There is about no learning effect in terms of building a char, if you just follow a guide. It's fine to have a setup to work with, and to learn the handling of the char.
How to build it, how to maximize it's effectiveness, or for rising awareness of benefits and detriments it has no use at all.
Therefore I think about bringing out a new concept (I guess it will be posted as guides as well, as more ppl watch this site than the forums), discussing only the effects of game mechanics, items, synergies, etc.
Is there any chance, that you'd find time to chip in ;)?
But most important things first: Being a crafter isnt a bad thing, holy ghost its the best thing that could happen to you. I rather meant to say "Sorry dude, I hate to tell you, as I know you're a crafter as well".
I'm pretty sure this build will work (espc. against DPS chars), I'm just not getting tired of telling people that they mostly shouldnt get a void staff ;).
(Yepp, I actually have to work over my Karthus Guide for that reason...)
And tell me, why is being a crafter a bad thing?
a) 55% MagPen of 30 base MR is only 16,5 reduction to chars without any MR.
Taking an abyssal scepter, i.e., would already grant you 20 reduction.
b) It grants you no advantage besides the 70 AP - as you are calling your build a tank build, you might want to take items like rylais (for the HP) or abyssal scepter (for the 57 MR) into consideration. Especially abyssals 57 MR will synergize with your randuins as well.
c) The breaking point for void staff is, where 45% of enemies MR is a value lower to 70,45% of his MR-20. Taking the following values (quints and marks are MagPen in this calculation, for it increases your dmg output WAY more than armor runes);
30 = ~7 with abyssal / 13,5 with void staff
50 = 21,14 / 22,5
75 = 38,75 / 33,75
100 = 56,36 / 45
150 = 91,59 / 67,5
As you can see, a mentionable difference is given at 150 MR upwards (where the difference is 47% reduction (abyssal) to 40% reduction (void staff).
And even for that 7% you shouldnt let your own MR go.
Even worse: With your build, your SS will deal (270 + .6 * 70) = 320 dmg. Even IF your enemy HAD (not likely for most chars) 150 MR, it would mean a difference in total numbers of 22,4dmg per SS.
Sorry, but that is way behind this chars potential.
One thing that I do that most dont, is I build many things at once... Ill have plenty of small armor items at one time. That gives me plenty of armor, just not the bigger items.
I do get what you are saying though.
