I've already voted and commented on this guide but I figured I'd come back and leave another one as context for my commendation. Your visual style is always dazzling -- not only the graphics, but the arrangement of text, headers and images. You don't get lazy and repetitive with the formatting and I feel like I'm always in for a pleasant surprise as I scroll down. I also appreciate how receptive you are to criticism, as it's tough to take constructive or even negative comments in stride.

I hope you continue to update and iterate on this guide in the future! Cheers.

...Could you change runes as well in your next update, since Approach Velocity is really not that useful, what should a Taric do after landing E btw other options are way too good to pass;
even Sorcery tree is out of meta now; the strongest second tree seem like Precision with it's Presence of Mind; to basically explain if you weren't already aware of the things goin', it basically refunds mana for 7 seconds (Rito buffed this rune) after getting a champion takedown, assist or level-up, which saves around 5-20k mana per match if used well.

...Even if it wasn't for that meta, alone Approach Velocity seems wasted, if Glacial Augment was in the operation too then that could be acceptable, also Legend: Tenacity helps with CC'es, since Celerity is nerfed, now it's no more a high priority tree as once it was for Taric; few examples can be given about that, spamming Starlight's Touch through dozens of secs with only around 150 mana is technically possible, especially in-early lane game Taric is one of the best users of Presence of Mind rune, in lane you basically hit level 4 and spam your Q few times to heal around 600 with no mana cost at all, since spent mana is going to be refunded in mere secs which helps with retaking a fallen back lane ^^, I'm also myself is a support main who played Taric many times, I thought that I should perhaps write a guide but it consumes time as you know and needs some serious effort, all guides tha- but no they are nowehere near the strongest meta?

...Perhaps you could update the guide so new players may not go with wrongy runes, sorry that post now looks a bit peremptory but you'll probably get the point, since not even single guide I've seen didn't mention that I guess, I wrote it at +04:00 AM so sorry for weird things... :<

You have some very good points, especially about Presence of Mind. I'll try the runes out and consider adding them to the guide. Thank you for the suggestions. :)

Always a pleasure reading your guides. Don't forget to move your spawn timers 10 seconds earlier.

Good one. Could use a bit more sion inside of the matchups but sion supp is kinda rare so.. but it would be at medium like.... 4 points?

Yeah, he falls right around there. His main strengths in the matchup are his tankiness and his poke, but you can counter pretty much any engage of his with Cosmic Radiance since he's so telegraphed.

Hello, Thank you for guide
I have 2 questions for you regarding Taric

1) I have recently tried this Champ on free pick and after 2 games I immediately bought him for my support pool. I see his very good potential in disengage, but to be honest I bought him only for certain situations that I feel like I need Taric. The issue I face, I am not quite sure in what exactly enemy comp he would fit WELL against.
What exactly the enemy comp/draft should be ? Like he would be good if enemy has 3 or more tanks ? Or enemy has 3 or more carries with engager ? I can't understand agsinst what enemy comp I should use him.

2) Don't you find Stoneborn Pact good for Taric ? As far as I get everytime you stun enemy you and your ally get the effect of it, and if you get the effect your adc get Ardent Censer proc ?

Hey, glad you enjoyed the guide. :)

1) The team comps that Taric has trouble with are ones with lots of mobility and poke. For instance, if you see a team of Lulu, Caitlyn, Xerath, Nidalee, and Jayce, you should pick someone else because you'll get kited the whole game.

Besides that, Taric works well pretty much anywhere. He excels versus burst comps because of his ultimate, and he also fits versus tanky teams because Bravado makes him thrive in long fights.

2) Windspeaker's is better overall. Stoneborn's healing isn't very reliable since you have to wait on your stun's cooldown for it to be effective. Windspeaker's, however, is always active, so you'll get a lot more usage out of it.

Regarding Ardent Censer, you can proc it almost anytime with Q or W, so you don't need to rely on Stoneborn to apply it for you.

Thank you, I will revise my masteries, as I am still having doubts in tankiness vs better shield+heal.

I got another question on match up:

"For Leona, hard engages are a way of life, but unfortunately for her, you're equipped to counter them. If she dashes towards your ADC with Zenith Blade, pair up with Bastion then walk up to the enemy ADC, firing Dazzles on the both of them."
This is kinda stupid question, that I don't think can be answered without specifics.
Bus If I can't Dazzle on both of them should I dazzle adc or Leona ? I think I won't dazzle Ez, Cait, Luc or any mobility champs, as they simply dodge it and go into your adc. But if it is not mobility champs (or they wasted their mobility cast) do I go into adc ? From my experience Leona deals a good damage, but according to retaliation trade I should always go into adc.

wouldn't it be better if i got ardent and redemption earlier, like first and second item just like most supports do?

Building those early works if your team has another tank since you'll be squishy in the early game. Also consider whether you're up against enemies with burst damage, in which case damage mitigation (Locket/Knight's Vow) is more necessary than healing.

If you want to play a pure healer, you should consider Janna or Soraka. They can rush Ardent/Redemption more safely than Taric, who needs to get into melee range to do his best work.

Thanks a lot for that guide, i was stuck with full armor taric's builds, too much situationnal...
I have a question about your core itemization order:
As you advice, i build first equinox, then up the boots, then vow, then solari, and finally ardent. If there is much ap i go solari before vow.
My question is about ardent: some mates, often adc, urge me to build it as first item, is it legit to sometimes change that core order? is it a mistake to keep almost all games in order equinox-vow-solari-ardent?
Thanks again!

