Not Updated For Current Season
The masteries shown here are not yet updated for the current season, the guide author needs to set up the new masteries. As such, they will be different than the masteries you see in-game.
This is my Galio build and i fair very well with it in most situations. My primary role with this build is support tank but the damage output is enough to keep people focused on me and not my squishy counterparts.
Most people tend to stack Abysmal Scepters and boost his MR to ridiculous levels but I find that this is an overkill and really takes away from his true potential. This item build can handle most situations and I rarely deviate from it as it gives me great MR and ARMOR as well as decent AP and most of the items are very cheap. I tend to not have mana issues mid to late game so I find the chalice to be a useless slot but to each their own. I just don't need the small MR and minimal mana regen. I tend to purchase this with builds focus'd around Archangels stacking as the regen is outstanding. Annie loves it for example :).
Abilities and Progression
ABILITIESGalio fires a concussive blast from his eyes, slowing and dealing damage to enemies caught near the impact point.
Galio fires a concussive blast from his eyes, dealing 60/115/170/225/280 (+0.6) magic damage to enemies near the impact location, and reducing their movement speed by 24/28/32/36/40% for 2.5 seconds.
This is a great spell for slowing and mass farming. Paired with a Righteous Gust you can decimate entire minion swarms in less than a second and then send them flying down the lane. The slow affect will keep that target champion close-by and Righteous Gust will speed your entire party up to keep the suckers from getting away
Galio shields an ally Champion, increasing their Armor and Magic Resistance, and restoring Galio's health each time that Champion suffers damage.
Galio shields a friendly champion for 4 seconds, increasing their Armor and Magic Resistance by 30/45/60/75/90. Each time the unit suffers damage, Galio is healed for 20/32/44/56/68 (+0.3). (-20% healing for each consecutive hit)
I love, love, love and love this ability. You can protect an ally with the defensive buff but you will find that you will mostly be casting this on yourself. Yes you can buff yourself with this and the results are outstanding. When Malzahar end game is healing you with his ult, you will almost want to cry. I always put this on pre-ult and this buff makes you near impossible to kill in most situations.
Galio claps his wings, unleashing a gust of concussive wind that damages enemies and leaves a directional draft in its wake that increases ally movement speed.
Galio unleashes a gust of concussive wind that deals 70/115/160/205/250 (+0.8) magic damage to all enemies in its path. A directional draft remains for 5 seconds, increasing the movement speed of allies passing through it by 20/24/28/32/36%.
Another great ability. As I stated above, this spell is awesome when paired with Resolute Smite. The burst farming potential is huge and you can push lanes faster than anyone when you get good at speed buffing the minion lines. This is also a great spell for speeding up your champions or yourself for many different situations including getting the hell out of dodge. ;)
Galio assumes the form of a statue, taunting nearby enemies and storing concussive energy as they attack him. Galio then bursts from his statue shell, releasing the stored energy to damage surrounding foes.
Galio channels for 2.5 seconds, taunting nearby foes and blocking 30% of incoming damage.
After channeling, Galio deals 220/330/440 (+0.85) magic damage to surrounding enemies, plus an additional 10% damage for each attack he suffered while channeling. Max 80% bonus damage.
Wonderful ult and I love it. With a good defensive build you can initiate 5v5 fights with this if done properly. The CD is a pain but when this guy is ready, be prepared to do some damage. People can get out of your ult before its time is up but you only have to cast or move to break the taunt and it still does full damage (yeah so you lose a few hits for the 10%/hit...its still great). I love to toss out a Resolute right at the end to finish off all those runners. I tend to pair Galio with a lot of Damaging players and I usually aim my ult for the squishy lines. This is why I take flash ;). With a Gust and Flash I can get to the Champs I want quickly and laugh as they try to take me down before it goes off. Don't forget that catching people on your turrets is also insanely profitable with Gust + flash and a big Taunting surprise. I love it.
I tend to even out all of my skills but it really depends on the situation. I love them all so I'm not really focused on any single one in particular.
Yes I typically go with the doran's for the hp and mana regen. I find that this keeps me in the lane longer and I can farm so well mid game that gold is not an issue. The starter item also changes depending on who I lane with. For example: If its Taric I'd grabto push my items faster.
First Trip to Base
I get these as soon as I can afford them unless the laning is going very very well and then I can also grab a Negatron Cloak.
Second Trip to Base
Of course I want this sucker quick. The HP and dodging that disable gank is just to much to pass up. The additional AP is just a bonus.
Third Trip to Base
I tend to grab these items together before I get their final counterparts unless I'm just rolling in the gold. Of course this is situational but this is a basic standard.
Fourth Trip to Base
Rylia's? on Galio? Sure. I find Rylia's to be a great addition. The slow affect, HP and AP are all extremely useful to him.
This is where the game turns interesting when their are a good number of physical damagers. With my bulwark on I can sit there and laugh as people try to burn me down. The health I have at this point is above average thanks to the Rylia's and Banshee.
Galio has the ability to farm quickly and efficiently and I find this item build to be easy to obtain.
Final Trips to Base
If the game goes this long then you are having one hell of a good time. From here on out just stack on 2 of these.
I love the initial HP from quits. Sue me. Early game can really decide the fate of the entire match so I use these to almost guarantee I will not get burst down by some surprise situation in the first few levels. I hate setbacks. I then add some CD and then boost my MR. It's fairly straightforward and can be changed depending on your play-style.
I really prefer the 9% CD to the small boost you get from the Defense line. That's just my opinion though and you can go any route you wish. I'm defensible enough with this build and this set up gives me 14.85%CD which is great when I snag that Golem. I don't like any of the CD items for Galio so I'm limited, but still want my ult and bulwark to refresh as quickly as possible.
Galio is seriously undervalued and that can give you a huge edge if you play him well. I tend to only play him with at least one of my static pre-made friends because I hate to lose control of a game due to my inability to carry a team with this build. It is possible, but unlikely, as you will depend on your allies to cooperate with you.
Best Duo partners for Galio are really anyone who can do quick and fast high burst DPS. Preferably AoE damage. I have had amazing results with Twitch, Katarina, Ryze and Annie but I also enjoy the company of Morgana, Nunu and AP Sion. I had a great Sion once in-game and, together, we killed 4 of 5 decent players within seconds. My favorites, however, are Twitch and Katarina due to their element of surprise (I hate to be obvious when I'm about to go BOOM) and long range griefing early game.
Alternate ideas: I played a match with another Support Tank and found that stacking auras from Aegis of Legion gave use an early edge in-game. I would consider exchanging either the Banshee Veil or an Abysmal Scepter to grab this sucker early (where i get veil now). I'd only do this with another stacker as the benefits are lower than I want for a single item slot.
