Introduction

Hello and welcome to my guide to Tank Amumu, this build/guide is just a general guide on which items you should get. This build as with any real tank build varies depending on what the enemy comp is, so if you are up against a heavy melee team build more armor such as a Thornmail or if you're up against a heavy magic team build more magic resist such as Force of Nature and so on.

This build specifically is just a basic build on what items I get regularly say versus a well rounded team.

Thank you and please rate and comment as you see fit.

Runes

My rune choices are Health and Mana Regen since in my gear I don't really aim for either and gear more for mitigation. Health is obviously important, you need it to live so it's always helpful and usually the more the better. Mana Regen is important since Amumu has a toggle ability called Despair and can burn your mana out very quickly if you're not careful or get stuck in a long team fight and since Blue Buff usually goes to a mage or support you will need this to be more effective in your lane and in late game.

If you feel you absolutely need more mitigation than what the gear can provide you may go with Armor Per Level Seals and Magic Resist Per Level Glyphs.

Items

The core of what makes a tank a tank besides his tool box of spells. You will constantly change your items depending on what the enemy comp is, as I stated in the Intro you will aim for more Armor or Magic resist depending.

You should always use Merc Treads, Aegis of the Legion and Sunfire Cape as your core order varies depending on how well you're doing. If you're doing really well grab a Sunfire Cape before Aegis of the Legion if you would like the AoE. If you seem to be having trouble in early game team fights then Aegis of the Legion should come first as it will help you AND your team mates survive longer thus the whole point of being a TANK.

Skill Sequence

This is pretty simple Bandage Toss first for potential First Blood then 1/1 in Despair and Tantrum as you level and grab ultimate every time you can.

Summoner Spells

Again pretty simple, Amumu does not have any escape ability to help him in tight spots so Ghost and Flash are recommended. Cleanse instead of Flash is an option if you'd like to change it up but almost all other spells pale in comparison to Ghost and Flash. Ghost is good for chasing and fleeing and Flash is great for the same but is also AMAZING for initiating if you should happen to miss or get juked on your Bandage Toss.

Team Work

Going to make this straight forward so it's simple for everyone. You should always be the first one in and last one out of every fight. You should ALWAYS be the one initiating team fights and soaking up the burst damage from the carries. Eat skill shots when you can for your ranged/carry/support if they go down you will soon follow.

In general you want to pick an enemy carry or DPS mark them so your team knows who to focus turn on your Despair and try to land your Bandage Toss on them. Once you land your Bandage toss, if enough enemies are in the area around you cast your ultimate and spam your Tantrum as much as you can to assist in the AoE damage. After the enemy carry/DPS is down focus the closest enemy Champion who is at low health and continue to try to kill them.
