It also reminded me of DyE - Fantasy towards the end. The start of Fantasy used very similar tones and effects.

My main problem with songs like that is that the song isn't integrated into the melody well.
While they do compliment each other to some degree they're like separate things; the music and the song.
That seems to be a common problem in metal music in general. (the songs below have it too, to some degree)

That's a shame, because Arsis can be better than that. Or at least their EP "A Diamond for Disease" and album "We Are the Nightmare" were. I'll drop the opening of the later below. (Ignore the video. Extreme metal music videos are pretty uniformly bad, and I only really selected this version of the song for audio quality.)
EDIT: Also, I should probably put something here that people won't mind listening to. While I listen to a lot of metal, I've also really been enjoying E.S. Posthumus recently. Particularly this song:
