really go that much crit like Kog'Maw Senna Ezreal while Turbo Chemtank is better vs Twitch and Kalista those who produce enormous amount of dmg and needs to be taken down asap so you charge with Turbo Chemtank straight into them.

Randuin's Omen
Its best buy against full crit champs just like Yasuo Jinx Caitlyn even Miss Fortune Jhin Xayah , They have long range especially if they buy Rapid Firecannon just like Caitlyn will

Shurelya's Battlesong If your team has problem catching and killing enemies and you dont, you can buy this for them so you support your team with movm speed burst to make plays and come somwhere faster, again dont buy it among with Turbo Chemtank because you cant use 2 movm speed effects just like you cant buy Sterak's Gage with Maw of Malmortius and have 2 shields , just like you cant buy Blade of the Ruined King with Hextech Gunblade and get 2 bursts
Ability explanation
SO you always want to go Q>E>W( ofc lv up R when you can). There are some certain matchups where you can actually lv up q once more instead of Tough It Out or put one more point into Reckless Swing instead of getting w for bigger burst dmg like Yasuo who can dash on minions so there are less chance of hitting him with axe and you see an kill potential so you lv up e twice instead of Undertow. Thats something that high elo players do and the best option for you if you are diamond or below or if you dont have like at least 500K points ( experience on olaf) stick with basic **** cause that minor difference isnt anyways going to win or lose the game
So dont go in fight easy even tho Olaf is not high mechanical champion but still if you dont hit your Undertow which is skill shot you will fail to kill enemy adc and you just screwed the fight , so take time and calculate when and how to go on adc especially if its Kai'Sa or Vayne who has invisibility to play around and give their team more time to peel you down.
So always max you r Q and try to hit every single one during laning phase , know its range , know tricks with it which I wil talk about more later.
As for the Tough It Out always max it last except if you are going full ad and having fun with lifesteal !
Reckless Swing max it second and trade whenever you can or if you are beginner save it to secure cannon, always cast in in last second of fight so you dont pay that 50hp cost second or two earlier which will make significant diff especially is you are ignited and every point of hp in 1v2 play matters , save it to finish off enemy( of course when you begin fight immediately cast q>e>w and then next E save for end.
Laning phase/early game
LANING PHASE
TIPS
--- You should always wait in bush to get potential 1v1 LV 1( chase down with axe and dont throw it far away, throw it as short as possible to pick it up asap) and possibly get kill or at least burst some summoner spell and with that you probably will end up bursting even enemy's tp to come back in lane
--- You always want to pick up 1st three minions with axe and hit enemy with that axe at same time ( if this seems hard , practice it in practice tool for some time :) )for super worth value ( you got minions all xp and you poked enemy). Now you can either be happy with your axe or if you want more and enemy is melee ,not range you can feel free to go all in(make sure to pick up axe and keep basic att while coming to axe location.
--When it comes to next( last) three minions , LET your ENEMY push - come close to your minions as possible ) and then use that situation and hit them with Undertow and go for LV 1 kill .
--- In next wave if you still didnt get kill you can ( its supposed that lane is pushed towards your tower , which means enemy is closer to your tower than you to his which means more space to all in and less chance of them escaping by flash) . So you do this by staying flash distance back from enemy and while they are in animation of basic attack you cant miss ur axe , they think you are far from them , but ur axe slows your rune Approach Velocity gives you rapid speed and in blink of an eye you have chance to get kill-make early game lead.

REGULAR LANING PHASE
Now after you ve done that or didnt , however ,what can you do next is :
In lane try to poke enemy but try not to damage minions simultaneously which will unfortunately result in your wave being pushed to the tower which means less kill potential for you. You can damage minions if it will execute them so you get gold , if you cant do that , its fine , make sure to poke them up to 50% of hp and then walk little back to give them confidence which will result in walking closer to kill your minions which is again kill potential for you

So your goal is to seek to look for every second for every opportunity to all in enemy with axe( ofc be mindful of where enemy jg is and is their mid missing or not even tho with full hp and biscuits you can 1v2 if you are in good spot( you probably did this plenty time when enemy jg tried to gank and you go Undertow Reckless Swing basic attack - execute one and pop Tough It Out + biscuit to outplay another one), but lets get back to the point.
For example you know that enemy will go for cannon so again, walk little back , make them think they can take it and then you go in with Undertow + Approach Velocity and myb even Phage which will result in 100% kill or bursting 1 if not both summoners.

