Just some thoughts I felt like sharing. Without further ado...

Like a fair number of players, I want to climb up the MMR/ELO ladder, get into better matches and play with and against great players. But why? An important question. For me, it is out of fascination with the mechanics and strategies behind high level play. Things that are absent in the pellmell chaos that is whatever MMR my normals get matched at.

I'm under no illusion that I could play at that level. Yet. In lane the best I would manage against a great player is to farm, and poorly, and I would be largely clueless in the wider picture. Sadly, I've always learnt best by diving in the deep end and floundering back up to the top. I doubt such would work in lane, getting crushed repeatedly by someone who far outclasses me teaches me little. But in the team oriented portion of the game, I should progress in leaps and bounds. So the best bet for me seems to join a MOBAFire inhouse. Just as soon as I get a free friday afternooon...

It's a little frustrating, really. There are narrow areas where I feel I far exceed the capabilities of my team mates and opponents and areas in which I feel quite the opposite. Sometimes I'll come up with a clever way to manipulate my opponents, and then the whole plan gets ruined by them taking a completely bat**** insane path instead of the smart, logical one that plays right into my hands. Sometimes I do bat**** crazy stuff. Some of the high level stuff I feel I can do just doesn't really work that well where I am. Or maybe it does, but only if pulled off well, and I am simply making poor facsimiles of such plays. Then there is the huge inbetween which places me at what is probably an appropriate level of play for me.

Still, as long as I see people making overly stupid or basic errors in normals, I guess I can safely say I will be placed in a league division where the same occurs. Hence why I delay ranked until I know that I can play at, and am playing at, the level which so intrigues me (or near enough that I feel I can progress in my tier. I currently feel like I've plateaued). For now, I'll keep learning from streams and keep analysing my performance in games, what is worth carrying into my next games and what should be amended.
