Elite500's Challenger Hwei Guide

By Elite500
Introduction
Hey hey people, multiseasonal Challenger streamer vlad otp Elite500 here, do you feel like your magic just doesn't pack a punch?

Did your ex leave you for a better, greater wizard than yourself? There there child, I am here to teach you some glorious invocations.

Today I will teach you how to play Hwei and feel like a true archmage.

https://www.twitch.tv/elite500/clip/FurryRespectfulLobsterPupper-NVFspFvqMinTJiqQ
Runes
I like to take Arcane Comet in 99% of the matchups however in some non interactive lanes such as something like Aurelion Sol you can feel free to go First Strike

You will need Manaflow Band to deal with the intense manacosts of your wizardries.

Hwei benefits HEAVILY from ability haste so taking Transcendence is highly recommended

Unless you are playing in forbidden dark cavern elos (korea masters) I HIGHLY suggest you take Gathering Storm over Scorch, hwei's ap scalings are one of the highest in the game, making his lategame borderline Blood Lord level threat.

Secondary into assassins you may run Bone Plating Overgrowth into things like Fizz Yasuo Yone, champions that need to hard commit on you to remove boneplating

Into every other matchup you may go Cosmic Insight to lower your teleport cooldown and your survivability with flash and Magical Footwear as Hwei has THE lowest base movespeed in the game, and the extra 10 movespeed from magical footwear feels incredible.
Build
Begin the game by always building Doran's Ring and two potions, a real arch wizard is never without his swag game.

Next build your first book, The Lost Chapter letting your insane mana costs free of their chains, allowing you to cast endless sorcery against those inferior wizards.

Build your Lost Chapter into either Luden's Tempest or Liandry's Torment, Luden's Tempest into more squishy enemy comps that do not build health and Liandry's Torment into ANY comp that even SLIGHTLY stacks hp[/b], you are not a true arch mage if you cannot chew through the enemies support Nautilus.

I personally prefer going Sorcerer's Shoes for the extra immersion, not wearing any disgusting sandal Ionian Boots of Lucidity, however you may build CDR shoes if the enemy team is really beefy AND you need more of your utility spells to peel for yourself.

After completing your mythic you should build a Horizon Focus, this item has absurd synergy with your kit, I have tested a plethora of other items second and nothing hits like a horizon focus charged SUN STRIKE Severing Bolt

Invoker Hwei has absurd high AP ratios on a LOT of his abilities so he benefits a lot from going straight Rabadon's Deathcap third, if the enemies are buying magic resistance however then do feel free to buy a Void Staff to penetrate their soft mantles

With these core items out of the way you are free to build any AP item your heart desires such as more CDR with a Cosmic Drive, stasis with Zhonya's Hourglass, or dare you become the SOUUUL COLLECTOORR with a Mejai's Soulstealer.
Abilities

Passive

Innate: Hwei's damaging abilities mark enemies hit for 4 seconds. Damaging them with a different ability consumes the mark to create an explosion beneath them, dealing 35 − 180 (based on level) (+ 30% AP) bonus magic damage to enemies in the area after 0.85 seconds.

Q Combos

Active: Hwei enters a disastrous mood, gaining access to its abilities as well as Wash Brush. He will exit the mood upon casting any of them.

Active - QQ: Hwei slings a fireball in the target direction that explodes upon colliding with the first enemy or reaching maximum range, dealing magic damage to all nearby enemies. The damage based on the target's health ratio is capped at 250 against monsters.

Active - QW: Hwei calls upon a lightning bolt to strike at the target location after 1 second, dealing magic damage to enemies within the area.

Against enemies that are immobalized or isolated from their allies, Severing Bolt deals increased damage based on the target's missing health. This bonus damage is capped at 300 against monsters.

Severing Bolt deals 50% damage to Minion minions and non-epic monsters.

Active - QE: Hwei marks a blazing path in the target direction. After 0.7 seconds, the path erupts into volcanic explosions every 0.175 seconds from the point of cast. Each explosion creates a shockwave that deals magic damage to nearby enemies.

Each explosion also leaves a lava fissure in its wake. A fissure lasts for 2.5 seconds, dealing magic damage every 0.25 seconds to enemies within the area and slowing them by 30%.

Molten Fissure's damage is reduced to 60% against minions and increased to 135% against monsters.

W Combos

Active: Hwei enters a serene mood, gaining access to its abilities as well as Wash Brush. He will exit the mood upon casting any of them.

