League of Legends (LoL) Question: What's A Good Supp To Start With?

What's A Good Supp To Start With?

Pretty much what the Question says. So far I've been playing mostly mid or adc. I'm wanting to expand my scope, though, and I'm looking into supp. SO quite simply: who's a good supp to start out with for someone who's never played supp? I'm leaning towards Soraka or Sona but would appreciate some advice on who to start with.

Edit: I appreciate everyone's input so far, you've given me some good stuff to consider. Thanks!

Janna is a top tier support and pretty easy to play. She's only 1350 IP too, I believe.

For starters id say Soraka, Sona and Leona because their kits arent too advance and they might help you.
i do recommand finding favorites or champions who suits you though. note if you play off support like annie or fiddlesticks. dont build like midlaner. try find a balance between damage and support/tank items.

I'm actually pretty decent with Sticks...TOO decent with him, apparently, as when I take him in bot with an ADC I inevitably end up getting more kills than the ADC since Drain tends to make enemies start running away quickly (out of range of ADC so breaking away before the enemy dies just means they get away and neither me nor my ADC gets the kill). Maybe that says more about the quality of ADC I tend to get paired with, though. >.>

I would suggest Braum,Leona and Morgana... cant go wrong with those 3 because they are pretty easy to play... The next step would be Thresh and Blitz if you wanna be more of a play maker or Nami and Janna if you wanna be more team focused with lots of disengage but they are rather squishy.

Soraka and Sona are rather squishy. Someone like Leona simple and tanky so you can't go wrong with her. Braum and Nami are rather easy as well.

I agree. I think that, with the exception of Janna, squishy supports in general should be left alone until the person gets accustomed to the support role.

Disagree with Nami though, id say shes more skillbased support. i dont recommand starters to go with nami unless they really like her kit

Depends on what you wanna learn how to do.

I'd suggest Annie. Fits the meta, helps you transition from mid to sup easily, and fits standard support roles as well.

To start with Annie could be risky in my opinion. if he do decide to pick up annie. make sure you go items either like locket or at least sightstone etc

Also Vel'Koz if you already have experience with the champion. and to some extent Karma.
