Introduction

Everyone knows Lux due to her legendary laser and the many different uses she has of it. Lux is an awesome character, she can nuke the enemy team with a spammable ult and sit back and chill, shield her allies, and deal damage out of this world.

You are a Sniper, Not a machine gun

Before we get to the beef of this guide, I'm going to highlight this important paragraph. YOU ARE A SNIPER. YOU STAND BACK, YOU DEAL MASSIVE DAMAGE. YOU DO NOT GET IN CLOSE. DO NOT RUN IN LIKE OLAF OR XIN ZHAO EXPECTING TO TRIPLE KILL THE THREE GANKING YOUR BUDDY. If you are getting hit and DYING. You are just TOO close. Period. I cannot stress this enough. I see alot of Lux players running in and trying to kill a teemo with 100 hp with all of their skills on cooldown, and 4 of the enemy team MIA.

Always remeber: THE ENEMY TEAM IS EVERYWHERE, DOING EVERYTHING, AND THEY WANT YOU DEAD.

Now it would be okay to chase after this teemo IF:

1. You see all 4 other enemy champions on the map

2. Your laser is just about ready to fire

3. The other 4 enemy champions are dead

Other than that, DO NOT CHASE THE TEEMO.

I HIGHLY recommend playingMalzahar first, so you can get an idea of what being a squishy really is like. When someone is MIA, just get the **** back. That's all there is to it.

Runes

Runes are pretty self explanatory, Mpen reds, mp5/lvl yellows, AP/lvl blues, and Mpen Quints. It's a fairly cheap runeset. You can also run CDR blues or flat AP quints if you wish.

A lot of people wonder why I run Mpen quints. I run them because their damage scales better into lategame, where Lux can really shine. If you honestly feel that you need to play an early game Lux, rather than a lategame one, by all means run flat AP quints.

I don't adivise flat HP quints because you shouldn't be getting that close for anyone to do enough damage to you.

Masteries

Basic 9/0/21 caster setup. You can change greed mastery and the 1 point in experience for the buff mastery if you prefer it. Of course you can move ghost/teleport in exchange for the point in flash if you don't like flash.

Items

REMEMBER YOU CAN BUY POTIONSDURING ANYTIME IN THIS BUILD TO MAXIMIZE YOUR FARM POTENTIAL.

First you want to start off with a doran's ring. This should help you with early game mana problems (yay clarity and mp5 runes), and give you a bit of AP to work with.
Next you'll want to buy lucid boots. Get your skills a bit of cooldown. Other boots work fine too but I wouldn't recommend any others, lucid boots provide you with the CDR needed to reach a 24 second laser.

Now that you've got your CDR, it's time for a bit of damage. Farm up those creep waves and by adeathcap, yes, that's right, we're rushing a deathcap. It'll give you the burst you need mid game, and continue to support you late game. There is no reason to not rush this item on Lux.

By now, you'll be having mana problems, and want a bit more CDR, so buy aMorello's for the awesome reduction, AP, and mana regen.
Archangels is next for more AP and mana regen. ********THIS CAN BE REPLACED WITH VOID STAFFIF YOUR ENEMY IS STACKING MRESIST THIS IS IMPORTANT*******

Rylai's for just a tad bit of tankiness and it's slow effect. (The AP is nice too)

And last sell your doran's ring for anotherArchangel's for the AP and Mana Pool.

Why I don't build Lich Bane on Lux:

Lich Bane is a really interesting item, but it only really helps 50% of the time. It will take you a few delayed seconds to proc lich bane if you wanna make a nice laser nuke to take out the enemy, as opposed to with just a flat deathcap, which requires almost 0 delay to fire at an enemy. Lich bane also only adds to your physical attacks. If you are that close to an enemy to autoattack, without your combo, you are probably in your danger zone.
I've seen many Lux players dive for that one last autoattack with Lich Bane, only to get faceraped.

Skill Sequence

Pretty self explanatory. Feel free to take a point in barrier early if you're against someone that likes to poke a lot, to stop the pokes so much.

