Trinity Force gives AP, but that is the only set back. After using an ability you deal 150% more damage on your next attack. Also Phantom Dancer's stats are only a little bit better than Trinity Force, but you don't get the other abilities, like sheen. Imagine if you initiate with Decapitate then auto attack, followed by Crippling Strike, then catch them with Apprehend, land another auto attack. By that time decapitate is up again and they are at full stacks, usually that is how I get max damage on my Noxian Guillotine.

Decimate... the move is Decimate xD

But I get what you say... it just takes so long to build it and takes up so much space while doing so that I just find it hard to get it to flow in to my build.

I guess I have this feeling about everyone using Trinity Force. I've started playing Skarner this week as he is free and I enjoy trying before buying and everything I read says to rush it... meanwhile getting stomped defensively lol

Perhaps I will learn to love it eventually!

Btw, I would appreciate some rep everyone!
lol

@ RRobot

I actually had someone mock me and verbally abuse me for an entire game about the way I build Darius and went so far as to say I have NO IDEA what I'm doing. In this process, he made fun of my use of Frozen Heart! What is there no to like?

99 Armor? yay I live longer
500 Mana? all the better to cleave you with
20% CdR? SPAM SPAM SPAM
20% Attack Speed Reduction? You'll never hit me anough to kill me

So can someone please explain why people have such an issue with it. I know it's kinda expensive but for the stats it gives you, how many Armor dominant items are better?

Exactly. Frozen Heart is one of the best, if not the best item in the game. It's perfectly okay on Darius, someone who needs to have some tankiness because he gets close to the fight, and he already has high base damage. Just ignore those people.

One more thing... saw you use Trinity Force in your DPS build... as he has no need for AP, why use it?

It's an item that annoys me for this reason:

You have Lich Bayne for Mages and Trinity Force for champions that are more or less hybrids (from what I understand of this game lol) but where is the option for pure AD champs? Doesn't really seem fair if you ask me. As much as I dont like Frozen Mallet in the late late game (I usually have it and then sell it), I still like it better than Trinity Force... perhaps try the Phantom Dancer? After all, Darius is kinda slow (plus all the other things I mentioned... or maybe the Black Cleaver.

Just some other thoughts I had. I could go on for days and days about Darius.

And for everyone's knowledge...DARIUS IS NOT OP! AND HE NEVER WILL BE! CC OWNS HIM BECAUSE HE HAS NO NATURAL ESCAPE AND NEVER WILL! SO EVERYONE STOP SAYING HE'S OP BECAUSE YOU'RE WRONG!

Glad we're on the same page everyone.

I like the feedback you gave me and I can see where you are coming from. The thing is, you play Darius differently me from me. You try to win the game by yourself, which can work. However, if the game reaches past 40 minutes then the other teams ad carry can just focus you down instantly and kill you. Infinity edge is a viable item, but I think you are forgetting about the main damage behind Darius, his ult. By the end of the game it does somewhere between 700 and 800 true damage. With just that most enemies are about half or a third gone. The only way this works though is if you stay alive. Critting every other hit is nice, but it won't deal the damage that your team needs. And since Darius is very vulnerable to CC if he gets hit by anything he can be bursted down instantly.

BTW, Thanks for appreciating how good Frozen Heart is on Darius.

Darius cannot be built as a true tank as he has no crowd control. He is meant to be more of an offtank or just a bruiser type. Although I am new to LoL (playing for a month and a half), I am already level 24 (almost 25) and Darius has been my main champ most of the way. I have tried pure tank builds and he just seems to fall too short. His early game is unwhelming as he has no Attack Speed or damage to run through minions. Late game, he continues to suffer. Although he lasts quite a while, all of his attacks scale off of AD and thus you need some decent damage items.

Also, the stacks of Hemorrhage lower the cooldown on your W (which allows you to spam it and stick to targets and also increases your damage (TRUE DAMAGE, BTW) done by NOXIAN GUILLOTINE (always feels good to yell that lol).

I find my final build looking like this : Boots (Greaves, Mercury or Ninja depending on your needs), Phantom Dancer (1) Attack Speed to stack Hemorrhage, 2) crit chance (wait for importance later), and 3) movement speed because sometimes, you just have to run lol) OR Black Cleaver if you want the Damage and Armor Reduction)... Infinity Edge (Damage which is great as I already explained, more crit chance and increased crit damage). For your other 3 items, it really depends... build armor or magic resist and health (items like Aegis, Force of Nature, Frozen Heart (love it although people make fun of it on Darius) and Warmog's.

My main point is in the damage output of Phantom Dancer and Infinity Edge. Once you build them you end up criting about half the time and your Attack Speed (depending on Masteries and Runes) is about 1.5-1.65 so you will be criting often which allows you to save mana when you widdle away their health with AA and Hemorrhage benefits already discussed.

With these stats, you can defend from/plow through minion waves with auto attacks (usually 1 hit each minion) and save your mana for the big bad enemies (HATE YOU FIDDLE!)

I have come to the realization (as you can see) that Darius cannot be a tank nor can he be a full out Attack Damage Champion. His lack of escape ability means that you have to balance the two.

Hope this helps! Feel free to respond! No disrespect intended..just notes from one Darius lover to another! (Btw, I use 21 points in offense which helps! and I will upgrade my masteries once I hit level 30).

Look forward to hearing from you!

Awesome guide! What you have is great, and what I want in a guide is coming. You should turn on "comment to vote", tho, harder to trollvote. The option is on the guide editing sidebar.