LANING PHASE WITH Reckless Swing
Always trade with it and be careful to not drag minion wave to you.You can also use it to secure cannon if you are not confident either because you are beginner or walking all the way to cannon is dangerous because you can potentially get out traded since you cant strike back bcs minions will dmg you a lot , if you find yourself in that bad situation then hit q e and back
Remember that if you hit E and then finish enemy or minion you get hp refunded.
If your E is on 2,3 sec cooldown or if isnt you can walk to basic enemy cannon which will make your E come back which allow you to strike enemy with just fresh E while they thought that you are only one that will take dmg, after that enemy will waste potion and you will just pop Tough It Out

LANING PHASE Tough It Out
Now we have only talked about your advantages and good possible occasions.
Lets break down bad stuff
If you are being poked a lot then you have to sustain in order to be in lane so activate your Tough It Out but be careful, you cant activate it if you are still in enemy's basic attack range zone. So if you just got your *** kicked , walk back to the minions that are most away from enemy and try to heal and pop even potions if you see that you will not have more opportunities to heal.
When you are fighting or even short trading feel free to pop W for those 2 basic attacks.
Tough It Out Use it during laning phase when you almost died , go to jg find plant and depending on your missing hp/mana activate or dont your W. So if you have mana but not hp then sacrifice your 30 mana W to get back more hp or if you have lot hp but no mana then just get plant and dont go with Tough It Out because you will not end up with more mana

As for fights whenever you are fighting go with Tough It Out even if you are full hp, if you are vs tricky champs like Darius or morde who will most likely deal more dmg in first 3 sec and fight will look more winning for them even tho you will win then activate W on half % hp and DONT activate it when you hit axe , activate in microsecond before you start hitting so you get full length and you dont lose any of those precious healing seconds
When you are getting ganked first focus one with lower hp except if you see that other one is really more important to put focus on just like some squishy champ that will feel confident going in since her jg came but you delete her in second or 2 and then finish with w+potion jg ( will talk more in detail about this lately
Matchups
IF YOU CLICK NOTES ( PENCIL SHAPE SIGN THATS EVERYWHERE IN GUIDE IN EVERY CORNER YOU CAN SEE IT SO I DONT HAVE TO WRITE OR COPY PASTE TWICE.
But in general here there are few advice
Vs easy range champs : more poke and dmg like phage to shut them down early so they dont end up destroying your team
Vs hard range champ : go full potions + biscuits+ pop Tough It Out often to survive and poke them as much as possible , ask jg for help , and stay in bush to get 1v1 LV 1 possibly , buy Kindlegem to get cd and hp for more frequent poking and more hp to withstand all incoming damage.
Vs easy melee like Yorick Irelia Nasus then go whatever you want you will destroy them anyways and probably carry that game but stick to the core build , dont go crazy and buy Duskblade and do some random **** and screw free lane.
Vs hard melee like Darius Riven Camille they are bit more tricky to deal with so go for hp and cd and poke them and read next paragraph to see how to counter their all in.

How to beat Riven
When she all ins you which means you notice some weird dash activity she will probably sooner or later jump on you and you will be knocked up and your Ragnarok doesnt release you from air resulting in her making whole combo while you in air and you probably will activate R as instinct which will make situation even worse since your R reduces armor and she will oneshot you even easier.
So the only way out that works pretty well even tho it will be really close battle is to react fast, when she goes to jump on you , you CLICK your Ragnarok, dont focus on Tough It Out even tho it is essential as well but just focus on not getting knocked up and since you are not knocked up you cast immediately Undertow + Reckless Swing followed by basic attacked which will all together take one second resulting in getting her down to really low % hp so she will either abort her all in or try t dmg you even tho she knows she cant win, you pick up axe right after throwing it and thats almost 600 dmg in 2 sec almost (2 Q 1 e 1 basic)
Now during lane phase you want to poke her and try not to dmg her while she has shield. When she comes for cannon dont cast Q or E ,you know she will predict that and by dashing she will not take dmg but you will as cost to activate ability. When you see that she used her multiple q's which she will because she wants to scare you and get cs ,thats when you go for kill-when she doesnt have dashes and jumps , if you are bad at flashing her R (if it occurs to be needed in fight) you can pick ghost to follow her dashes instead

