I ended up having Ionic Spark, Zerk's Greaves, Infinity Edge, Phantom Dancer, and a Frozen Mallet. was fun :]

@Marxr - I moved surge to the okay list since you're right- shen can take advantage of bot sides. I don't usually build any AP so I don't find it all that useful though.

As for the wit's end idea- I think it can be great, but I still think that there are better AS items and better MR items. I think you could definitely build it and it is a great choice, but I don't think I'll put it in my core for now.

I don't put the MR in the core, but I don't usually follow my core exactly. The cheat sheet list of items is pretty much only on my ideal games. I usually will get a FoN if I'm worried about the AP carry or about Madred's. If there is only one Madred's on the on the other team you should be able to pick them out and tear them down with a taunt and ff though.

Also, a madreds will tear your *** up because you have like no magic resistance. I was playing ranked and that why I worked wits end into my build. I had two people field madreds just for me so having MR really, really helps. Madreds is about the only thing that can hurt Shen with as much hp as he has, so you can pretty much count on at least one of the enemy getting it.

I feel like you should try out surge again. I run ignite and surge on my shen and it WRECKS people esp. early game. Shen is one of the few champs who can actually use all of surge's benefits instead of one or the other. If you get the bonus from the tree its even better. It boosts his ults shield and you can use it right before u pop it for 9 seconds of extra as and ap. It is also great in team fights or 1v1. It boosts all of his abilities damage AND it gives crazy as. Whats not to love? I have been having alot of success running this:
HoG-boots- warmogs- merc treads - warden mail - wits end - ionic spark - randuins - FoN

wits end is great cuz it lets you neglect tanky mr items in favor of dmg while still actually being tanky and it synergizes well with ki strike and ionic. otherwise thumbs up

I left Atmas off the core build because I'm kinda holding on to the notion that Shen can be built as a pure tank, but you're probably right. I'm going to add it as the sixth item.

Nice guide little bit short but i will recommend Atma's if you have a frozen mallet and a warmogs and not only in the guide but also in the purchase order ;) but i gve you +1

@ Barfcat - I added Zeke's to the item list, and I'll try it out today. I have no idea why that one didn't occur to me, but it is almost a perfect fit for shen.

@ Rowsdower - That tooltip is wrong. If you check in game or on the riot site it shows it is for ANY auto attack. Alacrity isn't necessary for jungle- on Lee Sin you should be taking straight AD because of his passive. It really depends on the champ though- I agree that they are very powerful in the jungle though.

I wouldn't go so far as to say that Marks of Alacrity are required for jungling, being as the cooldown reduction effect on Ki Strike only triggers when auto-attacking champions (according to the tooltip, at least). Otherwise, the guide is good. It makes a good point of indicating how the changes have altered Shen's role, as well as how to go about fulfilling it.

By the way, I am very excited to use this guide. I think you are completely right about Shen being overpowered right now but I have never used him. I want to make him into my main junglertank.
