Vayne's Story

The world is not always as civilized as people might think. There are still those who would follow the blackest paths of magic and become corrupted by the darker powers that flow through Runeterra. Shauna Vayne knows this fact well. As a young privileged girl in the heart of Demacia's elite, her father tried to convince her of the constabulary's ever-vigilant eye. Young and naïve, she truly believed that her world was one of perfect safety, until one night, when a twisted witch took interest in her father. The malevolent woman overcame her father's conciliar guard, then tortured her family before murdering them. The young Shauna escaped only by hiding herself and then fleeing once the hag had departed, plagued by the screams of her loved ones as she ran. A burning hatred was born in her that day, one that could never be denied.

Vayne was able to take care of herself using her father's money, and she began to train as soon as an instructor would have her as a student. By the time she was a fully grown woman, she had become a grim warrior. However, the fields of battle were not to be her home. Demacia needed a protector, one who hunted those lost to the darkness. Shauna used her family's contacts to become the first Night Hunter, and now her prowess is the stuff of legends. It is said that those who practice the black arts quake when they hear that the Night Hunter is on the prowl. Despite her crusade, Shauna has looked at the League of Legends in horror. There are champions who have clearly lost themselves to the blackest of magics, and who have been embraced within the League even though they should be put down for the safety of all. The time has come for the Night Hunter to execute her secret mission – to purge the League of Legends.

Hello guys and girls of LoL!

I've been playing vayne for quite a while now. She's my number 1 champion. I haven't really found any valuable builds for Vayne yet. So I have decided to share my experience, and create a build for you guys! - This guide is for every1.
In this build we will take a close look on Vayne. I will recommend items, runes, masteries early, mid & late game etc. etc. - Let me know if anything is missing, or if you'd like me to add something! :)

Summoner Spells

Primary Summoner Spells:

Your champion ignores unit collision and moves 27% faster for 14 seconds.
Lets start by Ghost! Ghost is usually used to chase down an opponent summoner spell, but some people might say that Vayne dosen't need it because of her ulti and passive . Though she has increased movement speed while running towards an enemy, Night Hunter is only working when Vayne can actually see her opponent.
Ghost can also be used as a defensive summoner spell, while running away from one or several opponents. It has saved my life plenty of times.
With Trinity Force & Boots Vayne has roughly around 390 movement speed, which means ghost will equals to 390*0,27=105,3 increased movement speed! - 495,3 movement speed in total.

Teleports your champion to target nearby location.
Flash is one of the most useful summoner spells of all time! You can use flash to chase down an enemy, or as Vayne you can use it to get a sight of the opponent --> trigger Night hunter.
Flash can also be used defensively. You can flash in range of ur own turret into saftey, or flash through a wall to escape ur opponents. Flash CD (without mastery): 255 sec. Flash CD (With Mastery): 230 sec.

NOTE: You can flash through some walls

As a ranged dps Vayne cannot get too much mobility, and with Flash & Ghost I can achieve the highest possible mobility and speed.

Secondary Summoner Spells

After 4 seconds, teleports your champion to target friendly minion or turret.
Teleport is a great summoner spell, if you're soloing a 2v1 lane. At higher ranked play, you might have to lane against 2 opponents while you are all alone. If you know you're going to encounter the 2v1 situation, I would recommend teleport. It's a huge advantage to recall back to ur base, and teleport back to a turret / minion with full health, mana and new items, with minimum exp lost.
NOTE: You can also teleport to Shaco's, Jack in the box Teemo's Noxious Trap, Vision Ward & sight ward Sight Ward

Ignite is damage over time spell that targets a single champion, dealing 50 damage plus 25 damage per level over 5 seconds. Ignite ignores enemy Magic Resist, and reduces healing and regeneration by 50%.
For Vayne, Ignite is most powerful at low lvl. When you reach 10 +, it won't as useful, however it's you'll get some nice bonus true dmg for ur extra burst at low lvls. The reason for why it won't be just as usefull below lvl 10, is because Vayne dosen't need the bonuse dmg. Silver bolts, enough attack speed & armor pen are enough!

Exhausts target enemy champion, reducing movement speel by 40%, attack damage dealt by 70% and ability and item damage dealt b 35% for 3 seconds.
Exhaust is great if you'd like to increase your chances of winning in 1v1 or something similar to that. It dosen't really work out in big teamfights, since you cannot sort the opponent from another, so basiclly you'll just hit a random target (usually). Though it dosen't really work out in teamfights, you can save urself by exhasting an opponent. And Vayne got Tumble, Condemn & a lot of mobility, which means she dosen't really need the exhahust.