How to beat Darius
So his goal is clear to get 5 stacks on you asap and he lets you think you got him and in last 2 seconds he pops Ghost comes back with Decimate to heal and turn things around ( for which you are hopefully ready with Executioner's Calling which we already talked about) and then he hits W R and gg.
So 1st advice that I will recommend you is to never come too close to him, his pull is approximately little less than one Flash distance, if you get pulled he hits whole combo gets 5 stacks instantly(3 abilities + order and we already there almost + you drag his minion wave onto you and you are pretty much dead. So you stay one flash away from him, you secure cannon and cs with Undertow and simultaneously poke him down and when he is low to 50% hp thats when you go in no matter are you 50,60,70,80,90 % hp . . You can even flash his 1st Q if you see that you will get hit by, but since you can slow him with axe and you get movm speed from Approach Velocity I think that you can run rapidly and come to him unexpectedly fast so you are not in his Q radius/zone. When he goes for minions you know he will cast his W which resets his auto att and deals more dmg and slows and refunds half its cooldown if target is killed so use time while he is in animation(killing minion)come and hit him with q+e and even if he pulls you his W is on 3-4 sec cooldown and since he pulled you he cant hit Q and heal so you get kill here
On lv 6 you destroy him , you just have to hit 2-3 axe in lane from safe range and he is now on 70%hp and you kill him with closed eyes, just hit Undertow walk , then hit Ragnarok cast Reckless Swing by the way your Tough It Out should be activated , you pick up axe slow him again give him +few basic attacks and nothing he can do, he is perma slowed he cant use pull , he cant slow you with w so he has only Q and R ,R is useless since he hasnt stacks on you nor you are low so dmg is increased on his R and he cant hit q cause you are near him. So this in this game phase you will get 2-3 free kills, when you come next time in lane you can just all in him on full hp, its just how it goes vs Darius, hit one axe and he is dead

If you are now afraid about lv 1 , you destroy every champion in league of legends on lv 1 , no one can fight you, no one champ can cast Q with 80 dmg every 2 second and get slow every 2 sec that lasts for more than 2 sec pretty much and have 1.5 att speed on lv 1 that even increases, so wait for him in bush do basic + axe + basic and just keep axe hitting him along with basic attacks , the only scenario where you lose 1v1 LV1 is if he went dorans and has 80 hp+ than you and if you face check bush and he gets first order att off ,dodges your axe and hits his Q and heal, and you cant really go that far to pick axe , then you are screwed , or if he has Flash + Ghost or Ignite which is lead of 80 hp from ignite + 80 hp from his dorans then you are 160hp behind + you dont have axe
Whenever he unfortunately pull you and goes for trade , you strike him back with Q+E and walk back, this is tactic : when he pulls you , you dont hit Q right after but you walk little behind him,you just spend half second to come behind him which is not hard since he pulled you and then you hit Q ,why? because then you throw q towards your tower where he will exact chase you , so you go Q+E there and as you are running toward your tower you pick up axe and again return him with one more axe so you dont lose trade that hard. During lane watch out on your minon's hp so when they are low he will try to q them along with you so when you see your 3 minions low either run away from his q or come bit earlier because you know he will not miss 3 minions and then cast q and go for kill, sometimes try to walk bit closer and back off fast, do it few times and try to bait his q , just be careful to not get pulled into his minion wave.

