Introduction

Hey there! My name is Sam. I am a level 9 currently sitting at 3100 trophies in hog mountain and I am here to give you a guide on how and when you should use the archers inside of Clash Royale.

The archers are a very versatile and popular choice of card, spawning two archers who are able to hit both ground and air troops.

How To Use

Archers are very defensive units. They have a relatively high DPS for only 3 elixir but low HP, meaning that you will have to place them behind a tower or tank to keep them alive. They are very effective at taking out all troops with the exception of heavy tanks (golem, giant etc.) and can shut down many pushes when placed well.

If you are at 10 elixir and you do not have the right cards for a proper push, splitting your archers by putting them in the middle behind your king tower is an effective way to cycle back to your push cards while also defending both towers. Remember, archers do not always have to be together to be effective. An alone archer is still able to deal big damage if kept alive.

For fast moving troops/troops that only target buildings (hog rider, battle ram etc.), you should place your archers in front of the tower to deal as much damage as possible before they reach your tower so you minimise the damage taken.

Archers can also be used on offence but this is very situational and should not be done consistently. The only time I would really recommend using your archers on a push is if they are easily countering your general push with a troop like minions or mega minion because archers can take these out quickly. I would not use them against minion hoard because they do not kill the minion hoard quick enough and by the time they have, your push will already be gone.

Rules Of Use

Here are some basic rules to follow when using the archers:
  • Keep them away from any direct splash damage
  • On offence, always keep them behind a tank
  • Always try to keep them away from other squishy cards to prevent extra value for their fireballs
  • Only split them when you are at 10 elixir and need to cycle

I will go through every card (with the exception of a couple of spells and the elixir collector) and how big of a threat they are to archers. These will go in order of low to high threat.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the archers is a very versatile card and is a viable choice in almost any deck. It counters many cards and is not too easily countered. If you are looking for a defensive card for your deck then archers should definitely be considered.
