Introduction
Your not going to see anything fancy in this guide, just a quick item guide and how I believe he is meant to be played. As the Badass crystal scorpion snatchin' yo people up.
Energize - Basic attacks lower the cooldowns of Skarner's abilities by 1 second against champions and 0.5 seconds against non-champions. This is what needs to get beefed up. It will allow you to stay in team fights holding your own without a problem.
Crystal Slash - Activating it the first team will let out a small aoe, however it gets its importance from its subsequent activations. The slow and additional magic damage will allow you to pound on enemies while dishing out tons of damage
Crystalline Exoskeleton - Skarner's big helper for ANYTHING. This gives a small shield, however the main use is the attack and bonus speed you receive, note the bonuses break if the shield does.
Fracture - Skarner sends out a shock wave skill shot that marks targets. Hitting the target will heal yourself for said amount. Use this to secure kills, harass, or more importantly heal.
Impale - The QQ skill. Suppress a unit and deal damage while moving them as you wish. Couldn't ask for much more. This is by far the ultimate 1v1 fight winner.
When you realize the potential damage of your q you suddenly find yourself popping it constantly...until you oom.
Fights should be initiated by activating your w and charging in. Follow your first hit by a quick q, throw your fracture for a heal and damage, then q again for slow. By this time they should be relatively low or dead. If not continue to chase by popping your shield when available and continue slowing
NOTE - Your ultimate is one of the best in the game for picking off a single guy. If you can pull in their carry and tear him down before a team fight the change can be IMMENSE
Do know Skarner is just like any other champion, you cannot win every team fight by yourself. It is impossible, teamwork is very important always.

Tiamat -Some of you may be wondering why Tiamat, I'll talk about being able to lane. Tiamat will provide everything Skarner needs, AD, some regen, but most importantly the aoe hit. With the aoe you can easily farm down a creep wave along with your q. Also tiamat will help you quickly eat your marks you put on creeps to heal.
Sword of the Divine - pretty self-explanatory. His passive builds off speed, more speed, more skills, more ravaging.
Hextech Gunblade - Skarner is a hybrid, and it doesn't matter what anyone says, he needs some AP to help out his skills. this will provide the life stealing to keep him in fights as well as a very helpful boost to your AD/AP
Sheen/Trinity Force - He is a caster plain and simple, and with over 200 AD tri. force will be activating a LOT dropping some very helpful damage and giving overall great boosts
the 6th item is conditional. Build this according to what you need to stop your enemies.
