Not Updated For Current Season
The masteries shown here are not yet updated for the current season, the guide author needs to set up the new masteries. As such, they will be different than the masteries you see in-game.
One of the reasons Piltover is known as the City of Progress is because it has an extraordinarily low crime rate. This hasn't always been the case; brigands and thieves of all sorts used to find the city-state an ideal mark for plunder, primarily due to the valuable resources it imports to fuel its techmaturgical research. Some even theorize that it would have fallen long ago to the chaos of organized crime if not for Caitlyn, the Sheriff of Piltover. Born the daughter of a wealthy statesman and a pioneering hextech researcher, Caitlyn discovered her natural gift for investigation when, at age 14, her father was assaulted and robbed on his way home. She snuck out of her house that night with her father's rifle and tracked down the muggers from the crime scene. At first, her parents did their best to discourage her from such risky hobbies, but she was incorrigible. Wishing to protect her daughter in the only way she knew how, Caitlyn's mother began outfitting her with techmaturgical devices tailored to her sleuthing needs.
Caitlyn quickly gained notoriety, both because she was single handedly defeating crime in Piltover and also because she soon developed into a ravishing beauty. She never backed down from a case or a challenge, and she was one of the sharpest shots in the city-state. Her services were soon requested by Demacia to help track down a mysterious outlaw who had begun committing high-profile heists. The bandit, who always left a card with an ornate 'C' at the scene of the crime, became Caitlyn's arch-nemesis. To this day, Caitlyn still searches for this cat burglar, and the chase has led her all across Valoran. She has joined the League to hone her skills and gain the influence necessary to track down the only quarry that has managed to evade her.
'Go ahead, run. I'll give you a five minute head start.'
- Caitlyn, from her book 'Target Practice'.
By now i'm certain you have glanced over masteries, items, and runes; yes i know it looks nothing like the typical Caitlyn "glass cannon" build. But please before you vote down at least read through the entire guide if not actully trying the build. not that it matters but this is lso my first guide/build so please constructive criticism is appreciated.
Note: if you are looking to play a " kill, kill, kill" Caitlyn this build is not for you, this build mainly focuses on support damage, Harassing, Farming and later team fights not ganking. You most likly will not get more then 10 kills on average per game.
Pros / Cons
Very good at team fights
Good at dealing with tanks
Low damage mid game
Bad at 1v1
Havew to jungle to make up the lack of kills at low level
9/21/0 does seem very odd for Caitlyn considering her main focus is DPS, But having this will allow Caitlyn to harass a little more safely. Also it allows her to stay in lane for longer periods of time, meaning she should level up faster then your opponet especially if you are harrasing them whenever possible. Farm whenever possible, With this build it should be alot faster and earlyer then most other builds.
This rune set up tends to compliment the items you will have as well as the ability costs you have to deal with. If you have ever played Caitlyn you have almost certainly run into mana problems early/mid game, With Greater glyphs of clarity and Greater seal of clarity you should be able to harass regularly. The Critical Quintessense's are nice but lets be onest who wants to spend 6k on a Quintessense's that are not used often? Any Quintessense's will do but i suggest wither these or Flat health. Alacrity for obvious reasons matches with your item set.
Now this is where things get much much diffrent from the builds you are use to seeing, Phantom dancer with Caitlyn? that IS pretty odd but with the Brutalizers attack and Phantoms speed you have a pretty nice DPS with a pretty nice crit percent. The sword of divine further increases our speed by a great deal while also giving you an extra 100 magic damage every fourth attack which does not take long with your current speed, Its active also makes dealing with AD a little more easy. Nest get your Black cleaver, Capping your attack speed and giving a nice boost to your attack, Also going along with the divine makes dealing with Tanks alot easier in team battles. Now alot of people ma go for the Infinity edge before cleaver, and thats fine if you are having no trouble with AD. Next get your infinity edge making your criticles pretty constant and fast at 2.5 attack speed as well as increasing your damage. :astly finish your brutalizer into a Y-blade.
Note: If you are having problems with staying alive try switching the black cleaver for the frozen mallet.
Pretty common summoner spells Ghost and Flash, If you are having trouble staying alive trade flash for heal because with your net it acts like a flash anyway, If you are still having mana issues then trade it for clarity, But i dont run into these problems.
Note: a really good escape is 90 - calliber net into flash travels you a long distance, Even with CC you should still be able to escape a gank.
Note: If you are having trouble with getting ganked trade ghost for flash if you have heal/clarity.
Creeping / Jungling
Jungling sould not be a main focus by any means, Only jungle at level 7 - 13ish because this is when you dont have the attack power to regularly farm minions. I suggest just grbbing the wraiths pretty quick before teleing back to base or do a run to the Golem buff and wolf camp to help with mana problems and gain a quick 100g, Also when you get your cleaver you should be able to 1v1 dragon if not sooner.
Note:: i advise jungling only if your opponet has to tele back to base; also if you have a consistent jungler do not bother at all.
Note: remember to always hide in the brush to get extra damage from your passive.
In team battles you should never engage unless it is from a safe distance with your Piltover peacemaker, and 90 - caliber net combo(to safly get away), You should hang out in the mid to back of the fight, making sure to Focus tanks, and AP champions. Your main job here is to deal damage which should be pretty easy considering your crit/attack speed, Dont try to be the hero because more often then naught you will die and so will your teammate. The only situation I recomend is if you have flash ready then i would 90-calber net the chaser and flash away if need be.
Piltover Peacemaker - Caitlyn revs her rifle for 1 second to fire a penetrating shot which deals 20/65/110/155/200 (+) physical damage. 1-1 attack ratio
Mana 50/60/70/80/90 Range1300
Yordle Snap Trap - Caitlyn sets up to three traps to reveal sneaky yordles, which trigger on champions. When sprung, the trap immobilizes the target and deals 80/130/180/230/280 (+0.6) magic damage over a couple of seconds.
90 Caliber Net - Caitlyn fires a net to slow her target for 1/1.25/1.5/1.75/2 second(s). This deals 80/130/180/230/280 (+0.8) magic damage and knocks Caitlyn back
Ace in the hole - Caitlyn takes time to line up the perfect shot, dealing 250/475/700 (+) physical damage at 1600/1900/2200 range.
