I used to run sorcery or inspiration before but like you said, I think that the domination tree has way more to offer.

Thanks for your comment and continue to dominate the rift with Tahm !

What do you like about Domination more than Inspiration?

Personally, I find myself needing more speed in a lot of situations where I could have secured a kill for the team, but they managed to get away because I just couldn't keep up, so I've been trying out Magical Boots and Inspiration as my secondaries

Haha !Can't believe you are the first one to tell me :o

I will update that as soon as possible. My traditionnal start is usually 3 potions. I am not a fan of Refilable potions.

Thanks !

it might be a mistake, but... in the second build (the one on the right) I noticed you use ghost and exhaust, was that a mistake?

Great guide nonetheless :) Keep the good work

It's not a mistake, but I admit it seems strange at first glance. However, the idea is to use Ghost just before devouring the enemy. So, with Phase Rush + Ghost, it is possible to run at a funny ridiculous speed to bring the enemy under our turret.

It's a build I used when I played Tahm Kench mid or to have some fun with my friends in normal games as support. If you are looking for a more aggressive build, I recommend you read the comment below about a runeset that uses Hail of Blades.

Exhaust is usefull in close combat with the enemy in order to devour him or simply block ADC damage. With this build, it is pretty easy to 1v1 of any ADC, although it is much more a build for fun than for performance or climbing the ladder.

Thanks for your comment and good game:)

Hi! Just wondering what you thought about the newest Domination keystone, Hail of Blades, on Tahm Kench in general? Only asking because I recently played against a Tahm Kench who took it and didn't really know what to expect. I can see it being used to proc his passive quickly and that's pretty scary. But yeah, what do you think? Would it even be worth taking Domination primary for the keystone? Thanks!

Hi!

I'm just testing some rune sets including Hail of Blades. I think it's the default rune to play Tahm Kench as a toplaner. However, I am analyzing some statistics to see if this should be used as a support as well.

Here's the set I'm testing right now:

Hail of Blades
Cheap shot
Zombie Ward
Ingenious Hunter

(Precision Tree)
Triumph
Legend: Alacrity
OR
(Resolve Tree)
Bone Plating
Second Wind

I prefer Precision Tree as long as the enemy support is not too aggressive. For items, I think you need a minimum of one attack speed object to optimize everything. For the moment, I prefer to use Berseker Graves boots rather than Trinity because of its high cost!

Ah, thanks! Yeah, I forgot to specify that the Tahm Kench I played against with Hail of Blades was a Tahm toplane and not support. But that seems like a really interesting idea of a support build as well, especially with the Precision secondary when most people probably just consider Tahm an entirely tanky support with Resolve. Thank you for the fast reply! :o

Nice guide, pretty thorough!
I like the chapter about skill sequence a lot!
You really gave some good thoughts and depth into the how and why of leveling your skills on one of my favorite champions in the game.

Good job and keep writing!

I just noticed one thing you might want to update! ^^
In the notes of your build example you talk about buying ruby sightstone for the increased cooldown reduction on items.
But sadly this item has been removed a few patches ago, RIP :(!

Just wanted to let you know! ^^

Some people seem to like to build Berserker's Greaves on Tahm Kench. Have you tried it? What is your opinion on it?

Urf Kench (4) | March 21, 2018 4:48pm
I agree that attack speed is really good on Tahm Kench. I used to run 25% attack speed runes last season. BUT, I really think that Tabi's and Mercs are way to important to even consider Berserker's Greaves.

However, I am looking forward Patch 8.6 to test new runes builds, especially in the precision tree.

Hi, first of all, thanks for sharing your experience with us :), I want to ask you something: do you know if tahm "e" healing, when you don't activate it, procs with revitalize rune, giving him a 5% to 10%(if lower than 40% hp) more healing? i've been using this rune but couldn't validate this. Maybe I'm wasting this rune, but in the only match I played without revitalize I didn't felt the same sustain I got from it... Bye and thanks again.

Hey ! Thanks for your comment

I personally prefer Overgrowth or Unflinching so I cannot confirm for sure that Revitalize is working but, I've seen some pro's using it. So my guess would be yes, but I'm really not convinced.

See ya :)

Hi Urf Kench! So I saw that Tahm Kench is comming to Free Champion Rotation tomorrow and I wanted to play him because my friend told me I'm pretty good at Support comapred to other Lanes (if you just see my K/D/A you will tell me to stop playing LoL). Is Tahm Kench good for Support beginners or no. Why or Why Not. Your Guide is Really Good BtW.

First of all, I would never tell you to stop playing LoL because of your KDA. We all have to learn at some point. I started myself in season 5 and everyone was telling me I would never climb higher than silver. I peaked Gold my first season, Plat 3 my second season and P1 last season. So trust yourself and give yourself time to learn the game.

Support is, in my opinion, a different playstyle than any other lanes because you need to focus on the macro play(objectives, lategame, etc.) instead of micro play (mechanics, cs'ing, etc.). In fact, I play jungle and support because they both have a lot of similiaties.

To answer your question, I consider Tahm Kench a high skill cap support but relatively easy for begginers. Let me explain:

1) Tahm Kench Q (Tongue Lash) is the only skillshot base ability of his kit. So you do not rely on landing a full combo to be efficient.

2) You can define your own playstyle with Tahm Kench. Your first time, I strongly recommand you to play passive and peel your ADC as much as possible. Try to avoid using W (Devour) aggressively on ennemies. Keep it up for your carry as much as possible. Same for you ult, use it to roam and return to lane faster.

3) After a while, you will feel confident and you will be able to afford a more aggressive gameplay and exotic uses of your W and Ult.

4) Be ready to make mistakes. Your W (Devour) has a big impact on a game and you will probably eat a minion instead of your carry by mistake (Still happening after 900K masteries points I swear). Same for your ult, you will learn to recognise good opportunities.

Finally, keep learning and trust yourself. After all, League is a complex game !

Good luck and most importantly, have fun :)

I have a question... How do you buy boots with Magical Footwear?
1
[-]
Urf Kench (4) | January 12, 2018 6:48am
You can upgrade your boots after you obtained Magical Footwear (usually at 10 min mark).
You can find them in the shop, just like usual. The only difference will be the fact that their price gonna be reduced.
