Heimerdinger, I feel, is the best man for mid. Most players in mid want to use Ashe, Teemo, Twisted Fate, Sivir, Tristana, Twitch, etc to go mid. None of these hero's can even come close to beating heime. Any hereo with an AOE can be dangerous though you need to place your turrets effectively to minimize loss when they use their AOE attack. One thing to keep in mind. Make sure you push to place turrets as close to the enemy turret as possible. In order to win mid with heime you need to go AP. You can try to go health/armor but you will be a poor attacker and not be effective for end game.

Abilities:

I would suggest either heal and clarity or teleport and clarity.

Gameplay:

After you take down the first turret you need to do a little camping in th mid. 4 turrets in front and 2 behind. You want to make sure that the rear 2 turrets can attack any minions hitting the front four but just barely. You also need these turrets for rear protection. If you have an enemy eve or rat it is an absolute must that you get an oracle elixer or a a vision ward. This way they can't sneek in and set you up for a gank. If you see the gank coming in advance make sure you save your abilities for it. Don't use mana and keep the grenade ready. when they come in on you, grenade first the upgrade a red turret to increase it's att speed and then missle. After that run around in between your turrets until they dead or you are. If you have the Zhonya's ring use it along with a heal if possible. I have been jumped by the entire enemy team and survived a number of times doing this (without help). Usually killing off 2-3 enemy heros.

Item builds:

I know nashors tooth and the rageblade seem like a bad choices but look at them and you will understand. With Nashor's you 30% att speed, +55 AP and a cooldown reduction of 25% added to the cooldown reduction you get with "Upgrade". The rageblade is +35 att damage, +45 AP and a 4% increase to att speed and +6 AP per physical hit dealt (stacks 8 times) that is another 32% attack speed and 48 AP while you beat down minions.

I average about 450-500 AP, my high being 689 and 550-650 crits with missles. Which for heime is not bad.

The one thing you need to remember is that with this build you are pretty squishy and can get owned quick. Zhonya's Ring gives you 2 sec invincable but you cant do anything while it's active. If you are by your turrets then who cares it's worth watching 6 turrets take down a hero. Never leave your turrets until your group is ready to push or you are 100% positive that all enemies are dead or accounted for. Then grenade enemy turrets in your lane. Most if not all of your deaths will be out of range of your turrets or during the final push phase.
