Okay, well, I see this build now and realize the bronze. Jesus. Like, I want to forget this. But you know, maybe I will try this build for fun (With the exception of Atma's obviously).

Maybe I'll make a more reliable build that people can actually use now that I'm Gold and sorta kinda somewhat know what I'm doing.

Alright, so I honestly doubt anybody would be looking at an outdated Garen build like mine is currently, but now that I've gotten out of Bronze and into Silver (Yeah, it happens sometimes), I've realized that building entirely as a tank is ineffective.

So, I shall be revising this build to fit with how I play him in this season.

Garen is not a tank, his primary role is DPS Bruiser offtank, just using him as tank is stupid because not only will he be focused down really easily, the CC will be the cause of his death. U need to balance his tankiness with his AD. Infact a randuins omen and a runic bulworg with Mercury treds is enough u can hit 230 armour and 191 MR easily, and then build a black cleaver with hydra and infinity edge or last whisper, boom 300-340 ad whilst having all that armour and mr with 3.3k health!

Overall, garen should never go in first leave that to a true tank (SHEN, RAMMUS,Volibear etc) and by going as a tank ur basically making garen redundant and useless, ur dishonouring him and his initial purpose he was created for!

P.s go and watch ranked vids or spectate, because the champs u think that are tanks are in fact not used that way!

Well, hi, I'm new in this site and forum. But I would like to support that Garen is also a tank in some manner. I usually build him with Warmogs, then Sunfire, then Thornmail, then Runic Bulwark, and lastly, Randuin's Omen. This kind of build makes Garen a great tank and a fighter. It's not because his description that he is a fighter and you can't see TANK anywhere, doesn't mean that Garen can't be a great tank. In fact, I have a winning streak of 10 games, all Garen, and most of them are even solo top. Garen's regen and passive armor and magic resist increase makes him a great tank of somehow that helps me hold the top tower for more than 30 mins. Though there's bias in me being a Garen-fanatic, I hope you guys could open up and try Garen as a tank. It's really fun and I "GAREN"tee it. Hehe, Thanks. ^_^

Many thanks, FlyToSky (catchy name too).

I'm going to test a few different items out with Garen and see how they do, but I should update this guide sometime soon, using your suggestions and testing! Until, I'm glad if this build helps anyone, or helped you, Fly!

I wonder if all those commenters actualy played garen as a tank...
Because really, after the updates to garen and for the preseason his offtank went down the slide, making me dich my most beloved champ, garen.
But after thinking myself after some idiot in my team screamed at me "WHY YOU NO TANK?!" I started to think... Maybe I really can play as a tank.
So I build myself a really tanky build (I havn't poblished it yet because it's incomplete and I'm lazy so it's private) and the first Item that I build is FM, that cover for the protecting of your team if you beleve it or not, I saved 3 teamates that were low by a jungler jax and the adc caitlyn with only Q and the slow from FM (also I killed caitlyn with ulti and brought Jax really low with E)
My point is, don't jugdge before trying.
One last thing for the build maker. The starting with Health RG and pots is not that wise. and don't rush to Warmog's Armor, you won't get a great benefit from it if something like your team's jungler come to gank or you got your laner low and you chase him (you need to catch up with the enemy as well)
Also, I don't find Sunfire Cape usefull in any mean... It's buying it early or not at all. I woouldn't put that as a core if I was you.
And you have to put Atma's Impaler as a core, it's needed or your enemy will preety much ignore you.
(edit) Btw: keep updating this, I want to see you show the f*cking world what a tanky garen is! +1

Quoted:
However, I do wish to address the Frozen Mallet and Black Cleaver choices. Basically, I myself enjoy LOTS of health (as might be pretty obvious because I think I overstated that fact). Each of those items gives you both health and attack, the latter of the two being more AD based. To me, this build has always worked, though now that it's been said, I might try to build more AD and see how that works out for me.

I totally agree that they're good items for Garen, I'm just saying that they aren't the best items for tanking. My bad for the misunderstanding.

Quite honestly, I believe that not having boots is just a preference of mine, and I guess I forgot to mention that (this thing took like three hours XD). If anything, the last item in the build can be swapped with boots, and you can purchase boots first. It's just I want to get Warmog's Armor as soon as possible. Regarding the question about Warmog's Armor ..... If you don't mind not having the passive stack, then you'll have a buttload of heatlh with no armor nor MR.

I choose Frozen Mallet because hitting an enemy once with you auto attack and then spinning provides win, for me at least. And, if I'm thinking correctly, your Q will apply the passive for the Frozen Mallet.

And quite finally, I don't know how to turn on C2V.... QQ

EDIT: nevermind, I figured it out. XD

Dude fast turn C2V because of the troll votes!:) Nice guide i really liked your idea +1. BUT! Frozen Mallet is a very bad decision for garen. You are not dealing dmg with your auto attacks, and thats why you won't be able to use the passive bonuses for it, if you can give me a good reason why Frozen Mallet then i'll accept it:D
If i could help, please check out my guides and share your taughts with me

I like this build (aside from missing boots of course), and while I agree that Garen should not be a Main Tank in a "competetive" game, he sure makes a pretty impressive Off Tank. So, maybe this guide should be called, "Garen, the Off Tank of Demacia." Overall though, I like this guide b/c it gave me some ideas for my OT build for Garen. Also, wondering if anyone has an opinion on stacking Warmogs, terrible idea? Decent idea?

Fine build but i take 1st boots and 3 hp pots, health regen is no needed cuz of his passive.
