That said, you definitely need a good grasp of the fundamentals (stuff like last-hitting, positioning, basic mechanics of abilities and kiting) in order to make good use of vision. A smart player can learn a lot from one or two wards while an inexperienced player might have a lot of wards but not even pay attention to their map.
If you're new to the game, I recommend focusing on the basics and use your trinket often before delving into the complexities of vision control. If you're a support, make sure you buy a Sightstone and put wards in the river or ramps that lead into the jungle, for starters.
It is insane how many wards you have to put on the map and how the game shapes. I put over 15 wards on the map on average in a game and sometimes it is not enough. The key about vision is where to ward and when to ward.
For example in a late game scenario a ward can mean a pick at baron and winning the game. If you pick a member from the enemy team you reduce the enemy team's gold in that fight by maybe 10k? That is massive and game changing indeed. This is especially important in the current fast paced meta.