I'm glad you found the guide helpful! It's fine to go Ardent first, but only when your team has a tanky frontline. That way, you can focus on healing and there will still be someone around to soak up damage. (You'll be too frail to both heal AND protect with only an Ardent.) If everything works out well, you can even pick up a Redemption immediately after, effectively becoming a big buff Soraka.

Why you choose Eye of the Equinox instead of Face of the Mountain? I'm not criticizing, I just wanna know your reasons. I'm a low elo player and I want to learn things that aren't that clear to me. I always do Face of the Mountain and choose Ruby Sightstone as it's passive allows me to use the items actives more often. Do you have any reasons to choose it instead of Face of the Mountain?

Eye of the Equinox is very efficient, both on your wallet and your inventory space. With it, you get to upgrade all your support essentials (health, CDR, wards, minion execute) for only 650g rather than the 2150g you would spend on FOTM & RSS. That 1500g difference puts you over halfway towards your first core item. Having Locket of the Iron Solari or Knight's Vow available about 5 minutes earlier than usual will give you a huge edge in teamfights.

I find Face of the Mountain to be lackluster on Taric. He already has a shield as an ability, so you won't miss out on much by forgoing the item. As for Ruby Sightstone, its passive doesn't justify the slot it takes up. By not buying it, you can fit a whole nother item into your lategame build, such as Redemption or Randuin's Omen, and consequently end up much more powerful.

Hey, have you tried Zeke's convergeance on Taric? Do you think it's better than Knight's Vow? Since it increases your adc's damage by 50% as magic damage and also slows enemies around you after you ult.

I have and it's not great. The item synergizes best with offensive ultimates while Taric's ult is most often used defensively. Also, he can't utilize the slow well since he's immobile, and his best work is done near the backline anyways. For a better offensive item, Ardent Censer is the way to go since Taric and his teammates can make use of all its aspects.

Okay, thanks for replying : )
Uh, I have a question. If you're against AP supports (brand in particular) what do you do? Cause I had a match against him, tried just going at him with stuns, which did great and brough his hp low, but lost the fight and died. Should I just camp at my tower and focus on healing or shielding the adc?

Question, whenever I play Taric I have massive mana issues due to the mana cost on his Q, and having mana regen is just too slow. Because of this I've tried getting Righteous Glory and Iceborn Gauntlet/Frozen Heart, but I've actually had the best results with going Tear of the Goddess into Archangel's staff. I find it give the mana needed to stay in combat and the AP makes him heal for like 300-450 every 2 seconds.

My question is, how do you handle not buying mana items?
1
[-]
L3gislacerator (15) | August 4, 2017 10:59am
I leave Q at 3 points and max it second so that I can get a medium-power heal for only 90 mana. Even though it's not maxed, it's still very strong given how spammable it is.

If you max Q first, you're better off playing and building like a pure enchanter. Since the spell will be expensive, you can't spam it as easily as you can with less points into it because not only will it run you dry but you won't be making full use of it that way. Cast it at 4-5 charges whenever possible, space your casts out by a few seconds, and only use it when your allies are hurt for more than 200 health.

If you preserve mana with the tips I gave above, you shouldn't need items with raw mana. Regardless, it's better to get supportive items so you can help out your team more. (I've never tried Archangel's Staff on Taric, but it sounds like it would work well in an enchanter build.)

I think it works very well, the only problem is his kit forces you to be on the front line which I find requires you to be a full tank, not just a half-***ed support tank. So items like Redemption arent viable because of the low stats. Locket hurts but is necessary because of the insane delay on his ult. So trying to balance health, mana, armor, mr, cdr while still getting vision and 'support' items, can be challenging.

Another WOW here! Thats all I'm going to say - this coming from a 3/4 million mastery point Taric main!
Well, I do want to chime in on masteries....I actually go 0/18/12 when I am not the tank of the team but when I am the tank I go 0/12/18 (stoneborn keystone). Nothing can replace that early extra 5% health (it makes every health item you buy have 5% extra health!) plus it does synergyze with Ardent Censer (one of my fav items on Taric) He desperately needs the mana regen too!
Also, I have to throw this out there....like I said I have extensive experience with Taric...I ALWAYS run GHOST/EXHAUST. Ghost has a 3 minute cd while flash has a 5 minute cd! 5 minutes!! Ghost lets me get to other lanes faster AND when we get friendly ganks bot it lets me run down fleeing foes! It may not be for everyone but I DO NOT MISS FLASH AT ALL!

I LOVE YOUR GUIDE!!!

Thank you very much! I'm glad you like my stance on playing Taric.

I find it hard to replace Windspeaker's Blessing if I have any frail allies due to how high it can make their defenses, but I'd consider Stoneborn Pact if they have other ways to stay safe besides me. As for Ghost, I can see its usage against immobile enemies. However, Taric is already pretty telegraphed as he is, so against quicker targets like Lucian, I prefer to carry Flash so I can catch them as soon as they're vulnerable.

Wow! This guide is so comprehensive! I just started in making guides, and I'm in awe on how well it is formatted! I'm not even a Taric player and I feel like I could climb to gold with this (I actually play Kindred and Tahm Kench). Well done!
