Introduction

Alright, in this guide to Kennen, I am going to tell you how to use him properly for ultimate lane control, kills, and how to survive to keep those stacks of Mejai's at 20. If Kennen gets the right gear he isn't squishy and his magic pen. plus ability power are strong enough to down anyone. Please read the Runes category because I don't actually use the "Greater Seal Of Knowledge" runes.

Masteries

For the Masteries, I only put 9 points in offense for the sole reason that all you really need in that tree is the magic pen. I don't really auto attack a lot with Kennen because my abilities are so strong and they come back so fast. So I decided to go survivability with the defense tree. Depending on how aggressive you are laning with Kennen through the first 6 levels, you can choose to either put 2 more points on the evasion mastery or you can put the 2 points on the defensive mastery.
If you lane aggressively with Kennen, (like myself) the I suggest to put the 2 points on the defensive mastery because when you auto attack the enemy champ you will notice all the minions focus you. Well they won't deal a lot of damage to you with the defensive mastery and with doran's shield you gain the health lost by minions fairly quickly.

Runes

Ok, well first off you are probably wondering why I have 5 Greater Seal of Knowledgement. Well I have to put that there because this website doesn't have the 5 runes I actually use. The 5 other seals I get for Kennen are called "Greater Seal Of Lucidity", the stats are +0.064 Energy regen/5 per level (+1.15 at champion level 18). The Reason for getting the energy is because "E" takes away so much energy when used that when I have 20 stacks of Mejai's I tend to run out of energy in team fights and I find it useful to have a lot of energy regen.

Items

Doran's Shield. When you get Doran's shield for your first item, don't sell it until you're ready to get your last item. Doran's shield is a pretty good item to keep throughout the game because it just adds to your survivability.
Sorcerer's Shoes are a must. My build is mainly focused around magic pen. and ability power and the +20 magic pen you get early game really helps you take down enemy champs. If you're thinking about getting Boots of Swiftness with Kennen don't, because it is a waste with the 3 moves we have to run away, Ghost, Cleanse, and Lightning Rush.
Mejai's Soulstealer is also a must for the ability power and cool down reduction it gives at 20 stacks.
Ryali's Crystal Scepter is a great item for Kennen. It provides ability power, slows targets we hit with our lightning rush, and gives him not so squishy. You will find out that with this item it is pretty hard to kill you before you kill them.
Rabadon's Deathcap this item is the item that puts us over the top. It gives Kennen a huge boost in ability power, especially if you have a lot of stacks on Mejai's by now.
Abyssal Scepter This item is perfect for Kennen. When you jump into a team fight with your ult and you have this item basically whoever is in your ult has reduced magic resist, which makes your ult hit that much harder combined with more survivability and ability power the item brings you.
Void Staff
This item just puts salt in the wound. Gives your more ability power and plus it's magic pen. If tanks were not scared of you before, they will be running in your presence if they know whats good for them.

Summoner Spells

The main reason why I decided to have bothCleanse andGhost is because you will notice that you tend to get focused from time to time. Well with this combo you should be able to outrun just about anybody, and keep popping "E" (Lightning Rush) to escape. If you get stunned, snared, slowed, etc. just pop cleanse and leave them in the dust. I can't count how many times this combo has saved me.

Skill Sequence

I see a lot of Kennen guides who upgrade thundering shuriken first, and I disagree with that for a few reasons. First off if your laning against someone who is pretty smart and hides behind minions, your shuriken is going to hit the minions every time. Secondly, this move isn't a guaranteed hit every time. Thirdly, (besides ultimate) the shuriken isn't your strongest move.

So the move I upgrade the most is Lightning Rush for these reasons. It is your strongest move and the more this move is upgraded the shorter cool down you have which makes getting away is a lot easier.

Then for farming and damaging purposes I level Electrical Surge when I am unable to level Lightning Rush. Lightning Rush + Electrical Surge allows you to farm gold from minions with ease, as well as give you a 2nd stun on champs if your use your ult.

The move I upgrade the towards the end of the game is Thundering Shuriken. My main reason for upgrading this move last is because this move is mainly to set up a kill by marking a champ with a mark of the storm or I use it to check bushes to make sure that I don't get ganked. When you throw your Shuriken in a bush and you see it stop moving you know that you have hit someone inside the bush and it really helps you with your need to stay alive.

Lane Control

Kennen is a really great champ for controlling a lane. All you really have to do is "E" through minions to champion (if you can't hit champion with E no problem but preferably you want to hit him), throw "Q" shuriken at champ and once the shuriken hits start running back towards your minions while you hit "W" Electrical Surge. This combo kills minions and hurts champs a lot. During this process if you do get stunned, etc. you can always pop cleanse to avoid taking mass damage. Your cleanse spell comes back relatively quick so don't be afraid to use it. While you wait for your abilities to come back throw your "Q" shuriken in the meantime. Then rinse and repeat.

Double Stun

Once you hit level 6 you are able to stun a champ 2 times in a matter of seconds when using the right sequence of abilities. This double stun gives me a lot of kills and is amazing in team fights. The sequence of buttons pushed to get a double stun is E,R,Q,W this will work only if you hit the champ with all of your abilities. Sometimes you can miss with Q and still get a double stun off, it really depends on how many stacks of "mark of the storm" you have. But no matter how many stacks you have if you hit the champ with all of these moves you will get a double stun. The first stun occurs in your ult, once you see that they have recovered from the stun pop Q and W as fast as possible for an additional stun. Once you get the hang of it, it's simple and your team gets a free kill.
