Introduction

Hi there this is my first ever guide to playing a League of Legends Champion and I figured that I would first cover my first and best champion Renekton, The Butcher of the Sands. This guide will not have any videos or pictures as it is my first guide but I will try my best to give you detailed info through sheer writing alone. If you don't like walls of texts I'll spare you the trouble now and direct you to check out my item build and skip the reading. However if you'd like to learn a thing or two about how to succeed with Renekton or are just looking for general info about the champion read on and I hope you enjoy.

If you are just trying out Renekton get ready for an easy champion to play but tricky champion to truly master and maximize with that's a croc-load of fun and fury. I truly invite people to try out Renekton and see what he offers. Now, on with the guide.

Runes

I go with mainly offensive runes because it helps Ren with early game harass and easier last hitting.

The 9 armor pen marks make you a little bit nastier early and gives you an early advantage in harass trades. I also feel these make farming a breeze early before you get to the point of mass farming potential.

I run flat armor seals and mr per level glpyhs to add to early game survivability which often times is the make or break difference in my lane.

Finally I run flat ad Quints as Ren is on the leaner side when it comes to ad as opposed to cdr and tankiness thus these give him that extra punch he needs early.

With this setup feel free to play semi agressively when you're comfortable enough with him (especially 1v1 top) because you can hit like a truck with your main combo which also most times ends with you not getting hit once and the added defensive stats make it that much more tough to out harass you.

Masteries

I run 0-29-1 on Ren taking all vital defensive masteries as well as reduced cooldowns in the defensive tree. I also take 1 point in Summoner's Insight for the recuded cooldown on flash.

These masteries are giving you reduced damage taken, health, health regen, cdr, and not to mention a slight tenacity buff to boot. Some would suggest going down the offensive tree for Ren and while that is not entirely ludicrous I personally enjoy the benefits gained from going the defensive route and I still do significant damage.

Items

I start cloth armor 5 health pots for increased early armor and crazy sustatin with 5 health potions along with healing form Cull of the Meek. The cloth armor is also soon built into Wriggle's Lantern as one of your early game core items.

Rush Wriggle's Lantern for lane sustain better cs and free ward. All around great item on Ren.

Grab boots of speed and make boot choice. 9 times out of 10 it should be merc's treads to counter heavy cc teams. In the event that you don't find yourself targeted and cced down I usually grab Ionian Boots of Lucidity for cdr. Once in a blue moon if I'm going to be roaming to help the team or facing a highly mobile enemy team I will grab boots of swiftness.

After boots build Brutlalizer which gives cdr and great dps for early to mid game.

I then buy a giant's belt for increased health and survivability which at this point drastically improves your game.

Next comes phage for slow chance and more dps/health.

At this point I generally find myself getting focused alot as I am a high threat target so I build a Guardian's Angel which gives good defensive boosts along with the active of being revived upon death. Great item on Ren because of his E ability Slice and Dice. When you die in a teamfight and you are revived you can instantly Slice and then Dice away which almost always results in a successful active and surviving when done correctly.

The next item on the list is frozen mallet which gives you perma slow. Perma slow plus Ren's ult? Plus Ren's stun? = one scary croc.

Force of Nature is my next purchase which is a great overall defensive cap item on Ren to wrap it with a bow on top. This bad boy gives you great mr to round out your defensive stats, very nice health regen to make you that much more unkillable, and a movement speed buff which is just icing on the cake at this point.

If for some reason the game is still going on at this point I upgrade my Brutalizer to Youmuu's Ghostblade which has a pretty nice active for Renekton with a short cd. Definately a nice wrapup item.

If the game is still continuing I will sell my Wriggle's in favor of a Bloodthirster to finalize the build.

Skill Sequence

I start W with Ren and max it second because it is his highest damage dealing ability early game and is also a CC which is invaluable for any level 1 fights that might occur.

I immediately take a point in E at level 2, maxing last, for a good level 2 combo of gap closer plus cc.

At 3 I take Cull of the Meek and max it immediately as it is the most overall beneficial ability Renekton has outside of his ultimate. This ability gives you sustain with it's heal, great damage when prioritized right, and it helps generate fury.

Of course you take a point in Dominus whenever possible.

Summoner Spells

I take flash and ignite when playing Renekton because flash is just op on him to say the least. His W works as an on next hit effect so you hit your W then instantly flash on top of them for an instant stun usually resulting in a kill for teamfights. This combo is ridiculous and just too good to pass up. When used correctly at level 6 when you get your ultimate you can tower dive an unsuspecting enemy and be collecting the kill before they knew what hit them.

Ignite is for doing that last bit of damage to secure a kill in the early game. Renekton is a semi snowball champion that does best when he gets a few kills to start off a match. Ignite is the perfect way to ensure when you get that perfect combo off even a pesky flash can't deny you your prize.

Summary

Renekton is a great champion that excels at doing respectable dps while at the same time being hard to kill. He is a nightmare in lane for most solo top champions and should be able to win most 1v1 situations. I'll close with saying that Renekton's biggest determining factor of skill cap is his fury usage and how you manage it. This is the difference between good Rens and great ones.

Again please note that this is my first guide and extremely noobish/poor but I hope that using this build will bring good games and stats for you like it has me. My biggest hope is that the few who read this and are interested in trying out Ren will get excited about him and give him a go. I feel like Renekton is a very good champion that is extremely underrated and he's a champ that deserves more play time.

Happy Croc Chopping!
