Well, you do have enough hp for most problems. Since you get a Doran's Shield. But sometimes that's not enough. I find myself squishy even with flat hp quints. Hp is sometimes more important than ap..
You only answered the questions about Void Staff and Hp..
Please read my comment again and answer the rest of my questions.
Just to clarify: I'm not completely sure about which is better; Havoc, Tenacity or Meditation(12utility). What do you think? And which of these have you tried? (I didn't make it clear enough in the last comment)
It's not about what's safer, it's about what's best and most flexible..
I know a lot of people wonder which is the point of getting AP that way.
I do feel responsible for not including that fact in my guide.
The reason is, I kill 2 times my lane opponent and then go for a needlessly large rod.
Nobody in early game has a real way to counter 110 of AP being lvl 6, or even less if you buy an elixir of brillance.
By the time I have the first zhonya ring, I always have more than 5 kills and some assists. And the game usually ends after I buy the second Needlessly large rod.
And, regarding about being squishier than anyone. If you did well enough at early game, you should have enough AP to kill anyone with nullsphere/force pulse combo or at least letting them live with less than 2/4 of hp left.
Ill create another build I usually use, which is safer and easier to use than this.
Thanks for the feedback
The thing is, I buy lots of AP so that they cant keep up with my AP (Or even if they do, they risk damage output, which is useful anyway)
On one hand, I do understand that you need a void staff there to counter enemies magic resistance (If they have tanks or enemies who care about the sick damage you do). By bad, should have said that at least
But on the other hand, Lich Bane is useless. Mana, movement speed? Worthless. I prefer to get more needlessly large rods (Which has more AP Per Gold than Lich bane). And if you want to go for it for the damage you can deal based on your AP, I believe it is not worth unless you have lots of money to spend (And at last 2 needlessly large rod)
One Zhonja's Ring is all you need. More than that and you're just wasting gold... If you really just want insane amounts of ap try stacking Archangels' Staffs. With 3000 mana they'll give ~135ap each(you'll most likely have 3500 or more mana lategame). That's more than a Zhonja's Ring, they also give lots of mana-reg and mana. To the point of making clarity useless(even one is enough), which means you can get a better summoner spell. Much better to stack.
But there are items that are more important than more ap...
Void staff gives more dmg than a zhonja's ring if your target has more than ~60mr. Everyone who's not a complete idiot would get mr if a magic dmg champ is dominating their team. There's no pride in dominating noobs..
As Gigaffect said; Lich Bane is a good item if you want some extra nuke dmg. The only problem is that you have to be in melee range, which is kinda risky.. The dmg is physical so you should activate the passive for some armor pen.
Why: You can't tank anyone in late game, it's better to prepare yourself to deal tons of damage
Why: Its nearly impossible to land a x7 stacked riftwalk in a teamfight without dying in less than 2 secs
Btw; I've actually landed a 8x Riftwalk :P. Got a triple kill soon thereafter and - best of all: didn't die! ^^ Just did it for the bragging rights. I would never seriously try to kill anyone that way..
Why: Its a waste of mastery points. To get havoc you have to spend points on lots of useless masteries. I'm the living proof that you don't need havoc to get 20 kills without dying at all
I've thought about trying something similar to this out. With 12utility, reg seals and different items, without clarity. But I feel that I will lose too much damage if I don't get Havoc and I just love how much easier it is to last-hit(gain about +10dmg vs creeps). But I'm still not completely sure about which is better though; Havoc, Tenacity or 12utility. I think one thing is pretty clear though; that both Strength of Spirit and Archaic Knowledge are necessary.
Can't believe you don't get mana-reg(/lvl) seals. +5ap or +1mana/5sec per lvl, 16/5@lvl18. Personally I see a clear winner in the mana-reg..
I did notice a very cool thing though. You use exactly the same stratrgy as me in mid! :)
Works like a charm! ^^ As long as you don't face any of your natural enemies.
