The Chalice is because using the Q eats up mana quicker than Drunken Rage can regen (20s cooldown is brutal at times) and the reason the Q is leveled up first is to get your farm on for the expensive toys later on.

sorry but

with this build u tank nothing (maybe in ur dreams).... if u want to tank maybe max drunken rage first (the only tank skill) and buy more solid object(chalice of armony?!?!?)

and why not 21 points in defensive masteries?????.... why all that mana????

all wrong... really

I think Banshees is a better first item since catalyst = AWESOME in lane

heres a +1 since some douche gave -1 :o and its a good build, not many kills, but tons of assists :D

Using a variation of this build,different masteries and and ability order, i went 12 0 14 with 5 buildings, way more than i should have as a tank, all who say gargas cant tank just haven't seen someone who knows how to play him right.

if you're tanking, i would suggest a few more points into drunken rage early on, mainly for the damage decrease. on my tank build i have the final mastery point in defense, bringing it to 30% damage reduction for 20 seconds.

Honestly I find Gragas tanking a joke. I have never seen a good one in all the games I have played. I feel like he is a much better DPS than a tank. I play as an AP gragas and I have killed full teams before no problems at all, but tanking gragas is odd. He really does not have as much survivability as you would want for a real tank. Running away is something gragas is a god at but that is not something tanks do. -1

Really fun spec! Went 3-1-14 last game. +1!

Love this build. Easily the best (and most fun) way to build gragas. You have great dps coupled with great tanking. Not sure why theres so many AP builds out there, as only 2 of his skills benefit from AP. Tank is definately way better.
