Why AD Kennen?

A while ago I told a friend of mine that one of my favorite champs was AD Kennen, but he didn't seem to understand why I would do this at all. After a few games with me he now understands the power of him, who can carry impressively well.

Why thought? Kennen does not have that great AD stats, or any skills that seem to really increase your auto attacks' damage. Look carefully though: Electrical Surge makes every fifth shuriken deal 80% more damage, effectively meaning 16% more damage per attack. This damage is NOT reduced by diminishing returns EVER, being insanely prominent lategame. Also you get to stun everybody every once in a while which is great no matter what.

Last I'd like to mention that I am not a very experienced player, but last game I played with AD kennen the other team called me OP after being disappearing in front of me a couple of times.

Runes

I use Armor Penetration Marks, Health per level Seals, CD reduction Glyphs, and attack speed Quintessences. I never really put too much thought into them so feel free to change them as you see fit.

Masteries

I go for 21/9/0. I generally never aim to get damaged so I just focus on dealing tons of damage.

Summoner Spells

Usually I play 3v3 with Kennen and I pick Exhaust and Ignite just to dominate solo lane. You are free to chose from other summoner spells, but I never really found anything good enough to change these two.

Skills

Mark of the Storm: Kennen's abilities add Marks of the Storm to opponents which last for 8 seconds. An opponent is stunned for 1 second upon receiving 3 Marks of the Storm. Also, Kennen receives 25 energy. The stun has a diminished effect if applied more than once within 7 seconds.

Pretty self explanatory, just hit 'em three times, and they are stunned! You have to monitor your stacks on them so that you can pull it off to maximize its utility. Read on for this.

Thundering Shuriken: Kennen throws a fast moving shuriken towards a location, dealing 75 / 115 / 155 / 195 / 235 (+75% of ability power) magic damage and adding a Mark of the Storm to any opponent that it hits.

With this build only pull off this to get damage them some early game, and, of course, to add a charge. It's never gonna be a big change in your damage output so don't really be based on it.

Electrical Surge:(Passive): Every 5 attacks, Kennen deals magic damage equal to 40 / 50 / 60 / 70 / 80% of his attack damage and adds a Mark of the Storm to his target.

(Active): Surges electricity through all nearby targets afflicted by Mark of the Storm, dealing 65 / 95 / 125 / 155 / 185 (+55% of ability power) magic damage and adding another mark.

This is your favorite ability. It gives an insane 16% increased damage. Also it deals a sweet damage early game, and gives charges to everybody!.

Lightning Rush: Kennen gains his base movement speed again as a flat movement speed bonus, as well as 10 / 20 / 30 / 40 / 50 increased Armor and Magic Resistance, and the ability to pass through units for four seconds, but he is unable to attack. Lightning Rush deals 85 / 125 / 165 / 205 / 245 (+60% of ability power) magic damage and adds a Mark of the Storm to any hostile unit he passes through; deals half damage to minions.

Kennen is refunded 40 energy if he passes through an enemy while using this spell, but can only gain this effect once.

This is the ability you are going to be using the least. Never ever use it to damage someone. Only use it to chase and mostly, to get out. I only get one point on this at level 3 and leave it there as it's useless with this built.

Slicing Maelstrom: Kennen summons a magical storm that deals 80 / 145 / 210 (+40% of ability power) magic damage to a random enemy champion near Kennen every few seconds. The storm hits 6 / 10 / 15 times with a 0.5 / 0.4 / 0.33 second delay between each bolt, and cannot hit the same target more than 3 times. A Mark of the Storm is applied to enemies each time they are hit.

Your ultimate ability. It's cooldown is quite sort so dont hesitate to pop it even on 1v1 battles if you are not anticipating big teamfights. I'm not gonna lie, it won't deal much damage, But the stun is awesome. Because it effectively is an AoE stun. It's going to turn the tides in team fights if used properly. Don't jump in to just pop it though, you'll die and you won't get to do anything for your team. Remember, your power is your auto attacks.

Early Game

I always solo lane with Kennen. First pick a Vampiric Scepter. and go to your lane. When minions come focus on getting as many killing blows as possible. You also want to be hitting minions as much as possible to regen life with lifesteal from their harass.
At level one, dont get badly damaged and land as many Shuricens as possible on them, but don't overextend. When you reach level two, get your W, and try and land every fifth basic attack on them, then zap them with W, and possibly land a Q on them, and a couple more auto attacks, but never overextend for it.
At level three you can start dominating them. I usually stand back, get the charged shuriken, and run to my melee minions. My opponent then has to go back. if he does, just kill minions. If he is stupid enough to not back off punish him: Land an auto attack, pop W, become a lightning bulb and chase him, hit him with Q now that he is away from his minions and stun him. Then auto attack/exhaust/ignite as you see fit. He is killed or forced back at his base. You get your healed with lifesteal and many free minion kills.

Usually I don't have to go back until I have at least 2.5k, and I buy Berserk's Greaves and Emblem of Valor with the Vapmiric Scepter. You may want to buy Mercury's Treads instead depending on their team, but if you are getting cc'ed that much it's not going to make a big difference as you are so squishy.

Mid Game

If you follow the above strategy you should always be able to stand in your lane comfortably. After level 6 you want to start ganging a little, but generally it's always a good option to stick to your lane and get minion kills, its always worth it. If you solo lane and you are fed you can get a little cocky in small teamfights, and jump in right after someone initializing to burst everything down with your ulti and your auto attacks. Don't overdo it though, if you get targeted you are dead.

You want to start building a Infinity Edge, if everything is going ok you gonna have it and you should go for Phantom Dancer.

Late Game

If everything is going according to plan you are carrying your team by now. Anyone that comes close enough can get stunned and burst down by your auto attacks insanely fast if he is not tanky. If both teams are at the phase when they are trying to initiate try to land some occasional auto attacks at their squishy carrys, but don't try to hard. After the fight bursts wait, start hitting their melle from a safe distance untill they start dying/retreating. At this point GO! Pop yout lightning bulb thingy, rush in, pop your ulti, and start autoatacking everything that is not their tank! Even if they fight back a little, they wont burst you down after the battle has progressed this far, and you can live with your lifesteal from Stark's Fervor. A very good trick to pull of is getting them from behind! If you can appear from behind after the battle has progressed a little you are going to get a triple kill and an ace as long as you don't lose the fight. Just get their ranged while they have nowhere to run to, and every melee carry that is retreating. If you are losing the fight though, you are just going to die doing no good to your team, so don't try this if you are not confident enough that it is going to work.

After getting Phantom Dancer you can get a Black Cleaver, a Bllodthirter, a Last Whisper or a Sheen, as you see fit. You may also want to occasionally go for some defensive items as Guardian Angel or Banshee's Veil. You may also sell Berserk's Greaves to get Mercury's Treads.

Conclusion

If you still think this doesn't work, I don't blame you, nobody does in the very beginning. You have to try it to understand it. Just remember that you have a 16% increased damage on top of everything. Buying a B.F. Sword after you've gotten your Phantom dancer increases your damage output by 23% while a Recursive bow by only 14%! If you are playing someone with increased battle stats this percentages are reduced even further, but with Kennen they are not.

Hope you liked it, please post comments and judge me, this is my first guide after all.
