An aggressive approach in the mastery tree is a good idea for Xin Zhao since for example damage, attack speed and armor penetration helps improve the effectiveness of Xin Zhao. This is because Xin Zhao is not meant to be a tank.

He should instead:
[*] quickly jump into battle with his audacious charge,
[*] make his crescent sweep,
[*] keep the enemy pinned with three talon strike
[*] use battle fury mostly to decrease the cooldown of his spells.
[*] Xin will then be able to cast audacious charge again on an escaping enemy and then finish the enemy off with three talon strike.

For this fast devastating approach to work, Xin will need very aggressive items.
Because a high attack speed is very beneficial for Xin Zhao, since it improves Xins passive and three talon strike, this build is focused on items which provides attack speed.

This is why the items stated above is a good choice for Xin Zhao
[*] Berserkers greaves is a must due to the attack speed bonus.
[*] Trinity force provides mana which is valuable for Xin. It also make every fourth attack slow the enemy, which is equally good as the frozen mallet for Xin Zhaos case since Xin Zhaos attack speed is so fast so that it will slow the enemy almost as much. However, it is the bonus in attackspeed, crit chance and movementspeed that makes this item legendary for Xin Zhao.
[*] Madreds Bloodrazor, the Black cleaver and Phantom dancer has bonuses in attack, attack speed, movement speed and crit, which makes them worthy.
[*] Starks fervor is effective since it provides a lifesteal which is very beneficial in Xin Zhaos case since Xin has a very high damage output. This item will also make Xin Zhao quite defensive because the of the sweet life regeneration Xin gets from his passive and from Starks fervor. Starks fervor is also the only lifesteal item which has a bonus in attack speed.

Xin Zhao is however not that good at escaping. Sure he has improved movement speed from his items, but that is not always enough. The skills "Ghost" and "Flash" will therefore be appropriate to choose, and remember kids they could be used for chasing down some mofos too.
