Not Updated For Current Season
The masteries shown here are not yet updated for the current season, the guide author needs to set up the new masteries. As such, they will be different than the masteries you see in-game.
This is my build I use for Caitlyn to add some nice early survivability and easy early game kills. It's a slight tweak on many of the more popular Caitlyn builds that is well suited for players new to the champion or anyone that has had problems with her relative squishiness. And it's not all that bad if you consider yourself good with the champ, either.
This is my first build I have ever posted, and would love any feedback I could receive. Please don't downvote without a suggestion for the build's improvement.
Armor pen runes work great for Cait, so make your marks and quints comprised of desolation runes (Greater Mark of Desolation and Greater Quintessence of Desolation).
For your seals I suggest mana regen for all nine, and Greater Seals of Replenishment for that (her mana problems begin to abate late game, where the scaling runes really shine.
With your glyphs you have a couple of options, either Greater Glyphs of Celerity for cooldowns so you can spam Piltover Peacemaker even more. Or you can grab mana regen glyphs (either type, Greater Glyph of Clarity or Replenshment, and since they are not primary runes for glyphs, you have flexibility over which type you grab). I recommend all Glyphs of Celerity though for the increased chances of damage output.
Your typical 21/0/9 mastery set up here. I like to use Flash and Teleport as my summoner skills, but feel free to tweak the masteries to best line-up to your own summoner spells.
This is where the real difference comes in from my build and the rest.
I open up with a Long Sword and some potions. Soon as I have to recall I'll finish that Long Sword into Phage. Personally, I feel as though Phage is the best possible first item for Cait. The extra health and slow work wonders for your survivability and early kill count (especially if you are laning mid).
Next get your boots, Beserker Greaves. Attack speed is a must for Cait.
Follow that up with a Bloodthirster (grabbing Vampiric Scepter first if you need the survivability or BF Sword if you are having an even or higher K:D ratio for the damage).
Grab your Black Cleaver next (opening that build with the BF Sword) for the armor penetration you will most likely need at this point in the match.
Now, finish your Phage into Frozen Mallet for even more survivability and build a Phantom Dancer (for reasons I don't need to explain, it is a must-have on most carries).
For your final item, you have several choices. Madred's Bloodrazor is perfect if the enemy team has a lot of high-health champions and tanks. Another Bloodthirster is good (thanks to Cait's amazing farming ability, making her able to max it out faster than most any other AD champ). Or grab an Infinity Edge if you love the crits.
Flash is my favorite spell for escapes, but if Ghost suits your fancy, feel free to switch Flash for ghost.
I love Teleport. It's a spell I try to use on most all my champs (minus a select few it just really doesn't help with). A great all-purpose spell useful for a quick item buy, a chance to get right back into combat after a death or the ability to jump around the map for anyone who needs quick assistance.
Lots of other summoner spells work well for Caitlyn too, so feel free to experiment as you see fit. This is what I find works best for me.
The early Phage and Frozen malet work wonders for your survivability. I think it's a must have item for Caitlyn and there are not enough Caitlyn builds on this site that feature it. Leave a comment at tell me what you think.
I plan to update this guide in the future to feature images of items, runes, spells, masteries, etc etc throughout the text. But it's late right now and I'm tired so this is all I have for now.
