I am not 100% sure how the LP system works, but it is starting to piss me off. I recently played a game with 
Ezreal which lasted around 55 minutes I believe. We ended up winning and I only got 6 LP. Then I play another game with Ezreal and lose after a 20 minute surrender. (We had a DC) I ended up losing 14 LP.
This isn't the first time it has happened either. It is a common trend I will win a game and get around 6-9 LP max but then end up losing 10-15 after a loss. I am not really complaining, just sorta frustrated...

This is pretty common at Silver 1. It's the most difficult division to climb out of. The top division of each tier is more difficult to rise from, but silver is the most difficult out of any of them (except perhaps D1->Challenger).
Ultimately the only thing you can do is play games and win as many as possible. You'll get your series eventually if you keep playing.
Wow, I never knew that. I guess I will attempt to find a duo partner and rise out of Silver...hopefully.
