LEC 2024 Spring Split Primer

LEC's Spring Split is launching this Saturday! Read on to learn all about it, and check out what's changed since Winter.

LEC Spring 2024 Start & Schedule

Just like in Winter, the Spring Split games will take place on Saturdays, Sundays, and Mondays. The regular season begins this weekend, and it will span from the 9th of March until the 25th. The playoffs will begin on the 30th of March and end on the 14th of April. The games will begin at 17:00 CET each day and end around 22:00 CET.

The Week 1 schedule has already been posted up online for you to see. The excitement will kick off with a match between Team Heretics and Team Vitality this very Saturday.

LEC Format

As before, the regular season will see 10 participating teams fight in a single round robin tournament. This means that every team will get to play every other team once. All matches in the regular season will be best-of-ones.

Once Week 3 concludes, two teams will be eliminated until Summer, while the top eight will move on to the playoffs. Round 1 and 2 of the playoffs will feature best-of-three matches, while Round 3 and onwards will be best-of-fives. The playoffs will utilise a double elimination bracket, which means that each team can afford to lose one match-up, but will be eliminated if they lose a second time.

Stakes & Championship Points

The winners of the Spring Split will join G2 Esports as European representatives at the Mid-Season Invitational 2024 in May. The winners will also automatically qualify for the LEC Season Finals for a chance to earn their ticket to the 2024 World Championships.

If G2 Esports wins Spring as well, the second European team that will be at MSI will be whichever team holds the most championship points. The current Championship Points leader board is as such:

While MAD Lions KOI is currently the most likely to qualify based on championship points, they'll still need to put in a great performance in Spring to ensure it happens. Teams will earn more championship points for winning games in Spring than they did in Summer.

LEC Team Changes

Team Heretics will be making at least one change to their roster for Spring. Though they performed well in the first week of the regular season, the Heretics fell off greatly and couldn’t perform up to snuff in the playoffs. Team Heretics has signed Adrian "Trymbi" Trybus, which means that Norman "Kaiser" Kaiser will be out for Spring. Though Trymbi is well-liked by fans, and many bemoaned the fact that he would seemingly be teamless in 2024, the fact that Kaiser is being removed is equally disappointing. While Heretics did not achieve the results they wanted, it doesn’t seem like the problems stemmed from the well-decorated support.

While not confirmed yet officially by Team Heretics, rumours have been circulating in the past couple of days that another roster change will be put in place for Spring - that of the removal of Luka "Perkz" Perković. Once considered one of Europe’s mid lane goats, Perkz has yet to be able to replicate the success he enjoyed on G2 Esports between 2015 and 2020. His brief stint in the LCS, on Team Vitality, and now on Team Heretics have all been unsuccessful. As the rumours go, Perkz will be benched following a dispute between the mid laner and Team Heretics staff. Artur "Zwyroo" Trojan, mid laner of Team Heretics’ academy team is rumoured to be taking Perkz’ spot.

Another confirmed roster change is in the top lane of Rogue. Finn "Finn" Wiestål is set to replace Mathias "Szygenda" Jensen in Spring. Rogue was one of two teams that failed to make it past the regular season during the Winter split, so it’s natural that the team would be looking to shake things up somehow. Whether this one change will be enough remains to be seen.