Active - WQ: Hwei forms a current of water in the target direction, creating a path for a duration that grants him and allied champions bonus movement speed for 0.5 seconds, refreshing every 0.125 seconds while they remain in the area.

Active - WW: Hwei summons a pool of water at the target location, creating a protective zone for 3 seconds that grants him and allied champions a shield for 0.5 seconds while within the area. The shield refreshes and increases in strength by an amount every 0.264 seconds over the duration while they remain in the area.

Pool of Reflection's shield strength is reduced to 50% for allies.

Active - WE: Hwei surrounds himself in swirling flares that empower his next 3 basic attacks or ability hits within 9 seconds to each deal bonus magic damage and restore mana.

Stirring Lights' bonus damage is reduced to 50% against minions or monsters if applied by his area of effect abilities.

E Combos

Active: Hwei enters a tumultuous mood, gaining access to its abilities as well as Wash Brush. He will exit the mood upon casting any of them.

Active - EQ: Hwei launches a terrifying grin in the target direction that deals magic damage to the first enemy hit, knocks them down, and fears them for 1 second, during which they are slowed by 60%.

Active - EW: Hwei tosses an eyeball to the target location. Upon arrival, it expands into a dark gaze for 1.6 to 3.1 seconds based on cast distance, granting sight in a larger area. After 0.7 seconds of being placed, the eye locks onto the nearest visible enemy champion, immediately launching itself at the target and colliding with the first enemy hit to deal magic damage, reveal them for 2.5 seconds, and root them for a duration.

Active - EE: Hwei conjures a jaw at the target location that snaps after 0.627 seconds, dealing magic damage to enemies in the area and slowing them by an amount that decays over 1.25 seconds. Enemies that are not standing at the center when the jaw snaps are pulled there.

Ultimate Ability

Active: Hwei launches a globule of pure despair in the target direction that collides with the first enemy champion hit, afflicting them with an aura that grows over 3 seconds, reveals the target, and grants sight within its radius. Enemies within are both dealt magic damage and applied a stack of Despair every 0.25 seconds.

Despair: For each stack, the target is slowed by 10% for 0.25 seconds, stacking up to 12 times.

At the end of the duration or when the target dies, the aura explodes to deal magic damage to enemies within and remove all Despair stacks from affected enemies.

Spiraling Despair can only be cast if Hwei has not entered a mood.
How to Invoke
Hwei's complexity is extremely overexaggerated, it is quite simple you'll be able to play him
after just ONE game.

Pressing Q let's you choose from one out of 3 spells which all share the same cooldown, you can cancel that invocaiton by tapping R while invoking. Same with his W and E, after one game you'll have learnt what all the abilities do. Here is a list of what abilities you should use in which situations.

Your Signature of the Visionary (passive) is basically a Brand passive Blaze however you need only hit 2 spells because you are a better wizard then some ****ty guy on fire.

Use QQ Devastating Fire at the beginning of laning phase to poke out your enemies and incinerate feeble magic users, this ability feels similiar to a Karma Q. Inner Flame

Use QW Severing Bolt to cast a SUN STRIKE at incredible ranges, this ability has a built in execute and has WAY more damage when a target is either isolated or HARD cc'd, this ability has the highest burst damage making it essential to land in your combos.

Use QE Molten Fissure to cast a ******** RUMBLE ult The Equalizer, get ready to press this one a LOT because it lets you wave clear an absurd amount, oneshotting backline at level 9 and lets you create INSANE space in teamfights, this is an incredibly easy way to apply your passive and zone enemies.

Next we have the utility spells,

WQ Fleeting Current let's you **** out a ****ty movespeed amplifier in a direction, this speeds you up in both direcitons, letting your allies escape and giving you some mobility to dance around, I think this spell is mostly eclipsed by the other options.

WW Pool of Reflection puts down a decently large and good range bubble that gives you and all your allies an instant shield which also grows a bit stronger if you stay inside it, this ability is mostly used when you are taking down a baron and the enemy team is attempting to stop it with things like Ziggs R Mega Inferno Bomb, think of it as a stone soul for your team.

WE Stirring Lights gives you that one ability people pick Nami for not for the feet in that ONE skin consuming the marks with your auto's or abilities restores mana, resulting in a net profit of mana like a TF blue card, if you auto an enemy with this buff on you also apply a passive mark which is HUUUGE in situations like level 1 when you hit any Q ability on your lane opponent and then need only autohit them for a juicy passive proc.

