Which is exactly why it is included in the alternate build. Not sure what reasoning there was for a downvote.

Randuin's is so important for Malphite. Unstoppable Force + Ground Slam + Randuin's slow is such an evil combo. I think that is a MUST HAVE with Malphite. It can win you teamfights if the combo is well performed.

I've been experimenting recently with an alternate build as well, using Randuin's Omen as a third item, followed by a Sunfire Cape.

You get a lot more armor, some decent HP/5, more CD Redux, and the fun use ability.

The only time it would not work is when you need to nab up Magic Resist asap, because of a caster heavy enemy team.

Berry berry nice. I'm all for the care and feeding of our endangered tanks (or anti-carries).

Most physical dps aren't going to target Malph first in teamfights either. Thornmail is much nicer on more squishy champs.

I have used a Thornmail in the past, but it is very situational. I typically take the added health bonus from a Sunfire+AoE Dmg, unless there is a serious amount of Physical DPS on the enemy team.

So yea, while I am totally not against the Thornmail, it just seems that running into threatening physical carries stacked on one team isn't the norm.
