Thanks for the guide. But you forgot one thing. What do I take as second slot in the secundary rune?

Thank you for reminding me, guess I forgot to put that last rune slot. I actually switched the secondary branch over to Precision since those runes seem to synergize well with little Amumu. Presence of Mind is great since Amumu can be very mana-dependent at times and additionally Curse of the Sad Mummy has a huge cooldown. As for Coup de Grace, I think this mainly works well after Amumu uses his ultimate and the enemies are brought to fairly low health so he can finish them off. Also that 7% increase in damage from Coup de Grace can help Amumu with pulling in kills in general since some of his abilities might normally leave the enemy at 5% health which is hard to finish off when his cooldowns can be a struggle.

TIP!
When you play Amumu, ALWAYS start at the chickens and with e first skill! You can do them solo and very fast, then go Red (w 2nd skill) and Blue + back.
The level 3 Dragon doesn't work as I think, at least not with every Dragon, the most are too hard for a weak level 3 Amumu without any items.

I'm aware of how fast chickens die, though I thought sentinels always spawn first, did they change it back to how it was before?

Raptors -> 1.27
Red/Blue -> 1.30
Gromp/Krugs -> 1.42

It's like this for a long time now ;)

I usually start with a bot leash regardless of the side:
  • Blue side (against aggressive jungler) = Skill W -> Start red with leash -> Raptors (I think Amumu is the faster jungler in doing them) -> Secure Blue (smite). You want to get help at red so you don't waste a lot of mana and have a faster clearing. Most of the low level players thinks that Amumu MUST start at blue, but that is a baseless rumor.
  • Blue side (against non-aggressive jungler) = Skill E -> Start raptors alone -> Red (smite) -> Blue. Same as above, most enemies expect Amumu to start blue, but get thrown out if they don't see someone leash him. With this start you can think of cheeseing mid at level 2.
  • Red side (against aggressive jungler) = Skill E -> Raptors -> Red (smite) -> look for cheese at level 2 top or mid -> Blue. It's always the same, people will expect you starting blue, so you want to start on the opposite side of the map (since they want to invade you while doing your red).
  • Red side (against non-aggressive jungler) = Skill W -> Blue with leash -> Gromp (smite) -> Wolves -> look for gank mid -> Raptors -> Red (smite). Here we want to powerfarm our level 6 and get to level 3 as fast as we can. This clean can be useful against partially aggressive jungler that might invade you at red (had a game where a Rek'Sai tried to get me at my red with this clean, she found herself 1v1 a level 3 Amumu while at lvl 2 and got thrashed XD).

EDIT: saw now the date of the post XD

Lol don't listen to me I think I'm just bad at jungling in ranked. Though what I can say is if you decide to go Amumu in ranked just let your team know you're going AP otherwise you might get stuck with no tank.

Hello again, The Jhin Cena,

Your guide for Amumu is helpful, but I have one question:
-Why you don't recommend us to play Amumu in ranked queue. I mean his ultimate - Curse of the Sad Mummy - can turn the tide of the whole teamfight. Besides, I have played against Amumu in diamond elo. It is not bad to play with this champion on ranked in my opinion. Please tell me why you don't recommend us to play him on ranked.

I wasn't saying Amumu in general is bad for ranked, but this build yes. Though you could give it a shot. I've never used this specific AP build for ranked, just a squishier version, and it could actually work out as long as you're jungle and not top. Not sure how far you can get with a non-meta build though. However if you are going to go ranked with Amumu, make sure your team knows you're going AP so your top lane doesn't lock in as someone like tankless Tryndamere. 👍

Hey The Jhin Cena,

Thanks for this awesome guide about Amumu. You realy help me and its very in-depth. But I just have one question.
-Is it better to take Courage of the Colossus instead of Thunderlord's Decree ? Because I think Amumu have to be more tanky. :/

Amumu's traditional way of being built is with Courage of the Colossus however this guide is for AP Amumu, and for AP Amumu, Thunderlord's Decree is the better pick since it scales off of AP.

You did a great job and obviously you've put huge effort into this guide, thank you! But do you really think Vampirism is a better choice then Natural Talent ? Because according to my experiences, Spell Vamp doesn't work that well ^^

@ Astrikas you're correct, Natural Talent is the better choice, not sure why that is on there I'll fix 👍
