Introduction

Jax is a powerful assassin that has a set of skills geared towards completely obliterating a single target then moving on to DPS any survivors. In order to reach his full potential, first Jax needs a lot of noobs auto attacking him. Then, Jax needs some noob to sit there and take 10 consecutive hits in a row.

It is easy to find the noobs you need at lower summoner levels, but it is few and far between that you find experienced players willing to submit to the grandmaster. Experienced teams aware of Jax's abilities will easily counter Jax by nuking him with abilities, kiting him to death, or simply running away. In this guide you will find strategies and tactics to help deal with Jax's weaknesses.

The key to victory with Jax is item management. Jax can fulfill the role of tank, assassin, AD, or AP just through item selection alone. Knowing which weapon to use - and when to use it is the point of this guide. Hopefully this guide will move you from being a pub stomper to a true grandmaster.

Masteries

I recommend 21/9/0 or 9/21/0.

A key point is to have both Archaic Knowledge and Nimbleness. You should use 21/9/0 if you are able to play aggressively with good positioning. You should never be the focus of the enemy, you should always be doing more damage to them, and they should only be fighting you when they have no chance of running away.

9/21/0 is more useful for team fights and mitigating harassment.

Runes

6x Greater Mark of Insight
3x Greater Mark Of Alacrity
9x Greater Seal of Evasion
9x Greater Glyph of Alacrity
2x Greater Quintessence of Insight
1x Greater Quintessence of Alacrity

MARKS
There are many choices with marks. Attack speed runes will benefit Relentless Assault most. Magic Pentration to increase AP burst. I go with Magic Pen to pack as much damage into my first empower as possible.

SEALS
Dodge seals are always a good alternative to armor, even more so on Jax.

GLYPHS
I find myself switching my glyphs all the time. Leveled magic resistance, attack speed, and flat cooldown are all good options. However, I use AS because it is always useful no matter the enemy team composition. I favor AS over CDR.

QUINTESSENCES
With Magic Pen Quints and AS Quints you will do a lot of damage early/mid/late game.

I do not suggest dodge quints as they are less efficient than dodge seals and you do not need the additional dodge.

Items

I start off with boots of speed for the movement and for the extra health pots, and for it can lower the price on my ninja tabi. After i get my ninja tabi i go directly for the rageblade for the extra AS. Early on in early game with your ultimates passive and the rageblade you should win almost any 1v1 depending on the other champion. After the rageblade i go strait for Gunblade for the Lifesteal/Spellvamp. Those two extra health giving options will let you stay in the lane longer and last in team fights way longer. Now with the rageblade included you will win any 1v1 with your exhaust and all of your AS. Then i go for more Lifesteal with Starks Fervor to be unstoppable in mid/late game. Then i go for Madreds for extra AS/AD. Then i finish it all off with the Deathcap for way more AP to do massive damge with my ultimates passive.

Lane Partners

In the early game you really want someone to have your back when the 2v2 goes down. The following champions are very good lane partners for jax early game.

Sion:
Sion is a very good lane partner for Jax because of his stun and his tankiness. With sion you will either get 1 or 2 of the champions in the opposing team.

Xin Zhao:
jax and xin zhao WILL tear the lane up no matter what, especially against squishy champions. His three hits and your Q+W will down the enemy champion very quickly.

Kog'Maw:
kog'maw is another champion that will help you in the laning phase of the game. Once kog'maw is level 6 you two will dominate the lane.

Taric:
taric with the heal and stun is very helpful for jax in early game. You will get mad kills with these two in the lane.

These lane combos i have used and were very successful.

Summary

In conclusion jax is the game turner. Jax is not that hard to master but with time you will see improvements and you will be soloing people in no time.
