I recommend this spell due to the fact that Xin Zhao does not have an escape method.
I highly recommend this spell on any build because of the slow and reduced damage .

Other options that are still affective


Flash is a decent substitute for ghost. It can get you to a spot fast and save your *** from huge ganks. I still think ghost compliments this build more consistently, but feel free to make that swap.

Ignite can also be put in for those early kills, but in my experience the ghost/exhaust combo has allowed me to finish off most opponents. If you see the enemy team has a Dr. Mundo or Vladimir, then this spell becomes much more valuable. Don't underestimate the healing reduction it gives.

Teleport can be extremely useful on 5v5 for getting around, so you may need to make that change for ghost. Hopefully a tank has teleport instead, and you don't have to sacrifice that killing power.

Cleanse is never a bad idea on any champion, but your focus here should really be bringing the pain to the enemy. It can be extremely useful to diminish your vulnerability to CC if you are facing a Lux or a team with a lot of slows and stuns. Use your judgment based on the other teams champions.

For runes as Xin Zhao I recommend Attack speed because of his passive and to increase the rate of the passive extra damage from the . I also recommend the armor penetration just for that bit of extra damage on the enemys.

Is a pretty powerful skill but should only be used around low or full health opponents due to its set amount of damage out put on low health targets and its current health damage on fuller health enemy's.

Once you obtain your you should immediately begin farming so you can max out the bonus at 60+(40) Attack Damage and 25+(10%) Life Steal.

For boots i suggest for obvious reasons the movement speed and also the attack speed.
I strongly recommend getting the for the insane amount of attack speed, bonus damage every 4th hit, and it's unique active.
The is excellent in the fact that it increases your damage output greatly while increasing Xin Zhaos life steal. It is extremely helpful if you can manage to keep the bonus's from your up your survivability rate will stay higher.
The is a must have for Xin Zhao for excellent attack speed, crit chance, and the bonus move speed (it is extremely helpful in perusing fleeing enemy champions)
A great item for Xin Zhao is the giving you 700 health and 20 Attack Damage, Also the unique passive which on hit slow your targets movement speed for 2.5 seconds.
Lastly i suggest the because at the end game with this build your attack speed will be 2.5 and with that and your Attack Damage and the 4% each hit from the your will be a force to be reckoned with.
