My skill rank order is based off what i find works. Sure heabutt has a greater overall damage but not by much, and its both only for single targets and ONLY enemy champions. Pulverize offers a stronger disable and AOE damage for both team fights and farming. headbutt true strength lies in what you make of the actually skill(knockin an enemy champion around). In addition if you have the headbutt pulverize combo down packed you really wont need to increase its damage until later. I also take the ult every chance i get. And theres no reason not to your increasing your overall damage and the duration of your skill. For the healing skill after level 3 i hold it off till after my second ult. 3rd rank of triumphant roar is all the healing you'll really need and I've usually picked up sheen and madreds so i'm getting into my damage phase, and the extra damage from headbutt seems more important. This is a Barbarian Alistar build afterall.

I chose the summoner abilities flash and fortify.
Flash is simply for Alistar's maneuverability faults. Flash greatly increase your offensive abilities and positioning of your headbutt. Defensively it is also extremely helpful for when your ult drops and now you have to get out of there, or by helping you escape without popping your ult.
Fortify gives the amazing 9 bonus damage to minions. Alistar has never had it so easy, Farming and last hitting becomes extremely easy and just helps you keep a sturdy gold intake while in a lane. In addition Alistar has issues crossing the map and Fortify gives you a way of helping out without being around.

The item order is in which sequence i buy my items. Obviously it may have to be changed and even some items altered depending on the game. Madreds razor and the berserker greaves make it very easy to farm with Alistar and even forest. If there aren't really any tanks and you see no use for madreds then i would sell it for an earlier zeal and push the trinity force. The early sheen is a necessity for hero kills and becoming more threatening to your enemies. not only does Alistar heal off the harassing damage but he can really dish out threatening damage himself. Banshees is a nice grab and i end with a sunfire just to get some more hp, and armor for late game. and the burning AOE is always nice. (you can grab it before the banshees depending on opponents ans especially if you really wanna push lanes and farm.
