Throw this guide i will try to pass on you, the way that i play Katarina. Before we start you need to know that this guide refers to v1.0.0.109 patch.I will try to keep it updated!
This guide will become more profitable if you have a tank by your side (Shen, Rammus, Amumu,etc).On the other side, this guide will be probably useless in case that you got a score like 1/8/2 (low kills, low assists = no charges in Mejia's and a lot of fed) in around 20 mins play.I hope to find this guide useful. First of all you need to know that Katarina is a mage!An AP/AD mage. your skills will do magic damage even if you build your Katarina with AD items.So keep in mind that the magic penetration isn't that useless to you...

voracity:

The passive that makes Katarina a perfect assassin! Plus gold for each assist or kill having 15 second cool down reduction after them!Now you have some reasons to play aggressive!

Tips:

*Hmm an enemy is trying to stay behind the turret having 100 hp? Shumpo in.. and then Shumpo out..
*If you step in a team fight, usually there is no a comeback. Killer Instincts ON! Shumpo in , use your ulty and your Cool Downs (even from spells) and "let the bodies hit the floor" the faster you have an enemy down, the faster you will kill the next one.. and the next one and.. the last one. (1x Kill = CD reduced 15 sec . 2x Kills + a few sec = OH ****! You Got your Ulty again!! 3x Kills = Hit R again!)

Bouncing-Blade:

this will be your main weapon. An annoying ability that will harass your opponents :)

Tips:

*Use it to do last hits , trying to hit minions next to your opponent so the blade will hop upon him!
*Apply healing reduction to any target that you will hit with your blade (combining with your Killer Instincts ability).
*Hunt your enemies slowing em(combining with Rylai)even you have to pass throw minions.

Killer Insticts:

Extra dmg? hmm press W. I use to leave that spell for about 7 lvls but dont make the same mistake as me! 8-24 extra dmg per hit or ability is very useful!plus the healing reduction or the dmg reduction.. place at least one point before the 6th lvl.

Tips:

*Fighting someone like Fiddlesticks,Morgana,Vladimir,Dr Mundo will be much more easier if you are hitting em with Bouncing Blades having the Killer Instincts on.
For example:
1) WRONG WAY Katarina vs Fiddlesticks.
Katarina --- Killer Instincts ON -> Shumpo -> Bounsing Blades -> Ulty
this rotation will probably kill your Katarina cause:
Fiddlesticks: could easily just drain you to death.. placing you some fear effects upon you.
2)RIGHT WAY to fight Fiddlesticks
Katarina : Shumpo - > Killer Instincts -> Bouncing Blades -> Ulty
This time Fiddlesticks will drain you with a 50% reduction..
Now lets think about a DR MUNDO tank during a team fight .. Instincts.. Blade.. and his ulty will not work like he was excepted.Funny isn't it?

Shunpo:Blink and dmg... Blink and run...

Tips:

*Harass your enemies.Shumpo (hit, and then use your Blade) your enemies while they are separated and then return to your safe position. (this could be happen from your 2nd lvl).
*Shumpo in a fight that has already start.
*Shumpo is not only an offensive skill. Targeting an incoming minion or player (enemy or not) could help you to avoid some deaths. Using your Killer instincts you could make your shumpo-runaway easiest while it transforms Katarina to 'tank' for 3 seconds . And remember You are able to use Shumpo upon mushrooms too (in case you got a teemo by your side).
*Use your Shumpo upon an incoming minion while you are hunting an enemy with LOW health having ghost spell on, so you will be closer for a Bouncing Blade use and a highlight kill!

Death Lotus: Your lethal weapon! The way to shut downs , Double Kills , Triple Kills...Combining with Voracity you will get lots of kills during each team fights , charges for your Mejia's , and goold ofc!

Tips:

*Do not keep your ulty.. SPAM it even for one target with 100 hp . You will get it back fast (Small cd) and you will get it faster back if you kill your victim too..
*When you are facing stealthy enemies you dont have to be afraid cause your ulty is like a Sonar ! When it is active, you are able to click it that means some one is around you, stealthy or someone is hiding inside the brash next to you.. so take advantage and surprise em !!! USE your ulty. You will save your life or you will take a kill. (this will not happen if you have to face a good shaco or an evelin with hp). With this trick you could kill Akali and Teemo while the are trying to hide themselves.

After 30min playing you got about 15mins till the end, so try to have the blue aura all the time. And have the following text ready " I KNOW THAT KATARINA DOESNT GOT MANA" I WANT IT FOR THE CD REDUCTION "you will have to write it in ally chat for sure. As far as the red one, I dont think that is that useful to Katarina but its good to have an extra slow from your blades this time.

Laning alone or with a team mate

Drink your Healing pot when your life reach the 30% or less (Hugging the turret ). Katarina is a very aggressive toon with skills (annoying) that could easily make your enemies want you dead at any cost. So having your Katarina (bait) with 30% life your opponents will try a tower dive . And then its time to strike!

Amumu, Nunu, Kassadin (personally I havent find a way till now to face him successfully) , Swain, Anivia , Mordekaiser, Gangplank, Gragas, Malzahar,Urgot ,Zilian, Galio..
You could stand against em.. but you will not take the easy kills that you need!!!
Co-Lane :
Pantheon ,Irelia , Amumu, Mordekaiser, Gragas, Shen, Garen, Rammus, Malphite, Poppy, Tryndamere , Xin Zhao
*Generally you are in need of characters that are able to step into a fight anytime.
