Not Updated For Current Season
The masteries shown here are not yet updated for the current season, the guide author needs to set up the new masteries. As such, they will be different than the masteries you see in-game.
About me :P
Hey guys, I've been playing League ever since the Ziggs patch. I'm relatively new but I learned fast and grew to love this game. I originally played the AD carry slot in teams. Then I shifted around and eventually began to love solo top. I've been using Mobafire for my guides since I started playing LoL. After tinkering around I found some builds that I made that worked better IMO than some of the guides on here. So I decided to take a crack at making guides.
Jayce is a hybrid ranged melee champion that requires use of both forms and his abilities. His play style reminds me of Nidalee, who is my current main so I decided to pick up Jayce. I disliked him at first since his stances were harder to get used to than Nidalee and her cougar form. After a couple matches I grew used to Jayce and decided to make a guide for him. Constructive criticism would be appreciated, such as how to add images and such. Not just like "Jooz sucks UR guide is terrible" I'm still new to this so any help would be appreciated
This guide explains how I use Jayce in top lane and as an AD carry in bot lane. This is not meant to say any other guides are bad, but this is how I like to play Jayce. Please read the whole guide before rating and commenting. Please and thank you ^^
I like to have mostly flat AD in my Marks and Quints for better early game laning. As Jayce is really farm dependent his early game farming is VITAL. However I do pick up some armor pen as it does help early game and still carries well into late game. I take flat armor marks to counter most tops who are AD, as well as other AD carries in bot lane. I also take flat MR in my glyphs. Some might say Mr per level is better due to AP damage not doing much early game, however again Jayce's early game is vital so any advantages early game will benefit him greatly.
For Top Jayce I take 1 point in Offense for Improved Exhaust. Then I go down the Defense tree giving better sustain and durability early game which carries well into late game. Then I get improved flash in utility as well as increased movement speed and due to being in fights less time spent dead will help him greatly.
I prefer to take Exhaust and Flash as my summoner spells.
Exhaust makes dueling easier as well as making ganks easier and more succesful.
While Flash makes surprise attacks and escaping easier.
Ignite is a viable choice as Jayce does have a chase however I just fine Exhaust to be a better spell on everyone but AP carries.
For Jayce, I take his Q at level 1. This gives a pretty good poke in cannon stance and a chase move in hammer stance. At level 2 I take his E, giving an even bigger poke in cannon stance and a mini nuke in hammer stance. Then I get his E at level 3 for maybe small exchanges or some early tower pushing. I take his Ult whenever I can for the added bonuses it gives. For Solo Top Jayce I max his E first as it is a huge damage source in hammer stance which is what you will be in for most of fights. I then max his Q for pokes in cannon stance to weaken enemies before fights. Last I max his E as it needs at least 3 ranks to get the same damage per hit from each attack as an auto attack. It is good for pushing towers and small fights at level 1 so I leave it to max until level 18.
I start with Cloth Armor and 5 health pots. This gives more durability against most Tops and health potions gives more lane sustain.
On my first recall I like to at least buy 1st tier boots and a Vampiric Sceptor(800 gold) making kiting and sustain easier.
I then finish up Wriggle's Lantern for some good lifesteal, armor, AD, and occasionally the proc. However I really like this item due to the ward it gives which is needed for top laning.
I then finish up my Merc Treads for the tenacity and some MR.
I build a Phage for a bit more health and the on-hit proc.
And depending on how your game is going you could finish up your Frozen Mallet before you get a Chain Vest. However, after Frozen Mallet I buy Atmas's Impaler to give some good armor and making Jayce become a real threat in fights now. Then I get Maw of Malmortius to get some more MR and some good AD
