Hi, I'm a poor bronze elo fellow who just fell in love with shyvana 5 games ago ;) I've seen many shyvana's building with bloodthirster and I tried it. I didn't feel it actually made me more strong. What do you think? Also, in all my games, I snowballed really early (5 - 7 kills at 15 mins). I usually rush devourer and blade of the ruined king. Should I rush trinity force since I'm getting fed or should I go for another option? Also, is shyvana strong in late game? With my current build, I didn't feel I was as strong as in early-mid game.
Hey there. I'd just like to preface by saying that with the massive changes to the game in preseason my guide is now severely outdated and I'm currently working on an update which will probably be ready in the next day or two. Hopefully that will be helpful when it's out.
So first about Bloodthirster. You're absolutely right in feeling that it doesn't help you. It was explicitly designed to be a defensive lifesteal choice for full AD champions and it does that job (and only that job) well. It synergizes very poorly with Shyvana and is worth neither the gold cost nor an item slot. To be honest it's kind of funny to me that there are people using it.
The build you describe was pretty good in Season 5. Devourer was almost always the best idea for Shyvana. Then as long as you're not behind after you've built devourer and boots, rushing either a Blade of the Ruined King or Titanic Hydra was and still the best option. (I don't feel devourer is typically the "best" item anymore. What I'm sayin is if you build it then the best thing to follow up with is one of those items.) The updated Guinsoo's Rageblade has now popped up as an additional option to augment your devourer, but I can't attest to it's validity yet. I need to test it more. As for Trinity Force, it's a good item for shyvana, but it's not a good idea to build with devourer. Any damage items you build after devourer should have on-hit damage for every basic attack. Devourer's phantom hit will get you SOOO much more value from these items, and Triforce isn't one of them. On any champion including shyvana, Trinity Force tends to be strongest when used in a one or two damage item build, and when it's bought early in the game. I'd only recommend building it when you have a cinderhulk.
In my experience Shyvana is strong at all stages in the game except for levels 1 and 2, with a noticeable peak in power during mid-game. There are a couple reasons why you may feel weak late game. One is itemization. Titanic Hydra has always been a superior option to Blade of the Ruined King in terms of dps to either single or multiple squishy targets. When facing a squishy team try a build with devourer, hydra and then full tank and see how it works. And remember that the hydra active is an aa reset and can be chained with your Q. Another thing about late-game is that while Shyvana isn't weak during it per se, it does require a bit more finesse for her than the other stages. Most players in lower elo tend to have a lot of trouble with late-game on any champion. Learning how to work the map and your enemy late-game according to the strengths of your champion and your team is a pretty complicated beast. I could write an entire book and it wouldn't be as useful as showing you just one game. I recommend you watch some games on my stream so I can lead by example. I try to explain my tactics and thought process often, and can answer any questions immediately.
Now as for my incoming update to the guide... All I'm saying right here and now is that Enchantment: Warrior is DEFINITELY my go-to item at the moment.
I'll have an update soon on what I find.
