If you guys didn't watch Dignitas @ IPL4 recently, check it out. They played a double-support team and put 2 top, 1 bottom, and it worked. It was really cool to watch them screwing with the other team's assumptions about how the game is played i.e. curb stomp the meta.
In one game they had Janna+Cog duo-top, Soraka solo-mid, Lulu solo-bot, and jungle Mundo.

This is great example for meta that a lot of exposure to it simply makes people think, "that's just how its done".
This apparently doesn't work in all cases, cus no matter how many times Phreak takes new champs jungling in the champion spotlight, and building a triforce for "tons of damage". People still don't do it...
Phreak seems unable to pass on his ideas. Maybe he should do a thing on meta, and suddenly people will stop doing it. :D
Picture is so true
From experimenting in low elo (cant get enough serious players for a team yet but that will change soon enough once im back to full time on lol this summer)
1.AD range can still out range AP casters mid, but AP has much more burst
2.on bot AD carry works perfectly when supported right, However 2 AP or 2 ad melee bot will negate the support often times,
3. double jungle can work provided you establish who is primary jungle and who is the part lane, part coutner-jungle, part jungler, and team communication is key in that scenario.
4. Top lane is literally become a 1 v 1 setup so to be honest if you can 1 v 1 almost anyone as your favorite champ well then top lane is an option for you.
5. Despite the sudden small increase in not using a jungler right after the intital jungle changes last year this is proven to not work so please dont do it.
6. AP and AD jungle are equally viable, and non-traditional junglers will give you an edge as enemy does not know what to expect. Also non-smite jungle is effective if you can clear quickly without it.
7. A true/semi-true tank is out of favor but high cc tank with a more traditional style build will make a difference provided your team knows how to work with a true tank instead of a bunch of off-tanks
8. Most AP can be built as AD with very good success, but not other way around.
9. Eve, Twitch, Akali, why do we not see them more (granted eve is very hard to use now days) but overall assassin champs with decent invisibility move are still very effective.
10. not meta does not = troll, trundle = A troll, experimentation = possible new meta (just havnt seen one yet this season), Trundle still = A troll.
just some thoughts on what me and some friends have seen/discovered. Like I said not test well at mid to high elo and I highly doubt any of these will prove to be the "key" to a new meta but it does show that the meta is not perfect and experimentation can still be done.
Really good, famous experiment that is one of my favourites throughout the ages. One might also look towards Milgram's study of obedience (the shocking one, many will have heard of it) in regards to how this carries on. If I tell someone (who knows nothing about the subject in question) "It is how it is, now use X, Y and Z", they will likely use X, Y and Z without question, even if that negatively affects them or their team. As such, I think people don't innovate as much because they're told not to, even if they do, even subconsciously, want to innovate.
Many famous psychological experiments are really good when applied to LoL. I'd advise giving Elephants on Acid (or Boese's follow up, Electrified Sheep) a read, a really good book that details some experiments throughout the ages that are really, really interesting.
But my question is, so what? Metagame exists for a reason, because so far it's been a predominant way to win games. No one said that unconventional lane setups can't win, moreover, most good players approve the idea that the game has no formula.
Just take metagame as the best way (at the moment) to ensure a win. And remember that it's subject to change.
Imo, there's nothing wrong with going along with conventions just as there is nothing wrong in slanting onto tangents occasionally.

thats in low elo.
Our metagame at the moment is based on what the national professionals do. Other ways work, this way just counters other ways and is better.
His ranked ELO is 2150. I highly doubt his normal ELO is less than 1900.
