Introduction

is a hybrid assassin champ that is great at taking out enemy carries. Akali is the best anti-carry in the game because she can easily take out any carry with a huge burst of damage, and then throw down her shroud and easily escape. There are many different builds for Akali, but this one is heavily AP-based. This build will shred through any MR and deal tons of damage to any player on the enemy team.

Runes

I take AP Quints and Glyphs to activate her passive right from the start of the game. This will give her extra magic damage which will help with harassing. I take 2 Magic Pen Marks for the obvious reason that they penetrate MR. This will stack later with your magic pen items, making your damage output just too much to handle. The AD Marks will activate the second part of her passive, giving you spell vamp right off the start. Having both of these passives active are the key to Akali's strength. I take HP per level Seals to give me more health into late game, when Akali will be truly unstoppable.

Masteries

This is the first point at where my build differs from most of the Akali builds out there. I take a 21/9/0 mastery page. The 21 in offense is pretty standard, but the 9 points in Defense may have you questioning why you're even looking at this build. Think about it, you're an anti-carry, which means you're going to jump into a fight right ontop of the enemy carries (Caitlyn, Tristana, Ashe, Vayne, etc.), so having your dodge chance up can really help you while taking these AD carries out. Cuz everyone knows that there's nothing more frustrating than your attacks not being able to hit someone as the AD carry. Also, you're going to be in the back of most of fights, but not behind your tanks, you're going to be behind the enemy tanks, way infront of your team, right in the heat of the battle. You want to be able to dodge a few attacks so you aren't taking extreme amounts of damage.

Summoner Spells

I takeand on Akali; Ignite for the extra damage output, and Flash because, well let's face it, Flash is basically necessary on every champion.

Skill Sequence

R > Q > E > W. Max your Q first, which is what you will be using during laning a lot to last hit, especially if you are facing a ranged champ. E comes next so you can farm up multiple creeps at a time. W is the least important because all you really need it for is the invisibility. The increased armor and MR do help, but aren't too necessary until late game.
is Akali's ultimate. This is what makes Akali such a great assassin. A high-range lunge with great damage that stacks up to 3 times.

is Akali's Q ability. You will max this first to use for last hitting and harassing. This ability also applies a mark which Akali will consume on your next auto-attack on the marked target, issuing massive amounts of magic damage.

is Akali's E ability. Max this second. It is a nice AOE spell that deals good amounts of damage to multiple targets at once. This skill is great because it scales off of both AP and AD.

is Akali's W ability. You will max this last. This will mainly be used for the stealth effect that is creates and for the slow. This ability is great to help you escape ganks or land a kill on an unsuspecting champion.

Items

Here is where everyone goes on different paths, and this is just due to the fact that so many items can be good on Akali. I picked the ones for full AP that will tear through the enemy's MR and give you the highest possible damage output.

Start withand 3x .

On your first time back, grab your and maybe a few more .

On your second back you should graband or go straight into your if you have enough money.

After you get your hextech gunblade, you are ready to start putting out maximum amounts of damage. Oh and by the way, don't forget to use the active like i always do. It is a nice amount of damage. I like to use it after I've thrown down my shroud.

Next, you want to start building towards your , making sure to get as your first item. After getting Rylai's, no one should be able to escape from you.

Next, you want to pick up a . This will add to your ability power, and give you some magic pen, because at about this time, everyone is going to have some MR to try to stop you from killing them.

After you get your Void Staff, you are going to want to get a to give yourself even more AP.

Pick up a to tear people apart.

At this point, the game usually should be over, but if it isn't, you bet your butt that the other team has a ton of MR now (if you're doing your job). "So we already have our void staff, how are we going to get more MR? Another Void Staff?" you might say, but no, that'd just be plain stupid. You're going to want to pick up an . This will not only add to your amazing amount of AP, but it will reduce the magic resistance of your enemies, while giving you magic resistance. You gain some survivability while reducing your enemies'. What a great item!

At this point you are fully built, but why not make yourself even more powerful? Don't forget to grab your trip elixir's , , and even just for fun.

Now, run around like a christmas tree and let them know you mean business.

Other viable choices:

If the enemy team is very AD heavy or if you are solo laning versus an AD champ (ex. Vayne, Caitlyn, Tryn, Yi, etc.), you might want to change out your for some just to increase your chance of them not being able to hit you.

is another good choice if the team is AD heavy. In this case you might want to change it out for your . This item also has an amazing active which could really help you out if you get into trouble and your shroud is still on cooldown.
