Introduction
Well, this is my first guide. All about a pretty epic champion I have recently come to play. Cho'gath has insane base survival ability and often is seen as a good choice for a full on tank. Or players can take the other route, taking advantage of his AP skill set. However why not make use of both Cho's base survival and AP skills. And instead build some AP early game to secure those early kills/assists enabling you to get the gold to tank better late game. So here is a work-in-progress of my attempt to find that kind of build. And as such will be updated as I work through different items, play sets along with other factors. But i'm happy to say the build as it is now works wonders.
Pros
-
- High health
- Strong AP skill set
- Strong CC with rupture
- CAN EAT PEOPLE ... nom nom.. oh and hes a sir ;)
Cons
-
- A tad mana hungry early game
- A bit slow - but good positioning will sort that out
- Items are on the expensive side
- You can only have one massive om nom monster per team :'(
Flash
A must on nearly all my champions. Since Cho'gath will be soloing top your going to need to make a quick escape at some point or another from a nasty gank or a well timed enemy skill sequence. You may take ghost instead of flash, and yes it will work for you as an escape mechanism so it is down to personal preference. Some of you may be reading and saying to yourself's "But Rocketboxer, ghost will let me catch my low health oppenent and kill him!" To which i reply with a single word. Rupture. Thats how you catch them, more about that in a bit.
The second choice of summoner spell varies, depending on your play style. So I will just list the more viable ones below.
Teleport
Teleport is a useful spell to get back to your solo lane quickly, making sure you retain that gold and experience income. Or, as the reason I take teleport, too jump to a sight ward and provided a surprise gank on another lane. Using your AP for damage and hopefully getting kill/assist gold. And if not a enemy death you will most likely have zoned them out.
Ignite
Ignite is a spell for those players who play aggressive or want a boost to their damage output, enabling kills to be secured or too more easily zone out enemy champions. By netting those kills early game a more stable mid game is seen. Another strong point in the use of ignite is that in team fights you will be able to reduce the effectiveness of healers.