Not Recommended

Restores 160 + (lvl x 30) Mana to your champion and 50% of that to nearby allies. 600 Range.
Vayne does NOT need mana regen!!!

Restores 140 + (lvl x 20) Health to your Champion and 50% of that to nearby allies. 600 Range. All targets healed will have a 50% reduction in heal amount from other summoner heal spells for 20 secs.
A heal could be usefull in teamfights, but the other summoner spells are just better

[icon=revive size=32] Instantly revives your Champion at your Spawning Pool, increasing your movement speed by 225%, diminishing to normal over 12 seconds. 9 minute cooldown.
A ranged dps / Carry does NOT need Revive

Deals 420 + (lvl x 25) true damage to target enemy minion or pet. 800 Range.
Unless you'd like to jungle as Vayne, you shouldn't pick Smite

Removes all stuns, slows, taunts, fears, snares, sleeps, silences, blinds and immobilizers and reduces the duration of newer applied ones by 65% for 3 seconds.
Cleanse is useful in huge teamfights, if you're getting focused, but the other summoner spells are better
NOTE:Cleanse does not break WW's Infinite Duress and Malzahars Nether Grasp

Summons a beacon with 200 + (lvl x 25) Health for 15 seconds which increases allied Attack Damage by 10-35. 120 Range Cast, 850 Range Aura (estimate).
1. Vayne dosen't need the extra health 2. 10-35 AD (Attack Dmg) is not useful

Reveals an area of the map for 6 seconds (castable anywhere).
Clairvoyance is really great, but Vayne isn't the champ who should pick it. - A support like Taric should.

Vayne's Primary Runes

Greater Mark of Desolation Greater Quintessence of Desolation

Greater Mark of Desolation
Greater Mark of Desolation It's just Unbelieveable. Every mark gives u 1.66 + Armor Penetration. If u have saved all 9 spots for Greater Mark of Desolation, it equals to 14,94 Armor pen at lvl 1 (+ mastery armor pen; 3)! Vayne's main source of dmg is her basic attacks (and silver bolts), so basiclly if u get some armor pen her basic attacks will do more dmg.

NOTE: Armor Pen > Attack Speed Marks!

Greater Seal of Alacrity
As I told you before Vayne's main source of dmg is her basic attacks & silver bolts. If u stack up attack speed it will lead to frequent triggers of Silver Bolts, and Vayne will also shoot more frequent. If you save all 9 spots for Greater Seal of Alacrity it equals to 6,84 attack speed at lvl 1!

NOTE: Attack Speed > Attack Damage Seals!

Greater Glyph of Warding
If you have tried to play Vayne, then you'll know that she's a VERY squishy champion, and her insane dmg is not enough to take 5 opponents without dying first (You cannot do it though you've got armor and magic resist glyphs). With Magic resist glyphs you can survive for more time, without having to recall!

NOTE: Magic Resist = Armor Glyphs!

Greater Glyph of Resilience
If you have tried to play Vayne, then you'll know that she's a VERY squishy champion, and her insane dmg is not enough to take 5 opponents without dying first (You cannot do it though you've got armor and magic resist glyphs). With Magic resist glyphs you can survive for more time, without having to recall!

NOTE: Magic Resist = Armor Glyphs!

Greater Quintessence of Desolation
Greater Quintessence of Desolation Armor penetration for Vayne is better than AP (attack speed) and AD (Attack Damage), but there is a limit. If you have used all ur Marks and Quintessences for Armor pen you won't need anymore armor pen.

Vayne's Secondary Runes

Greater Mark of Alacrity
Attack speed marks is a great secondary choice for Vayne. If you fell like you don't have enough attack speed or you'd like to get the armor pen from items , I'd recommend this mark.

Greater seal of strength
Attack dmg is very valuable for Vayne. in the middle of the game, you'll notice that she will need some attack dmg [icon:B.F. Sword], I'm sure she's doing a great job, but... she's in lack of attack dmg. And in the early gaming, you can harras a lot, just by hitting opponents, because of Vayne's increased attack dmg.

If you cannot get enough of attack speed for Vayne, would be a great secondary choice. However too much attack speed, and too little armor pen will cause Vayne some troubles.