How to beat Camille
And last champion that I will talk bit more about just like previous 2 is Camille , about other champs I will say just few words but these are champs that counter tactic is really hard to obtain and perform against in action

So its basically the SAME thing just like vs Riven , Riven jumps on you while Camille dashes instead , tactic is same ,when you see that she is rope jumping on you ( be careful to not get baited since she has 2 dashes) so just pop Ragnarok before she stuns you just like you hit R before Riven knocks you , while Camille is landing/flying/dashing however onto onto you , quick cast axe + lightning on her so almost before she finishes her landing she already lost good 400hp , pop Tough It Out and all in her since she hasnt dash to escape she cant hit q just like Darius and heal and her R is useless because if she goes for it she will even help you because she comes close to you as close as possible, she has no escape tool nor movm speed that will get her quickly out after trading with you since you hit her with axe and thats kill for you. I hope you get it but lets recap once more, so now Camille is flying onto you with Hookshot from the wall , coming straight onto you, you IMMEDIATELY press Ragnarok and hit Undertow with Reckless Swing, now she just landed and barely started running away and you already chunked her for half hp almost, you keep perma slowing her , you have Tough It Out , you get your Reckless Swing fast again and you just chase her down, she cant slow you with Q and thats free kill while actually it should have been only one small short trade from her aspect.

As for the other champs I wont write it here because you have everything about them in beginning of the guide.
Mid game/teamfighting
Mid game is where you are beast and where you are fighting enemies , getting drakes ,destroying towers ,diving everyone , killing , beating **** out of them just like in early game.
Now fight whenever you can , dont be afraid to cast R just because its only one kill
and you are afraid will you have R for fight ,you will, assist is gold, kill is gold, do everything in your power, fight as much as you can , farm whatever you can make as many calls as possible , your goal here is to END the game until 25-30th minute so you dont turn into useless **** and get outscaled
If you destroyed enemy in lane then dont waste time killing same enemy 6th time in a row ,teleport bot, take kills or make them ahead if they are early champ just like you , roam mid , help jg , do everything that pushes you towards nexus, kill herald- push, dive 1v2 enemy bot if you have Sterak's Gage , walk into their jg ,ward , if they spot you go 1v2 , even 3 you will get 2 kills , that provides your team chance/time to get towers/inhibs, try desperately to end the game or have mental breakdown after 50 min game of which first 20 was 20/0 for your team

In teamfighs you are the key , you are going for adc you need to find adc in weak spot, for instance the thing I do is so random , if we as team are 2 flash away from enemy adc (for example let it be Lucian Vayne now - the hardest one) ,If I see her/him securing cannon with dash(which they will do because of passive that gives Luciananother attack and Vayne provides more dmg on 3rd attack) with her VERY valuable dash which makes whole thing about her so hard/good , I immediately Flash + Undertow + Ragnarok on her, so from complete piece and while both team clear minions on mid or wherever , when I see she uses dash , no thinking , Flash on her immediately, and she has no escape tool , activate sweeper so you see if she goes invisible where she is walking and kill here just like that , you will die as well 100% , but worth , your team now wins fight/gets inhib or possibly even better ends game. You also need at least one brain in your team that will follow you on one or another way and distract enemies from bursting you while you are killing adc.
Late game
NO LATE GAME EXCEPT IF YOU DISCOVERED SOME SCALING OLAF BUILD THAT IS TANKY 1V9 MACHINE
Conclusion
Conclusion
Conclusion is that Olaf sucks that hard that we may not be able to climb out of platinum 1 right now , and plat 1 will be very hard to reach.
I dont want it to happen but Olaf in order to be playable needs rework, no buff in world can help us , all champs has some sort of dash,jump,leap,invisible... We are exchanging flash for their dash, our ghost for their movm speed buff, it is so hard to do anything. As soon as they get 2 items powerspike we are dead, I would need both yuumi and lulu in my team to win a ranked game in platinum 2,1 today.
My advice is to play premade duo, so you have at least 1 man who will pick early game champ and help you to close game unti 25th minute or otherwise your ****ed. Ask your team members to pick early game champ or the game is over , maybe team up with support that plays yuumi and lulu which will help significantly. If they nerf hullbreaker now its game over lol.
