Morgana
My perma-ban. Galio's nightmare in any role. Black Shield completely blanks your W/R and turns every engage into suicide if you E in without it down. Play slow, bait Shield, and only ever commit after she uses E (on poke or to block your ADC's CC). Use Q to chip her and the enemy ADC.

Samira
God-tier. Your W/R give her constant CC. Simple combo: you E+W-taunt, she dashes in, stacks style instantly off your CC, then R's over your knockup/taunt. Tank Galio lets her greed positioning; AP Galio lets you one-shot people together.

Champion Build Guide
Colossus in the Bot Lane - A Support Galio Guide
Galio is supposed to sit in midlane, glaring at enemy mages and laughing at their spell rotations.
We are not doing that.
This guide is about Galio as a support: a roaming, CC-layering frontline that turns bot lane into a springboard for the rest of the map. You are not a worse Leona or a confused midlaner. You are a tank that loves magic damage, a hard engage that can also peel, and a global safety net for teammates who get excited and go too deep.
If you like being everywhere at once, punishing squishy supports, and turning every fight into a 3-second vortex of taunts and knockups, this is your champion.
Galio Support Identity - What You Actually Do
Galio as a support provides three extremely valuable things:
1. AOE hard CC
- E (Justice Punch) to start fights or reposition
- W (Shield of Durand) for a massive taunt
- R (Hero's Entrance) for long-range knockup and teamwide magic shield
2. Natural durability vs AP poke
W gives a scaling magic damage shield and bonus resistances. Combined with Resolve runes and Celestial Opposition, you become extremely hard to move in lanes dominated by AP supports.
3. Wave control and early shove
Q and Passive let you thin or clear waves quickly. This creates windows to roam, ward, and support other lanes.
Support Galio's job is simple:
Push when safe. Survive when pressured. Roam earlier and harder than the enemy support.
Then appear in every fight with more CC than they can realistically react to.
Two Playstyles: Tank and AP/Poke
1. Tank Galio (Default Build)
Runes: Resolve / Inspiration
- Aftershock
- Shield Bash
- Conditioning
- Overgrowth
Secondary: Biscuit Delivery + Jack of all Trades
Summoners: Flash + Heal
Core Items:
1. Celestial Opposition
2. Locket of the Iron Solari
3. Thornmail
4. Frozen Heart
5. Abyssal Mask
6. Randuin's Omen
Why it works:
Tank Galio turns every taunt into a moment of near-invulnerability thanks to Aftershock and your itemization. Celestial Opposition lets you dive aggressively, survive the return damage, and punish anyone who chases. You are the front line and the emergency peel button all in one.
Tank Galio Laning Pattern:
- Walk up with W charging to absorb poke or bait cooldowns.
- Use Q + passive auto to thin waves and set up controlled pushes.
- Look for all-in E engages only when enemy CC is down or your jungler is present.
- When losing lane vs poke, do not fight. Use W shield to soak damage, farm XP, and set up later roams.
Teamfight Role:
Decide early whether you are engaging or peeling.
- Engage: E in from a flank, W taunt, use Locket as the burst starts, then R to extend CC across the fight.
- Peel: R on your carry when divers jump, taunt off-targets, and let your carries free fire.
2. AP / Poke Galio (Situational Build)
This page is used when the enemy bot lane is squishy, low CC, or easily burstable, AND your team already has another frontline.
Runes: Domination / Sorcery
- Sudden Impact
- Grisly Mementos
- Relentless Hunter
Secondary: Nimbus Cloak + Scorch
Summoners: Flash + Ignite
Core Items:
1. Celestial Opposition
2. Dark Seal
3. Stormsurge
4. Zhonya's Hourglass
5. Morellonomicon
6. Rylai's Crystal Scepter
Why it works:
AP Galio turns lane into a burst war instead of a tank standoff. Q poke, E engagements, and Ignite all stack together to create lethal early fights that snowball quickly. You are not the main tank anymore. You are the first burst and then a Zhonya statue while your team finishes the kill.
AP Galio Laning Pattern:
- Constant poke with Q.
- Step forward for short passive autos when safe.
- Look for E + Ignite any time the enemy mispositions.
- Once you get Stormsurge, your combos delete squishy supports in one rotation.
Teamfight Role:
Play like an off-tank assassin.
Engage with E, taunt, burst, then Zhonya while your R lands to disrupt the enemy team.
Laning Phase - How To Actually Play Bot
Levels 1-3
Level 1: Use Q and passive autos to control the first wave.
Level 2: This is your real threat spike.
- Tank Galio: Look for E into quick W if your ADC can follow up.
- AP Galio: Q poke until someone is around 60 percent HP, then E + Ignite to kill.
If the enemy outranges or zones you (Morgana, Brand, Zyra, Senna), your early job is survival:
- Stay in XP range, not trading range.
- Use W shield to mitigate poke.
- Thin wave with Q only when safe.
- Ping jungler early. These lanes are volatile, but also very gankable.
Vision and Roaming
Support Galio is one of the best roamers in the role.
Your process:
1. Shove wave with Q + passive.
2. Drop defensive wards for your ADC.
3. Move into river, midlane, or enemy jungle.
4. Use R to swing skirmishes anywhere on the map.
If your ADC is self-sufficient (Ezreal, Caitlyn, Xayah), you can roam more aggressively.
If your ADC is fragile (Jinx, Kog, Smolder), roam only on wave crashes and keep R ready to bail them out.
Mid and Late Game Teamfighting
Engage or Peel?
Do not decide this in the middle of a fight. Decide before objectives spawn.
You are Engage Galio if:
- Your team has reliable follow-up damage.
- Your ADC is not the only win condition.
You are Peel Galio if:
- Your ADC is the core carry.
- Enemy team has multiple divers or assassins.
Engage Pattern:
Flank -> E -> W taunt -> Locket -> Q autos -> R to re-engage
Peel Pattern:
Stand near carry -> Wait for diver dash -> W taunt -> E to push them away -> R on your carry
Combo Cheat Sheet
Basic Trade (Tank):
Q -> passive auto -> step back
All-In (Tank):
E -> start W immediately -> Flash mid-charge if needed -> taunt -> Q + autos
All-In (AP):
Q -> E -> W short charge -> Ignite -> R if needed -> Zhonya
Defensive Peel:
W charge as enemy lands -> taunt -> E them off your carry -> R to reinforce your position
When Not To Pick Galio Support
Avoid picking Galio support when:
- Your team has no damage and desperately needs an enchanter or mage support.
- Enemy early picks include multiple anti-Galio supports like Morgana and Senna combined.
- Your comp has no follow-up to your CC and you would become a walking taunt bot with no carry to protect.
Pick Galio when you have:
- Aggressive ADCs who love diving with you.
- Another frontline so you can flex tank or AP.
- Enemies who rely heavily on AP poke or predictable skillshots.
Final Thoughts
Galio support is a disruptive, map-wide presence that punishes squishy supports and protects scaling carries.
Play patient in bad lanes, dominate in good ones, roam constantly, and use your CC and durability to decide every fight. When played well, Galio turns bot lane into a staging ground for the rest of the match, letting you carry your team through consistency, utility, and overwhelming crowd control.
Go bring justice to bot lane. Or at least, a very large stone fist.
