Introduction
Hello — I’m Yunfang, Master ADC player. This guide covers the two strongest Varus archetypes:
• Lethality Varus (Comet)
• AD On-Hit & AP On-Hit Varus (Lethal Tempo)

Varus is versatile — poke, burst, or front-to-back DPS depending on your build. This guide is compact but highly optimized for climbing in solo queue.

Runes

Lethality Varus

Arcane Comet — Best rune for poke Varus. Synergizes with long-range Q, constant chip damage, and lane control. Very reliable for snowballing lane or setting up objective poke.

AD / AP On-Hit Varus

Lethal Tempo — Core rune for both AD and AP on-hit builds. Maximizes DPS output, applies Blight stacks extremely fast, and dominates extended fights and front-to-back teamfights.

Summoner Spells

	Flash + Barrier — General spell combo. Perfect when laning phase is your win condition and you are not facing heavy CC or assassin dive comps. Barrier gives high value in lethal early trades.
	Flash + Ghost — Mobility-based option. Useful for dodging skillshots and extended fights. Ideal when post-laning phase teamfights will decide the game.
	Flash + Exhaust — Anti all-in/burst option. Take this vs high-trading all-in bot lanes (e.g., Lucian + Nami). Also strong into assassin-heavy comps. Avoid vs poke lanes you can't walk into (e.g., Jinx + Sera).
	Flash + Cleanse — Required vs heavy CC. Extremely strong vs stuns, roots, slows, polymorph, Ignite, Exhaust. Lets you play aggressively in lanes with cleansable CC. (Does NOT remove airborne, nearsight, suppression.)

Lethality Varus:
Max: Q → E → W
High poke, wave control, and one-shot potential.

AD / AP On-Hit Varus:
Max: W → Q → E
W max gives the fastest Blight application and strongest sustained DPS.

	Starting Items for ALL builds Doran's Blade + Health Potion
	Lethality Build (Comet) Tear of the Goddess → Serrated Dirk → Youmuu's Ghostblade → Manamune Choose 1 of: Serylda's Grudge • Serpent's Fang • Edge of Night • Executioner's Calling But make sure to go serylda's grudge Serylda's Grudge at some point in build. Only get executioner's Executioner's Calling if you need it vs. threat enemy healing champs like e.g Zac, Soraka, Aatrox, Draven w/ Bloodthirster. Situational 5th: Guardian Angel • Maw of Malmortius • Mercurial Scimitar
	AD On-Hit Build (Lethal Tempo) Blade of the Ruined King → Guinsoo's Rageblade → Terminus / Wit's End → Jak'Sho, The Protean → Guardian Angel Magic resistance defensive item options: Maw of Malmortius • Mercurial Scimitar Buy if needed instead of GA (e.g if it's on a 5-minute cooldown and you have enough gold to sell it and buy one of these items): - Maw if you are against a threat AP champ with minimal CC but lots of AP (e.g Akali); - Mercurial Scimitar if you are against 1 or more threat champion that CCs you (e.g Leona) and can be used for the movement speed when fully built. Late game Cleanse may need to be paired with this item as enemy cooldown ults will be low and you need to bait them.
	AP On-Hit Build (Lethal Tempo) Nashor's Tooth → Berserker's Greaves → Shadowflame → Rabadon's Deathcap → Void Staff → Zhonya's Hourglass (Last 3 can be swapped based on enemy MR/threats.)

Gameplay — Phase Guide

Early Game
• Lethality: poke with Q, control wave, chip enemies down.
• On-hit: short burst trades with AA → AA → E to proc Blight.
• Maintain safe spacing — you're immobile.

Mid Game
• Lethality: play around Q poke before every objective.
• AD/AP on-hit: group with your team; melt frontline in extended fights.

Late Game
• Peel for yourself — you have no dash.
• Your R creates game-winning picks.
• All builds can carry if allowed to free-hit.

• R → Q is guaranteed setup damage with triple Blight.
• E reduces healing — huge vs sustain lanes.
• Q damage increases with distance + charge time.
• You can Flash during Q charge to reposition the shot.
• AP Varus deals the highest %HP damage over time of all ADCs.
• On-hit builds excel in extended fights — don’t overcommit early.
