Master Yi Jungle / Top Guide
Hello! This is my first GUIDE on MobaFire. I've made this because I see the Master Yi guides are lacking in updates and upcoming Yi mains have a tough time getting the basics. I'm a League of Legends veteran, playing since Season 2 where I was Bronze, all the way to my current peak at Diamond 5 using the Hail of Blades build in my last promo game. |
Predator Surprisingly strong. Very good for crit Yi especially early game to rack up the lead. Nobody expects the damage. Sudden Impact We get this off very easily and it is good for bursting squishies and fighting tanks Eyeball Collection Another easy way to build a big lead early. Collect eyeballs by getting kills or destroying wards. Ingenious Hunter We need this. Grants permanent CDR on Predator active. Triumph I can't count how many times this rune has saved me. You gain the health from it almost instantly and it also provides a little gold to snowball you even further. Legend: Bloodline We have enough attack speed. What we lack in early skirmishes is survivability. |
Crit Build |
Guinsoo's Build |
Ninja Tabi > Basic Attack Mitigation These boots are GREAT in Season 7. I pick these in 90% of my games. It tanks much of your damage from jungle camps and effectively mitigates 12% of the enemy AD's damage. Mercury's Treads > Tenacity I would get this against long CC champions, but not champions that can burst you. If you are being bursted by AP CC champions, Mercurial Scimitar would be greatly more beneficial, being that it removes your status effect and gives you the chance to escape. Mercury's Treads is more for Amumu ults or Lulu polymorphs. Do not buy this against Ahri, Annie, etc. Get Mercurial Scimitar for their CC. |
The Bloodthirster It gives nice raw AD and good lifesteal. The passive is good to absorb some damage. It would be most beneficial to charge up your shield before fighting. |
The Black Cleaver This can be a very strong item on Yi, paired with attack speed. The passive enables great chasing and armor shred. You'll be able to 1v1 any tank with this and Blade of the Ruined King. |
Infinity Edge This item gives a lot of raw AD and nice crit chance. It is best paired with high attack speed and attack damage such as Phantom Dancer and Bloodthirster. |
Statikk Shiv I like this item a lot. The passive gives good waveclear and if it crits it can give you nice one shots on enemies. Good when paired with Phantom Dancer and Infinity Edge. |
You take Highlander whenever you can. Max Alpha Strike first to maximize clear speed. Then we max Wuju Style to again increase clear speed and maximize dueling potential. Meditate is maxed last due to us only using it to sometimes to auto reset and get charges on our passive. |
-
Double Strike: This is a core part of Master Yi's kit. It allows for him to reset his Q faster, effectively add another attack that applies on-hit effects, and makes his clears and ueling exponentially greater.
-
Alpha Strike (Q): This can be considered the bread of Master Yi. (The butter comes later) When used effectively, you can dodge game-changing abilities such as Requiem or Glacial Prison for example. In teamfights, if this skill is not on cooldown, you're probably doing something wrong. With that said, you don't want to just use this whenever it's up. Whenever possible, reap the most out of your intargetability.
-
Meditate (W): You can use to recover health in the jungle/lane. If timed correctly, using this immediately after Double Strike gives you an auto reset. Take note that the lower health you are when you use this, the more health you recover, so if you plan on using it to heal, use it earlier.
-
Wuju Style (E): Add true damage to your attacks. Paired with attack speed and armor shred items, this can be godly to melt tanks.
- Highlander (R): The butter of Master Yi. Teamfight? Use this. Skirmish? Use this. Soloing Baron? Use this. You basically use this whenever you are fighting because it will effectively multiply your damage by giving you more attack speed therefore giving you more Double Strikes which gives you more Alpha Strikes.
Flash:Great for escaping or catching up to enemies. Can also be used to dodge skillshots. |
Smite:Core on any jungler. Enables your jungle item upgrades. Take this when you jungle. |
Ignite:Great for snowballing lane. You should be aiming for FB when bringing this. |
Teleport: An option for top laners. Use this if you enjoy roaming. Can also be taken instead of flash when jungling. |
Exhaust: Can also be take instead of ignite when laning and flash when jungling. Improves ganks and can negate a carry's presence in fights. |
Master Yi is a very good champion in every meta imo. Due to the versatility of his builds, he can be used for many roles. He is prevalent from low elo to high elo, as Cowsep is Diamond on multiple accounts in the Korean server. If you decide to use this guide, please leave a comment and a vote so I can know how I can better improve anyone's experience. Have fun climbing the ELO ladder! |