Greater Quintessence of Furor
Critical Strike is not great for Vayne, but on the other hand... it's not bad. Yes, Vayne will need crit, but I won't recommend it getting it through runes. - Instead u should rather get it through items

Okay! We've now reached the chapter: Masteries! ( Thanks if you've red this far <.< )

As Vayne I spec: 21/0/9. I will give you the reason for this spec, step by step.
1. Crit > AP (Ability Power) - 3/3 Deatliness & 1/3 Archmage's Savvy
2. Attack Speed > Coldown reduction - 4/4 Alacrity & 3/4 Sorcry
3. Armor pen > dmg to minions & improved ignite - 3/3 Sunder
4. Attack Dmg > nothing - 3/3 Brute Force
5. Bonus crit dmg > Improved Rally - 3/3 Lethality
6. increased dmg > nothing - 1/1 Havoc

1. Improved Ghost > hp & mana regen - 1/1 Haste & 3/3 Persverence
2. Improved exp pr. kill > Increased mana - 4/4 Awareness
3. Increased red & blue buff time > improved clarity, mana regen & gold - 1/2 Utility Master

The reason for why I've taken 3/3 sunder and 3/4 Sorcery, not 2/3 Sunder and 4/4 Sorcery, is because at the 4th point in sorcery the ability coldown will be reduced by 0.75% which equals to: Tumble 1,70*97=1,64= 0,06 sec difference. That's why I'd say 2 armor pen > 0,06 sec differnce. NOTE: 1,70 is the CD of tumble in sec's

Also don't go 21/9/0 since the armor and magic resist WON'T do any difference, and you will still die.

NOTE:If you've got any question, for why I choose as I did, just leave a comment! :)
NOTE: DON'T pick Archaic Knowledge, it dosen't make ANY difference.
NOTE: Utility > Defense - it dosen't make a great difference to go defense!

Night Hunter - Vayne ruthlessly hunts evil-doers. She gains 40 Movement Speed when moving toward nearby enemy champions.

Night Hunter is Vayne's passive. Night Hunter is really great for harrasing since the dmg from attack + tumble + attack = trigger silver bolts, is almost 100% Guaranteed because you have 40 increased movement speed when running towards an enemy champion! However Night hunter is ONLY working on opponents she can actually see! ( dosen't count if u can see them because of ur allies or minions )

Vayne tumbles a short distance and her next basic attack within 6/6/6/6/6 seconds deals bonus physical damage

Tumble is Vayne's first ability (Q). Basiclly Vayne Tumbles a shot distance, and her next attack will do increased dmg, but!... it also resets her shoot timer which means you can shot + tumble + shot = trigger silver bolts. Tumble is not only an offensive ability. You can use it to escape an enemy, or avoid an ability. example: casts an AoE ability which deals dmg to every1 standing on it, Vayne can Tumble out of it.
The bonus is equal to 55/60/65/70/75% of her total Attack Damage.
Cost40/40/40/40/40 Mana
NOTE: You cannot Tumble through walls.

Vayne tips her bolts with a rare metal, toxic to evil things. The third consecutive attack or ability against the same target deals a percentage of the target's maximum Health as bonus true damage. (Max: 200 damage vs. Monsters)

Silver Bolts is Vayne's second ability (W). Vayne's 3rd attack deals additional dmg. The fastest way to trigger silver bolts is by shot + tumble + shot = trigger silver bolts. Silver Bolts deals 8% true dmg which means Vayne with some armor pen, can rape a tank like or . Silver Bolts has the same range as basic attacks.

Vayne tips her bolts with a rare metal, toxic to evil things. The third consecutive attack or ability against the same target deals an additional 20/30/40/50/60 plus 4/5/6/7/8% of the target's maximum Health as true damage. (Max: 200 damage vs. Monsters)
Cost: Passive
Range: 10000

Vayne draws a heavy crossbow from her back, and fires a huge bolt at her target, dealing damage and knocking them back. If they collide with terrain, they are impaled, dealing bonus damage and stunning them.

Condemn is Vayne's third ability (E). can be used for both offensive & defensive purposes.
Offensiv: Vayne can use to several things. She can prevent an oppoenent from reaching turret range by knocking him away. Vayne can also stun an enemy by knocking him / her into a wall. - The target will take increased dmg, if knocked into a wall.
Defensive: Vayne can knock an enemy away from her, to increase the distance between them.
Vayne fires a huge bolt, dealing 50/90/130/170/210 (+) physical damage and knocking her target back.
If they collide with terrain they take 50/90/130/170/210 (+) additional physical damage and will be stunned for 1.5/1.5/1.5/1.5/1.5 seconds.
Cost 90/90/90/90/90 Mana
Range 575
NOTE: Condemn adds 1 stack of Silver Bolts

Readying herself for an epic confrontation, Vayne gains increased Attack Damage, stealth during Tumble, and quadruple the bonus Movement Speed from Night Hunter.

