Not Updated For Current Season

Since I started playing LOL again I have always played support characters. I never minded having the high assists. Once Sona came out I was pumped to try her. Since then I have found a build that makes not only a support Sona but also a fighter. With this build you are able to solo a lane if needed, take out other champs 1v1 and sometimes even 1v2.
Game Start Items:
Always go with the Mana Manipulator if gives just as much Regen as the Meki and gets you one step closer to getting the Innervating Locket.
As soon as you can after start get the Catalyst Protector then the Innervating Locket. This will help you regen mana and health each time you use your auras. Now it does have a cool down for the effect but early game it can mean the difference in a fight or gank.
The next time I try to get early are the Mercury Treads. A lot of people seem to argue that Sona doesn't need boots but to them I say Ha! Sona is a very squishy character and the ability to run faster and get rid of status effects quicker is an invaluable ability. Also it will help you get to a tower faster if someone needs some support.
Archangle's Staff is a no brainier. It gives you mana and high ap. Also good for Sona because each spell she uses will increase her total. With this I usually cycle through my spells (Except Crescendo) as often as possible to get my max mana to its fullest as fast as possible.
The next three can be bought at your discretion. I like to go Void first for the magic penetration and high ap boost. Deathfire Grasp next for the its Active ability and cool down. And lastly I get Zhonya's Ring if the game goes long enough.
A lot of people will start Sona with healing or speed. To me that seems a bit pointless. Yes the healing can help out a champion in the beginning rush but I find it better to have the attack ability Hymn of Valor to back up your fellow champion and keep the heal spell to if they need life.
From there get one of each. Aria of Perseverance then song of Celerity.
Perseverance is great for healing fellow champs and Celerity is great for making a quick get away or a sprinted run to grab a gank.
Once you get to level 6 get Crescendo. It is great because it will give your champ at least 1 or two extra hits against a enemy champion. It is even better when they go for a run near your tower you can use this and have the tower get in between 2 and 3 blasts at an opponent.