Finally the E spells are all crowd control

EQ Grim Visage is your greatest abilitiy to escape the filthy disgusting hands of brutes such as yone Fizz Zed, you fire out a projectile that flies pretty fast and comes out pretty fast so borderline impossible to miss at melee range, this thing INSTANTLY fear your opponent, creaitng MASSIVE distance from you and that disgusting creature, extremely important to have your E off cooldown against assassins.

EW Gaze of the Abyss puts down an eye that grants you vision and if someone dares to walk near it during it's duration will ROOT them for 2 whole ******** seconds, putting this spell down in a teamfight combined with your rumble ulti makes it ungodly hard for enemies to gapclose to you, letting you single handedly control the ebb and flow of fights like a true archmage.

EE Crushing Maw spawns a mini sett pull Facebreaker, this spell is an incredible combo starter as it pulls enemies into the center allowing you to fling your spells at the inferior mage like a silverback gorilla flinging his feces at his enemies. This combos INCREDIBLY well into his ult which then also SLOWS enemies by a disguuuusting amount which then lets you hit a sunstrike Severing Bolt right on their head without any counterplay.

Hwei's Ult Spiraling Despair flings out a long distance FAT projectile that upon hitting enemies damages them and slows them like a ****ing WHITHER letting you have your way with anyone that dares enter your zone of destruction, after a few seconds this spell explodes with a god knows why 95% ap scaling absolutely DESTROOOOOOOOYING anyone in the blast radius
Pros and Cons
  • ✅ Your lategame is indeed almost bloodlordian level and completely invalidates certain comps like heavy melee ones, you have great followup to cc and absurd levels of zoning
  • ✅ when playing you feel like an archmage invoking spells out of the cosm (definetly not like a silverback gorilla flinging ****)
  • ❌ If you are SLIGHTLY out of position that enemy Olaf or Yone will be licking their lips VERY intensely wanting to feast on some of that very soft WIZARD FLESSHH.
  • ✅ Insane versatility due to having 10 spells
  • ✅ Able to waveclear an Ahri level amount, cheating your way out of tough laners and having mid prio.
Gameplay
You are piss weak earlygame and should focus VERY hard on lasthitting, try proc Manaflow Band with your QQ Devastating Fire, especially before you level up, if you do this you can instantly use the nami thing Stirring Lights to proc your passive for some really nice poke,

Try get a recall at 1100 for infinite mana Lost Chapter, oneshot the wave with WE, QE, tp back if you will miss lasthits, at this time you can start poking down your lane opponent, if you hit a few spells you are able to 100-0 them by first casting damage amp (nami thing) Stirring Lights then hitting your EE (sett pull) into a guaranteed ult and if they have no flash or escape, strike them down with a sunstrike, Q W Severing Bolt, if they have mobility slow them and melt their flesh off with QE Molten Fissure

You are INCREDIBLY flimsy and fragile, do NOT get caught lacking or you will find out VERY quick, almost all your spells are incredibly far ranged, letting you even help your team do baron behind the ******** baron pit and then still being able to teamfight, if any barbarian catches up to you in melee range it's goodnight for your wizardry days.

In the lategame try to stick your ult on any champ as it has such a huge aoe and slow effect it's incredible if it lands on anything, you can split up players like moses splits up the read seas with your rumble ulti Molten Fissure and your E W eye Gaze of the Abyss, if someone gets hit by both of these abilities it will proc your passive and deal NUCLEAR damage to that area.

If one of your teammates has easy telegraphed hard CC like a volibear stun try follow up with a sunstrike Severing Bolt as it does RIDICULOUS damage to CC'd targets.
Macro Tips
You are a TURBO lategame scaling mage and need a lot of farm to truly unleash your massive shlong on your enemies, always keep farming and scaling, dying without TP is EXTREMELY punishing not being able to eat farm while dead.

during fights you gotta position yourself like the biggest ***** in the world because if that enemy Lulu sneezes on you, youre about to crumple like paper.

during objective fights arrive extra early and make sure the enemies may not pass through to whatever you are fighting over.

Do not waste your E spells unless you are SURE you're safe, EW (the eye) Gaze of the Abyss is REALLY useful to slap down near you if you don't want it to be off cooldown.

Make sure at all costs that your midlane tower does not fall, if your tower is up and the enemy team can't siege it, they won't be able to wall through your jungle wherever they please, this reduces the amount of times your silly little teammates will get caught, thus increasing the time the game will last, letting you become the lategame god.

You can only really sidelane if your jungler or support is shadowing you, you are incredibly easy to pick off without more boolets, ping your friendly gorillas (jung and supp) to come with you on a magnificent sidelane adventure if you wish to partake in farming side waves.