Why to get E FIRST:

A lot of Lux players I see put their first point into Q. Let me tell you why this is bad, even though I prioritize Q over E after level 1:

1. Lux's E allows for bush scouting

2. It helps nuke level 1 creep waves

3. It has the second longest range of any early game skills (the first being Caitlyn's piltover peacemaker)

4. It extends OUTSIDE of the zone that the game actually shows.

5. DID I MENTION IT CAN SCOUT?

Summoner Spells

I preferFlash andClarity.

Clarity for mana problems, flash for her escape.

If you preferghost you can run that, but just remember any mild CC will screw you over. Other cool options areclairvoyance, teleport, andignite [you really shouldn't use this, it requires you to get far too close] (only for mundo, lol) MaybeCleanse if you're that scared of CC, but you should NEVER be in the middle of the fray to get CC'ed.

Unique Skills

Alright Lux has A LOT of utility, especially zone control. If you're laning against squishies, feel free to place your E in front of them to hinder their exp gain and farm.

You can kite even TURRETS with your E, learn how to make it extend past the edge of what is shown in the skill preview.

Remember that people like to recall in bushes. Use this to your advantage. If your middle was just ganked by a twitch, and he went into the top brush, chances are he's recalling there. SNIPE HIM DOWN. Prediction is key with Lux and will get you EXTREMELY far.

You can fire Q behind you to escape chasing enemies.

Your W can protect you from potentially fatal ignites and DoT.

The Basic combo is E(You can possibly fit an auto attack right here)Q(or here)R(Auto attack here is crucial)

Since your Ult is only 24 seconds after Morello's (or should be close), remember you can fire at the beginning of teamfights when the enmy team is clumped together, and then once more at the end when they're all low on health. It is better to fire your laser at 4 half health champs than the 1 champ who is killable if a teamfight is going on.

If someone is running along a wall, fire your ult slightly to the outside of the wall in order to trap them between the wall and your ult. For example, if rammus is running near a wall to his left, fire your beam slightly to the right of the wall to pinch rammus in.

Lanes

Lux can work well as a substitute mid, if you have no one else to go there.

DO NOT demand mid if you have a Corki/Malz/Kassadin/Vlad/Teemo/Karthus/Anivia/Ryze/Sivir/Veigar on your team. In my honest opinion, these characters are the best characters in the middle in the current metagame and need the farm from the center much more than you do.

Do NOT let a Katarina go mid over you. Never. Ever. You can do so much more than her.

These champs are on the same level as you and either one of you can go in the center lane: Annie, Ashe, Ezreal, Gangplank, Heimerdinger, Kennen, LeBlanc, Miss Fortune, Morgana, Nidalee, Teemo, Twisted Fate

If you feel as if a Midwick, Cassiopeia, MidXin, or Pantheon request the middle, and you trust them, by all means let them go mid.

If you must side lane, try not to deny your partner of too much farm, lest you'll feel it later when teamfight time comes and your teammate begins to feed.

Lux really shines at solo top. It's all of the farm of the middle lane, with half of the pressure. You should be able to safely kite 2v1 as Lux with your long zones and heavy skills. I recommend buying potions when you go back to base if you have a 2v1 lane. You're going to need it. Potions are preferably bought in a 4:1 ratio for me, 4 mana, 1 health, etc.

Lux Formalities

Remember that just by playing Lux you are stereotyping players of characters in League.

By playing Lux, you are held in high regard for:

1. being polite

2. Apologizing frequently if wrong

3. Not kill stealing

4. Shielding like a total bro(sis)

5. ALWAYS saying GG after the enemy has said it first if you are the victor (it's out of respect)

Just remember that if someone really pisses you off whilst playing Lux, you can /ignore "their name" (without the quotes) in game to keep your cool.

Summary

That's about it for Lux, just practice your skillshots and you should be fine. Remeber to stay in the back and when someone is MIA don't push too hard. Play passive, farm, and the enemy team will be hearing legendary every view seconds with your name across the screen.