Final Hour is Vayne's 4th and last ability (R). Final Hour is used to greatly increase ur dmg, but you can also run away to saftey because of the buff to Tumble: Tumble now makes you stealth for 1.5 sec. It is also a lot easier to chase down enemies because of the buff to Night hunter: Night Hunters's movement speed has been greatly increased (quadraupled). Also when you pop Final Hour, you should have a great chance of rapping tanks!

For 8/10/12 seconds Vayne gains 35/55/75 Bonus Attack Damage, Tumbling grants Vayne stealth for 1.5/1.5/1.5 seconds, and the bonus Movement Speed from Night Hunter is quadrupled.
Cost 80/80/80 Mana
Range 1

Early Game

Since Vayne is a squishy champion, I recommend Doran's Blade. Doran's Blade will cost all of ur 475 gold, so you cannot support it with a health potion. Doran's Blade has 3% lifesteal, which it's why it's sooo good. 1st time u recall I suggest u buy another Doran's Blade or Sheen. Sheens passive is fits in really nicely for Vayne. After you've bought another Doran's Blade or Sheen, you should buy Boots of speed, and later turn it into ionian boots of lucidity.

NOTE: In case ur opponents are AP champions, you should reconsider to skip the second Doran's blade, and buy catalyst the protector catalyst the protector, which u can upgrade to banhee's veil Banhee's veil later on.

NOTE: Buying Health potions early in game, is a must! Without any of them, you won't be able to harras as much, and you'll have to watch the fights instead of particpating, getting assists & kills. + You can stay in ur lane for a longer time.

Core Items

Sight Ward

Boots of speed. If you haven't upgraded them yet, I'll take a closer look at which you should choise, in the next session.

Sheen is a really valuable item for Vayne, so I'd recommond you to buy it - even if you're not going to upgrade to a trinity force as the 1st or 2nd item!

B. F. Sword is a really great item, if gives ur attack dmg as huge boost, and you'll later be able to upgrade it into The black cleaver.

Doran's blade. You shouldn't sell your Doran's blade, just because you need some extra money. You should save it until ur back is full, and it's not valuable for you anymore.

Zeal is one of the three items requried to get Trinity force. It gives u movement speed, crit and attack speed which is great for Vayne.

Sight Ward Sight Wards! You should buy a few sight wards to prevent ganking. each kills gives around 300 gold, and even more if you've a killstreak of 3 or higher. It's worth it! - Buy wards, save lives.


ionian boots of lucidity is my personal favorite! It gives u (like any other boots) 2 enchaned movement speed, but it also gives u 15% reduced CD! - Which is just great! With these boots, you can tumble several times in teamfights, you would be able to get away, and it's easier to farm minions. I can only recommend these boots!

Berserker's Greaves. Those boots were my former boots. I used to play with them until I tried ionian boots of lucidity. They give u 25% increased attack speed, but it equals to 1/15. (I'll just calculate it correclty)
These boots are also the most common for ranged dps, so they're great choice, I just prefer ionian boots of lucidity.

Boots of Switfness is a great deal, if you're having trouble escaping from ppl. You might lane against a ''mobility champion'' like master yi, corki or something similar to them. If that's not the situation, I wouldn't recommend them.

mercury's treads is a great deal, if you're playing against opponents with **** lot of CC. it gives u the basic 2 enchant movement speed, but it also reduces the duration of slows, stuns, silences, etc. etc. Which is great.

Primary Luxery

Trinity Force is a really expensive item with 4070 gold!, but it's every single gold wort it, becuase it gives Vayne everything she needs + 2 insane passives. Vayne dosen't have a slow, so it's really great for her to get 25% chance to slow target for 2.5 sec, and when she has casted a spell like tumble her next basc attack will have 150% increased attack damage! I'd would say it's a must for Vayne. This iteam gives her everything!

