Kassadin
Mel is known to not scale, with this build you do scale, but you will never outscale a lvl 16 kassadin. After level 6 you're just fked for the rest of the game, and you have to heavily rely on your team to deal with him in lane and teamfights.

Rell
I won't add specific champs, any champion that has hard CC and gives you enough time to land your E and guarantee your damage is your best friend. Other types can include champs that helps u survive hard engages, like a lulu or janna.

Champion Build Guide
I believe Mel is meant to be a burst mage, through and through. To capitalize on that, this build intentionally goes against almost every current META build and playstyle. I’m not claiming this is the only way to play Mel — and it probably won’t fly in Grandmaster+ — but it is extremely effective in Diamond and below, and very likely viable in Master.
To me, Mel is a “burst, burst, burst, then execute from a completely illegal HP value while negating damage and reflecting projectiles” mage — a glass-cannon nuke disguised as a frail one-shottable and juicy champion ready to be farmed for gold.
The game plan is simple: sit in fog, wait for someone to make a mistake, and if your E lands, they are dead. Tank, ADC, doesn’t matter. The numbers they’re looking at are not the numbers you’re playing with.
This build is designed to snowball early, stacking raw AP and magic penetration until you’re effectively dealing true damage to most champions, then pivot into survivability later on. Eventually, you reach a point where you can reflect a high-impact projectile and immediately ult to execute its owner. Ezreal Q, Caitlyn headshot, Aphelios sniper, Zoe Q, Jayce Q — congratulations, you just paid your HP taxes late.
There are downsides. Early on, you will struggle with mana, waveclear, and zero sustained DPS. Your spells are nukes, not tools for mindless spam. If you throw abilities without intent, you will run out of mana, get caught, and explode. Early game, you are a walking glass-cannon nuke — until defensive items give you just enough margin for error.
This playstyle will feel very different from “normal” Mel builds. But once you experience the power of deleting people from emotionally safe HP, it’s very hard to go back.
Timing is everything. Buffer your E with Flash so it looks like you completely whiffed — your projectile will be behind you — but in reality, it’s invisible and landing right in front of them. Practically unavoidable if they’re not watching both the spell and your flash. Go test it in the practice tool… it’s basically cheating.
Passive Application & Ult on Non-Champions
Mel’s passive applies to any unit, not just champions. Jungle monsters, dragon, Baron, Malzahar minions… you name it. Normally you can’t ult them, but if you’ve stacked at least one passive stack on a champion, your ult can now hit anything with your stacks.
Wanna do 2k+ execute damage on Baron? Stack your passive on an enemy, then time your ult perfectly. Boom — Baron just got audited by Mel.
40% Threshold Overkill (Runes/Items)
This one is insane. If someone is at 45% HP and you hit them for 20% HP with a spell:
The first 5% is normal damage
The remaining 15% triggers your % damage amplification from runes/items as if it’s a separate instance
This works perfectly with Mel. Her passive and ult scale INSANELY with this mechanic. You can ult someone above the 40% threshold, and the extra execute damage below 40% still applies — often way more than you would expect. Your enemies’ HP bars are lying… as usual.
W: The Double-Edged Last Resort Sword
Think of W as your last-ditch, high-risk, high-reward nuke.
Need a tiny bit more damage to push someone over the execute threshold?
W adds 3 stacks and bonus damage, which can turn “almost dead” into actually dead.
Warning: it leaves you extremely vulnerable, but sometimes the extra nuke juice is worth the risk. Mel doesn’t play safe anyway — that’s not how a tax-fraud mage operates.