Infinity edge is another really expensive item, but it's also every single g worth it. What I like about it, is not the attack dmg or the crit. It's the passive! - Critical strikes now hit for 250% increased dmg instead of 200%! - Stack that with trinity force's passive, and you'll have a kill maching. However you might want to get this as ur 3rd or 4th item, since The black cleaver & Phantom dancer are better in my opnion.

Phantom dancer is another expensive item (just like all the others <.<), but phantom dancer fits really nice with the black cleaver, because you'll be able to get the stacks of a lot quicker, and Infinity edge, just because of the crazy crazy amount of dmg. + it gives u increased movement speed, and Vayne cannot get enough of that!

The bloodthirster is one of the cheap items I'm going to cover for you guys. The Bloodthirster can be really useful, but it can also just be a waste of gold. It all depends on who you are fighting against. melee champions like Master yi or Tryndamere will basiclly just rape you, if they get in range of you, but lifesteal like the bloodthirster can be enough for you to kill them. I won't recommend buying the bloodthirster when fighting against ability power champions like Brand or Ryze.

The black cleaver is a really great item, if you are fighting against any champions! tanks like rammus or malphite, would die quicker, and squishy champions like or Will just melt! its passive reduces your targets armor by 15, stack up to 3 times, really OP! it equals to 18 greater mark of desolation greater mark of desolation!

Is great when fighting against opponents who stack up health like Vladimir or Swain, You'll kill them quicker because you hit for 4% of their health - with magic dmg. It's a really great item, however if u choose madred's bloodraor Madred's bloodrazor you probably had to pick a mastery point in Archaic Knowledge, and in order to get that point, you would have to get another point in sorcery. In my opinion it's not really worth it, unless your enemy team has a lot of Hp stackers.

Is every gold worth, if you're fighting aginst opponents with silences, stus etc.- Often Ability Power champions. As I told you, if you are laning against an AP champion, you should consider buying catalyst the protector early game, and then later upgrade it to Banshee's veil, it can be very useful!

Scondary Luxery

Last Whisper is a cheap item with some decent and solid stats. I won't recommend it unless, you are playing against a heavy tanks like or , 40% armor pen is a lot, and you won't need all of it, unless for tanks.

Stark's fervor, I would only recommend this item when you're fighting against tanks (reducing nearby opponent's armor by 20), or if your team got some extra carries, melee or ranged dps like Caitlyn, Tryndamere, Vayne.

Wit's end I've never seen this item been bought (or I just don't remember >.<), it might be good when facing AP heroes like Brand, Malzahar the mana loss could be fatal (in early game).

Sword of the divine. It's passive deal 100 magic dmg every 4th attack, it's okay yeah, but not great. However the active is pretty cool, though only when facing champions who can dodge like Jax. Stark's fervor costs less gold than Sword of the divine, and I'd rather buy that 100%.

Game Phases

Early Game

1st of all you pick up your items and heads towards your lane. (If you have a jungler like warwick, secure his part of the jungle). What you want to do in the early game is to harras, and getting last hits. A lot of last his gives u a lot of gold (makes sense) and if you're able to harras an opponent to about 50% Hp or less, he'll start playing defensive = more area for you to play, and your friends can succesfully come and gank your opponent. You might want to pick up a red or blue buff, when your minions are pushing the turret for minimum exp loss. Otherwise you should just stay in your lane. remember to inform your teammates if you are missing 1 or more ppl at your lane.

Middle game

When you've reached mid game you should get your core / luxery items now. You should start moving your focus away from your lane, lasthits and harrasing. Instead you should start to gank, and then focus 1 lane with several of your friends. If you're doing a great job in your lane, and you want to stay: WARD! - Ward your lane to prevent ganks. You team should also consider taking drake (190 gold to every1 equals to 3 kills O.o)

Late game

You should have some luxery items by now. At this point you should stick to your team 24/7, don't go alone and do crazzzyyyyyy stuff, your opponents are looking for ways to gank and kill your, to bring them a step ahead of your team! At teamfights focus down the carries and supporters 1st, losing a teamfight might cost you the game.

Wards save lives <33


sight ward

sight ward Places an invisible ward with 1100 range sight. Lasts 4.5 minutes, Max: 5 Stacks.

Places an invisible ward with 1000 range Magical Sight (see invisible units). Lasts 3 1/2 minutes, Max: 5 Stacks.

Gives your Champion stealth detection until they die.

You should ward:

River to prevent ganks.

Drake and Baron, to prevet the enemy team from taking it.

You Blue and Red buff, preventing it from getting stolen

Your opponents blue & red buff to steal it
